Subject: minor turned major rebulid Question: hi wiz. just had the engine rebuilt and now have a ktr fast road cam, gas flowed head and manifolds, uprated bb head gasket set, in-car adjustable boost,k&n panel filter, front mount intercooler, re-jeted carb 130 main 90 corrector jets,s/s exhaust system but a standard turbo!!! 1) whats boost would i need to run to get near 200 bhp and what other mods would i need to do? rough guess will do. 2) also if i turned the boost down how low can i safely go without over fueling the engine. 3) Answer: You need to have at least 20psi to run 200bhp so you will need a bigger turbo to do this for more than a few seconds before the standard turbo dies. You could do it with just a bigger turbo and suitable fuelling. I would say that you will overfuel from about 15psi downwards with a 130 main but it is just a guess. |

Subject: Wet Carpet Question: Hi i have a wet driver foot well basically near the seat and behind the driver in the back in the foot well, thing is no of the surroundin carpet is wet just in those areas any ideas what it could be or comin from as none ofthe door seals or anything are wet when i get in the car, also i dont think its the heater matrix as the backs wet and the front and back wet patches arent joined as under the seat is dry. Any ideas Thanks Answer: It could be water running down the inside of the doors and out under the plastic trim. Try sealing the base of the front window with duct tape and cover it in grease to repel the water and see if it improves. |

Subject: Rough running Question: Dear Wiz, In the mornings when I start the car from cold, if it has been raining the night before it seems very juddery. I do have an evo 6 bonnet vent so could it be water getting into the carb?, overfueling? or a temp sensor problem? When the car has warmed it up it seems to be fine. Any ideas? Cheers, BAD GT Answer: Sounds more like water on the dizzy cap, leads and plugs causing problems. |

Subject: in car boost Question: k tec supply a replacement main jet but no air correcter. for 15-16psi do i need to change the air correcter jet to .90, and if so why dont they supply them? cheers conrad Answer: You do not need it unless the car is going weak at high rpm/boost. A rolling road will tell you for deffinate but a lack of power at higher revs can also be an indicator. |

Subject: IN car boost Question: It has probably been asked before, but can you yell me the safest way to conect my in car adjustable boosty valve into my car? it is a 3-way one. Also is there any way of limiting the the maximum boost as the knob can fully un-screw!!!!! Thanks Andy Answer: Your best bet is to get a two way valve as well and fit that in car. Fit the three way valve inline in the front actuator pipe and use the third outlet to feed the in car knob. Set the max boost with the under bonnet three way and usable boost with the in car. |

Subject: tuning mods Question: hi. i'm building an engine to a 200+ bhp spec and could do with some advice. i was reading about the cup modification, how does this affect performance and reliability?? also i saw an article about fitting a radiator from a R5 diesel, in which you said you would need a separate oil cooler, i already have a 19 row remote cooler in the bumper so would it be ok to fit this kind of rad or am i better off getting hold of a copper core rad. cheers Answer: The cup mod has no proven info for performance or reliability but ""seems"" to bring boost in faster and more stable than the full pipework. I think it just tidies up all the area. The diesel rad has no oil cooler built in so is a good choice if you already have the seperate cooler. |

Subject: 5th gear Question: hi wiz recently ive lost the use of 5th gear it started pushing itself out now its gone completley is this a common fault? (engine mounts /gear linkage/cluth spot on) also do you know if i can repaired it in situ as the end casing is removable ? and what do you think its most likely to be ?ie selector Answer: If the gearbox mount is ok then i would suspect it was bearing. You can access 5th gear by removing the end casing of the gearbox to check its condition. |

Subject: wots that... Question: Hi Wizz What is the metal pipe attached to the back of the turbo elbow that loops back round onto the 'back' actuator port. Is it neccessary and would i benefit in anyway by blocking it off, if i can, and re-routing the existing pipework ? Answer: This is part of the boost compensation circuit. Removal of it is part of the ""Cup"" mod. Check the boards for more details on this. |

Subject: Difference in brakes Question: Hi wiz I'm about to get a set of rear brake discs and pads - but the rears always seem to be more expensive. I'm thinking of swapping the good fronts to the back and then buying the cheaper front discs to replace it. Do you think there will be a problem with this and whats the difference in the front/rear brake discs. Cheers Answer: Rear discs have the wheel bearing pressed into them and are not compatible with the fronts. Most people supply the rears ready to fit with the bearing already in it and this brings the price up. Also they wear less and are therefore more expensive to manufacture due to lesser demand. |

Cud this be the water seal on the turbo? already fitted new head gasket lst week wen putting new bottom end an cylinder head in. so dont think it cud be them?!! if it is the seal is it a specialist job or cud i do it my self? an is it costly if needed 2 go 2 a specialists?
