Subject: what set up?

Question:
hi wizz am looking to upgrade my susspension at the moment ive only got lowering springs on.am wanting a good set.so whats best?coilovers?dampers?gonna use it for fast road only.
ps who are u?

Answer:
Koni's all round is a good choice, but don't go too mad on the drop. -35mm is enough for the front, and adjust the rears (torsion bar) accordingly.

New set of bushes and balljoints etc would help improve the handling as well.

PS, it's on a need to know basis...and you don't need to know big grin

Subject: Turbo 2 Best location for Spa boost sensor?

Question:
Hi Wizard, Hope you can answer this with it been a Turbo 2 ;-) Whats the best location for a SPA Boost sensor?

Copy of the message i put n the board;
Just bought a SPA Boost/water temp gauge for the T2, Any ideas on the best posistion/location for the sensor?
In the manual its suggesting the inlet manifold as the ideal location for boost and vacum? with the T2 having four seperate inlets would it give a accurate reading tapping into one? Other option in the manual is the Turbo hoses?
The sensor as a 1/8"" BSP thread.

Help!!!:-)

Steve

Answer:
ok, im slightly confused. does the sensor measure water temp?- if so put it in the plate at the end of the head next to the standard one. if the sensor measures boost pressure then put it in the intercooler, the same as the standard one..... (opposite the port closest to the bulkhead in a standard car)

Subject: BAILEY DUMP VALVE OR NOT??

Question:
Hello Wiz,how are you?ive got a question for you and like your opinion. Ive heard numerous people say bailey dvs are not suitable for R5s.some people say they actually dump pressure when accelerating/boosting.i have a bailey piston type on my 5 and happily running 22psi constantly for over 6months now with no trouble,my aftermarket boost gauge reads 22psi with no fluctuation at all,and all seems fine. have you heard off this problem happening and would it be simply because the spring in the dv was worn or not strong enough to cope with the boost pressure??i hope im not losing boost thats all,i would have thought id notice,i cant hear any leaks through dv,and ive a constant 22psi when boosting.thanks for your time.

Answer:
ok, suck the vac pipe to the dumpvalve, does it suck the valve open, till you cant suck no more? if not then the seals are fecked, and its leaking boost away from you aei, which will cause the car to over advance and/or generally fu ck up.
ive seen a few get that dry that the valve never shuts!!!

Subject: turbo heatshield

Question:
recently put a chrome/stainless heat shield on and its amplifying the engine noise quite a lot. thought about putting a rubber washer or something similar where it bolts to the bracket on the engine but this will probably melt. any ideas to help stop this unwanted noise?? what about some sort of exhaust gasket and cutting it to fit?

Answer:
stop it rattling against the turbo first. you could put a fibre washer under the thing i suppose, but i bet it dont help.

Subject: piston/conrod

Question:
without damaging the piston how would you get the conrod off, the conrod is knacked so doesnt matter what happens to it.cheers cupcake.

Answer:
you cant do it. as soon as you press the gudgeon pin out of the conrod the piston gets it in the neck. only way i could possibly think of is an oxy acetylene torch and heat the top of the conrod up and hope that you can easily knock it out...

Subject: DIY SIDE EXIT

Question:
was thinking about making my own side exit, how do i determine what sound its goin to make?,how loud/silencing/legal limit etc?,currently have a scorpion but would like something with a bit more bite if you get the idea,or do i get a sidewinder system, which i have been told about, but not actually heard in myself on a 5 turbo?,thanks

Answer:
any sideexit is going to be loud. as long as it has a box in it i think you should be ok as the turbo acts as a muffler when driving normally....
