Subject: ZEX dry nitrous kit

Question:
Any ideea how to mount one ? I have the instructions but ....the throttle position sensor ???? vacuum at fuel pressure regulator ??? I think i have some problems . Can you help me ?

Answer:
we dont have a throttle position sensor, you would have to make a throttle switch that opened on full throttle, cos thats when the NOS is supposed to be injected.
vacuum at fuel pressure reg???- i assume they mean the fuel pressure that the fuel pressure reg is controlling. if that is the case thene you need the T into the fuel line into the carburetter. - you aint really made this bit too clear- is it reading fuel or air?

Subject: gearbox and loom

hi i was wondering if there was a rear wheel drive gearbox the will bolt upto a c1j engine, also what is the minimum u can get away on the loom ie just running dnt need lights as doing summot different, chears

Answer:
this has been asked far too many times before, the closest you are gonna get is either the volvo 340, or the kangoo trekker (4x4). not really worth the hassle?
loom?- you need the charging circuit for the alternator-battery. you need a +ve and -ve for the aei. you also need a feed to the fuel pump.

Subject: Hot start problem

Question:
if i take my car for a drive say to a petrol station, i turn it off, pay for fuel, go to start the car, it starts but about 10secs later it cars out. Does this about 3times then wont start?

check your fuel pump relay is ok....

Subject: fan and surrounding s**t

Question:
the temp light comes on on the dashboard even when the guage is not all the way up? i have put a new thermosts in and temp switch with all new wires etc and also have a fan override inside my car. which leads me to my second question i cant figure out why the fan wont work on its own? could it be a problem with me have the switch wired in? or would that not effect it? and finally where can i get a pic of where my temp guage should sit because the dials have been changed and it seems a bit high now? sorry about all the questions but i am baffled????

Answer:
wire the rad fan yourself, renault has notoriously s*** wiring in this dept!!
alt +ve - rad fan switch
red fan switch - +ve of rad fan
-ve of rad fan - earth.

sorted

the temp gauge should read just under the 60° position (the third mark including the horizontal baseline), the fan should then cool the car down until 1/2 way mark.

Subject: ZEX Nitrous 2

I don't know if I am alowed to send links . http://www.zex.com/Base/Instructions/ZEX109.pdf -Page 7 - step 6 . This operation I don't quite get. The point of it. I have vacuum in my maniford but not at my fuel pressure regulator. Would it be wise that instead of mounting the hose at the maniford to mount it at the intake ? I think the point is to sense what the fuel presure regulator is senseing and whan you hit on nitro to send a complementar pressure at the regulator , to be opened more and give more fuel to the carb (for the mixture) . Sorry if my english writting is bad. frown

hmmm, it is confusing. i would personally call the number on the bottom of the pdf file and ask them what to do, as the fuel pressure regulator we have on our cars only sees boost pressure - not vacuum, frown

hi wiz please help at my end,i bought a 2nd r3 with 16k of mods so it is seriously modded,it as got a gt tuning he5li turbo which was fecked when i bought it so has it reconditioned for a fair sum which caused the problem of the car smoking.what it is now is that i have not driven the car at all its been on my drive for a couple of month because of bits that ive been doing to it so turbo isnt even run in really (not done any mileage) but has been sat there ticking over fine a numerous ocations letting engine run.i came to the car today and started it up to let it run for a while to keep batt toped up and after a short while the smoke started coming out again and then went i revved it a little so turbo would run and smoke come out again would you say turbo has gone again? or do you think i should just give up and get rid lol thanks very much paul

Answer:
you really need to check what oil pressure you have, dont forget is the turbo was fecked before then there will be oil in the exhaust, which will require a good run to remove/burn off....

Subject: fuel

Question:
hi the other day when driving along car came to a stop tryed to get it going fuel was not getting in2 the carb as put fuel in the top and it started is there fuel relays or a fuse that has gone maybe?

Answer:
passenger side footwell, usually hanging off the top right hand side of the relay bank, which is to the right of the fuse box. look for a big black and grey 6 pin relay.

Subject: WONT START, THEN WILL

Question:
Ok Wizard, i am getting frustrated with the GT Turbo after owning it for 7 years it has recently had a mind of its own. Ok when the car starts it starts first time and it goes not problems.

However yesterday like it usually does it would not start no turning whatsover no turning nothing the car had not been driven since the night before. I must say it was quite a hot day howeve the bonnet was cool, anyway i waited until the evening until the weather cooled down and it fired up 1st time as if nothing was wrong...now my misses uses the car and it has happened to her a couple of times with the little 1 in the car....can this be sorted???

I dont seem to understand???

Its as if the car is totally dead howeve after turning the ingition it just fires up...and my misses was stranded and waited a while then it fired up???

Is there anything i can check, i have changd starter motor and it has a heat shield but i cannot figure it out.

I have thought of taking it to an electrician however they say they can only look at it if it happens there and then.

Answer:
check the large connector under the expansion bottle. if this is corroded then this will cause major hassle. also suspect maybe the ignition wiring maybe faulty?

Subject: fuel pump relay

Question:
Morning, i was pretty sure that the reason my car had'nt been starting was a dodgy fuel pump relay. But i can still bump it when it's playing up. Does this rule out the fuel pump relay as the fault ?

does the car turn over? have you pulled the fuel line off the carb and put it into a bucket and turned the car over? have you check that there is a spark- preferably well away from the bucket of fuel.... wink

hi wiz doesnt matter about my last question sorted it out wi gt tuning they thing it was becasue my oil was too thin and it was going thinner with hot weather.tried it when it was cooler at night and all seems ok thank god,they told me have got to change my oil for some thicker stuff has the full synthetic i put in was too thin thanks anyway yours paul

hi wiz, soz to ask as i know uve been asked loads b4, 12.9 head bolts, what extra torque setting can be used??

Answer:
12.9's ean they can take the extra torque, but if you start over tightening the head you can feck your head and block!!!- they can warp!!! haynes says 60Nm, i use 70-75Nm.

Subject: fuel pump relay pt. 2

Hello again, yeah it turns over as normal. The first thing i checked for was fuel comin through, so when there was none i thought either fuel pump relay or the pump or filter. But there's no power going to the pump ( which is only a few months old as is the filter. ) So i thought the only other thing would be the relay. Also it only seems to play up when i leave it for about half an hour, any less and it's fine and if its left for 8 hours while im at work then its also fine. I never checked for a spark when i found no fuel coming through but i dont understand how if there's no fuel comin through then how can i still bump it ? Sorry for the jackanory and thanks.

Answer:
the relay next to the aei in the scuttle tray controls the spark, without the aei seeing the timing sensor then there is no power to the fuel pump relay....

Subject: Sump Oil pipe

hello there wizard. I got a problem with my R5 in the sense that the oil pipe that goes on to the bottom of the sump has split. And for some reason im havin trouble in finding the pipe. Any suggestions, would it be better gettin it from the main dealer ?.

the turbo oil return pipe?
use a 17979 from gsf and cut it in two....

ok switched my wipers on the other day cos it was pi**ing it down,then the rain let up a bit so switched to the intermitent mode,my wipers moved about 2 inches an then stopped,quickly switched to constent an they were ok,checked fuse,could it be the relay,where can i find that,is it near the fuel pump relay?,thanks

speedo not always works as per most fives!!,and i always check the air box bracket connection,an it works fine,it always seems to be here that there is a problem,can i just cut the plug off altogether an solder/join the speedo wire up an heatshrink it,would that be ok?

Subject: cant get the fluid to caliper

Question:
hi wiz, my cars in for an m.o.t and the garage arnt happy with the travel on the pedal.they tried bleeding the brakes(after freeing off the caliper and adjusting the handbrake)and they cant get it to bleed.the mechanic says that he cant get the fluid to the front caliper, all the flexi hoses have bn changed, but they cant get it to bleed.
any help would be really appreciated as my bill gets bigger and bigger the more time thats spent on it!

Answer:
well, if they cant get any fluid to the front caliper, then i would hazard a guess and say that you may need to flush the brake pipe out, and maybe renew the master cylinder.

all jb3's can fit. but only gt turbos and volvo 480 turbos have the electronic speedo.

when iam sitting still from fist start up the temp guage doesnt really move but start getting speed up to around 50mph the temp trys to go off the scale but never been to the very top line theres no air locks, thermostate , fan switch is fine the only thing i can think of is the water pump plz help many thanks

check that you aint blow the gasket or that the thermostat aint stuck shut...

a t25/t25 or t28/t25 turbo, a bigger bore exhaust, an uprated cam, 20psi and an allot intercooler. also need an uprated fuel pump and uprated clutch.

Subject: Phase 1 Baffled Sump

I know these are quite hard to find, but if i do find one, Is there any adjustments that have to be done to it before i fit it to my phase 2 or can i just do a straight swop?

Answer:
yes, you wont find a ph1 baffled sump, what you will get is a r11 or r9 baffled sump, which has the oil return from the turbo too far over and the wrong size hole. it may not have a breather connection either.

Subject: weak starter

went to start my car from cold yesterday and it wudn't have it! cranked over fast and fuels getting through to the carb. Left it for an hour and tryed again and it started!!! any ideas wat mite be about to brake on my car? plugs and leads are year and half old and the coil is over 15 years old. Should i replace them as i dont want to break down somewhere?

I HAVE RECENTLY DONE THE HEAD GASKET ON MY 5 BUT THE LIGHT ON THE TEMP GAUGE WONT GO OUT. THE GAUGE WORKS FINE OTHER THAN THIS AND THE CAR DOES NOT OVERHEAT. AN ANYBODY HELP ME AS I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ELECTRICS

try an autoelectrician.having said that, there are only two wires to the water temp sensor, so i would take a wild guess and say that its earthing out somewhere!!!

you really need to speak to the webmaster. it could well be your computer though... what firewall progs are you running?
