Subject: Carb spec Question: Evening Wizard. Right spec of my motor is, Group A HG & HT Bolts Doule cap intercooler/Ally Rad K-tec stage 1 fuel pump/New std fp reg Group A clutch/lb flywheel Cup boost mod Ally lobster Stage 3 T25&larger elbow Full samco's Innovate wideband Mint STD carb Sidey zorst few other bits/bobs So Based on the above what would be a suitable combination "jets" wise to fuel for a safe/solid 20psi? As always cheers(and for the last one:-))in advance wizard . Answer: okay so you have standard engine, except for a t25 turbo.... i'd always advise getting an AFR meter - like the ones sold here : http://www.efi-parts.co.uk/index.php?categoryID=89 then you might wanna look at enlarging the 2nd stage enricher out to a 1.2mm, maybe a 1.3mm and reducing the air corrector to a 1mm. then gradualy up the boost and keep an eye on the AFR at wide open throttle in 4th. let me know how you get on.... |

Subject: Hunting on idle Question: My car seems to be hunting a lot on idle,iv truer adjusting mixture screw but it changes nothing Thanks Answer: i bet you have an airleak, at the carb base somewhere. the other scenario is that you've snapped the bottom of the mixture screw off in the carb base and its now lean and annot be adjusted. - have u also checked that the mixture screw has a black o ring on it? |

Subject: B&m shifter Question: Alrite mate just fitted a b&m shifter and I can't get reverse or second when moving but can when car stationary any ideas what I've done wrong Answer: sounds like you need to adjust the pinch bolt under the car, so you can get more movement of the lever. it can be abit of a pain, especially when you start losing 5th gear and gain 1st and reverse, then move it too much the other way and lose 5th! |

Subject: TDC Sensor? Question: I have read a few previous Q & A's and I think I may need to fit a new TDC sensor to my car after a spirited drive today. In first and second car seems to boost and pull fine, in third, fourth and fifth there is now intermittent misfires and lack of boost. I have stripped off the AEI and am wondering where and how to fit a new TDC sensor? It carn't be any of the hosing can it if the car is boosting fine in first and second? Answer: im not 100% on the tdc sensor being the problem. in 3rd gear and above the car spends more time 'on boost', this loads the engine more. if you had a boost leak, then this could cause misfiring. as could an overly large intercooler? - try covering the intercooler with cardboard first. its easy to do and test. when did you last change the plugs, leads, rotor arm and cap, or even the fuel filter? |

Subject: Engine will not idle when cold Question: Hi, I believe the problem with my car lies in the coolant temp sensor (not to be confused with the coolant temp sender) and the ecu that controls the engine, where can I source those parts ? . The car will run fine once it warms up but does have a tendency to foul the plugs now and again and comes to a spluttering stop. The engine is in excellent condition mechanicly. Mark Answer: now, knowing what renault are like, id be looking at the alpine v6 turbo or even the saffrane bi-turbo v6. i'd put money on renault themselves being able to get them still. or even on the renault alpine owners club. |

Thanks in advance Answer: i bet you have a boost leak. causing the car to overfuel on boost. - check all your boost hoses first! |

Subject: std turbo psi Question: cheer wiz but i think i will stay with my std turbo right wot max psi or power can a std turbo take and the best way to do this i have a frout mount intercooler old cooler std carb but do have 3 size jets a 1.25 1.3 1.4 in car boost controller and a afr kit and i have all ready dun the cup mod and have a 2 and a harf exh sistem Answer: 16/17psi is about the max you want to go. Anything more than that, and the standard T2 will be wheezing, plus blowing nothing more than hot(ter) air. Boost can be raised by fitting a bleed valve, or doing it the proper way by adjusting the pre-load on the actuator (arm). As for jet sizes, you'll have to play around, but you're looking for an afr of around high 11's-mid 12's when on full boost, or in other words, as lean as you can go without inducing detonation. |

Subject: slack accelerator cable Question: So the Accelerator cable has just gone slack on the phase 2 after a spirited drive, Carb end looks fine It still revs but isn't a sharp response. its like there is too much cable.... are they easy to stretch?! or could it have come away from a clip or something? help wiz Answer: you need to undo the cable clamp, and move the cable, so that the outer sheath pulls back and the centre cable reveals itself. then reclamp it. - its really easy for the cable outer to slip as i bet you have a plastic outer cable. you really need the original style metal spring style outer, as they dont crush. |

Subject: Oil catch tank Question: Hi My track GTT has currently got the standard catch tank breather system besides the pipe to the "turbo inlet" section has been removed and a small breather filter added. I have problems with the breather system blowing oil out of the breather filter I have fitted, It used to blow out the dip stick but its now held in with a spring mod. The engine runs 21psi covered 6k and is mechanically sound. I have purchased a catch tank off E bay (in the post) and before it arrives I wondered if you could help me with the plumbing of a modified breather system please? Many thanks Adam Answer: block off the manifold feed to the breather system. i.e plug the one way valve. then the pipe from the top of the breather pot - plumb that into your catch tank. expect all sorts of snot to come out of it. |

Subject: Rear bias valve removal and servo options. Question: Hi Wiz Is it true that I can remove the standard rear "load" bias valve with no issues as I have a big brake conversion on the front? Also I need a new brake servo, is it true that an AX GT servo can be fitted in order to get less assistance and more pedal feel? Thanks again Adam Answer: id say thats a load of crap. - you could remove it and replace it with manual bias valve. - i think demon tweeks used to sell them. you always need more braking to the front.... i know the ax master cylinders are the same - i.e bosch 19mm ones. not sure about the servo though - it wouldnt surprise me if it was! |

Subject: 99 problems and my carb is one Question: Right, im having trouble with my car not ideling very well. Its a recon carb unit from gt turbo spares that ive used for about 1k. Adjusting the mixture screw has no effect on the the fueling which seems to be very rich, ive looked into the carb on idle and cant see any leaking fuel. I have changed the main and ac jets which has made it a bit better but still very lumpy. Would unscrewing the idle jet (brass screw) have a effect? And is there anything else you could sudgest? Thanks Adeel Answer: check the mixture screw has a black o ring halfway along it. also check that the tip of the mixture screw aint snapped off in the carb base. also check the idle jet aint got crap stuck in it. |

Subject: 99 problems and my carb is one PART 2 Question: Right checked the mixture screw and it was ok but i replaced it with a new one just in case. And the idel jet is clear its slightly better but still very lumpy.... Answer: have you got the AFR meter on there yet? i bet its running really lean.... (or if you take the top off the carb, have a look down the venturi to see if its dripping fuel onto the top of the carb plate whilst its idling....that causes a crap idle too) |

Subject: Question: No the opposite, running very rich. I have checked the venturi and no dripping? And no afr gauge funds do not allow just yet!! Answer: okay, you need to check what size the idle jet is. - it should be a 44 or 45. - make sure the end hasnt been bored out to a 50 though. make sure you have the correct sized mixture screw too, ive see some that are short - which are effectively not leaning the mixture off when you screw them in. |

Subject: Carb jets and tuning Question: Hi I've been away from the Whats the score with tuning carbs for a while and have a few questions please as I have myself in a bit of a mess with a pile of carbs in bits! :( The two enrichment jets: The removable (one that is the same style as the air correction jet), what size should this be standard? is this ever changed for tuning? The other fixed bush/jet, what size is standard and have you any idea what a good size to start with would be for 21 psi as I hear this is the jet with the new way of thinking to drill out? And finally after the drilling of this fixed jet, is it normal then to run a standard main 120 jet? Many thanks Adam Answer: buy an afr meter first. enrichment is 100 standard. if you are running a small turbo with higher boost you can put a slightly larger jet in there if you want. - but it will be rich as it comes on boost. bigger turbos need it to be left alone. the fixed bush is also a 100 - most seem to drill it out to 1.2 or 1.3mm. id also reduce the boost abit (less than 21psi - try 18 to go on with) - and use the afr meter and some det cans! you may have to up the main jet slightly or even drop the air corrector down from a 125 to a 100.... |

Subject: Plumbing in car boost Question: Hi wiz putting in a in car boost controller I have the cup mod and need to no wot size tubing to use on it going to be running 14 psi +cheers Answer: use 3mm ID bore tubing from the carb top to the actuator port. - then stick a T piece into it and run a 5mm ID pipe to the centre port of the in car boost. you may have to put a small jet in the pipe next to the carb top though ;) |

Subject: turbo cooling Question: Hi wiz i don t have a carb my is on efi Answer: do you still have water pipes to your inlet manifold? if so, connect the turbo pipe to the one closest to the turbo. - if not, then you will have to conect the turbo water pipe to the waterpump port that hides behind the oil seperator pot - pointing upwards. |
