Question:
hi mate read the question about it just wondering is the aqua stealth kit hard to fit also will it work well with a charge cooler and where would i stick the nosle anywhere on the hard pipe? im going to be running 25psi will this help cheers. one more mate is the campus head the same as a gtt and is it ok to use then

Answer:
campus head is different to gtt one. the aquastealth kit aint hard to fit. you will need to find space for the pump though...
stick the jet on the outlet of the charge cooler, so the water spray has more distance to travel and absorb heat, before it gets to the carb!

Subject: exhaust manifold gasket

Question:
Evening Wiz,

just a quick one, got a head gasket set, the inlet/exhaust manifold gasket has a little steel type plate, does that face the head or the manifold?

Cheers mate!!

Answer:
some say the metal faces the head as the fibre takes out the imperfections in the manifold cast surface. others say metal part goes next to the manifold for heat dissipation!!!
the choice is yours!

Subject: HELP PLEASE

Question:
Hi Wiz

Got a little problem,

got a Rover Tom cat turbo for my 5, and after bout 140 mile runing at 16-18 psi its now smoking,
when driving it seem ok, its when the oil pressure drops, eg slowing down, at taffic lights it then starts smoking blue smoke, and when reving from idle,

the turbo does have bout 1mm - 2 maybe in and out movement,

and the car was fine with the t2 on it,
so im thinking its the turbo causing this,
AM I RIGHT, or can it be somthing else,

the car is ruing wel, and theres no water in oil, oil in water,

THANKS

Answer:
the turbo is fecked.
one big problem with fitting the standard tomcat turbo, is that there is no 360° thrust washer, and the turbo is designed for 13psi max.... and no doubt you got it 2nd hand, which in most cases means its bolloxed!

Subject: head

Question:
i know the campus head is thinner but is this the only reason not to use it its got about 72.2 left on it had a skimm to.

Answer:
A 72.2mm head is a tad on the skinny side, and will raise the c/r significantly.

The manifold stud pattern is different as well, hence you'll have grief lining up/tightening up the manifolds.

Easier to source a gtt head and use that - There's a few of them knocking about on Ebay at the mo if that helps.

Subject: Devil Strut Brace

Question:
Dear Wiz.

I have finally got hold of a lovely devil strut brace, spent the majority of yesterday polishing it up resulting my sweating like a peado in a nursery.... anyway, came to fit it and the bonnet wont shut. As you can imagine I am less than impressed.

Question is wiz, are the GT turbo cup cars' bonnets different than the road cars and if they are the same how did they get them to fit?

Answer:
Firstly, lucky bastard! big grin

The Cup cars used to run with their bonnets slightly open (with the aid of bonnet pins, rather than using the OE bonnet-catch), hence the brace wouldn't be in the way of the bonnet.

What you'll probably find is it's the bonnet stay rod that's catching on the brace - You could temporarily remove the rod and see if the bonnet then shuts fully. Didn't Mart do this with his bonnet when he fitted his Devil brace?

You could also ask Dixy how he got his bonnet to shut.

Alternatively sell the brace to me and I'll worry about getting the bonnet to shut! big grin

Subject: boost gauge

Question:
got me boost gauge fitted nicely, (although i constantly re assess where I shud put it)...Now, how exactly do I get it lightin up? Got some leccy cable n clips to attach to back, but where on earth shud I send the wires to? i am a complete and utter novice. Oh, at the mo, the guage is right in corner, drivers side dash. Cheers big ears!

Answer:
One wire will go to a good earth, and the other wire will be scotch-blocked into the lighting cct of your dash; ie, it could be spliced into the wire(s) that go to the dimmer control.

Question:
When I turned right on Sunday there was a loud bang from the left side of my car. Now my neck hurts. Any idea what it might be?

Answer:
having seen the video andy, i would say it could have been worse. - you could have been banged in the rear by some overweight, dozy , welsh cow in a corsa instead.
At least you had fun doing it, all i got was a smashed rear bumper and a rear tailgate that dont squeek any more, when i drive down the road. eek

Subject: high temp

Question:
hi wiz, thanks for your help as i now have my engine running. some slight teething problrms. il try and go into as much detail as poss. the engine is running but hot. i dnt need a water inlet/ outlet for my turbo as it is a 360 degree thrust bearing garret t25. i poped to nobz gaff to copy his piping. he has done away with most of the pipes around the carb. including the one next to the temp snesor on the water pump. this is now were his water return is form his turbo. so i cut my feed pipe, i filled up the coolant like hayne says. now after running foe a while with the cap off i notice that steam is coming out of the bleed valves on the hoses, and i looked at the temp guage and it is v high. suggest to me it over heating. is the pipe that i cut to blame for this. the engine sound fine with a slight misfire which i put downt to a dizzy. but. i havent re torqued the head yet and i started it twice is this the problem? cheers agian so close to geting on the road
tom

Answer:
do not fill coolant up like haynes says.
clip the water return pipe to the expansion bottle. then fill it wil coolant, undo hoses then blow into the bottle. water should get forced out of the open nipples!! remember to close nipples whilst still blowing!!!

Subject: Which turbo?

Question:
Hey,

I'm in the process of moving my GTT engine into my Monaco. I'm going to buy an alloy intercooler and am looking to get between 180-200 bhp eventually. I will probably get the spider jobby and boost adjuster thing next. I'll then need a turbo. I'm willing to spend up to £600 on one. Originally i was going to get Ktec's £395 turbo but i've thought I may as well spend the extra 200 and then I've got the potential for more boost later. Can you recommend a turbo to me please?

Answer:
GT22r or 25r would be a good choice.

Subject: big intercooler VS charged cooler vs water injection

Question:
ok wiz,

over the years many people have said many things to me regaurding the above mentioned.

some say water injection is like having cool night air permenantly, and some people have said it is useless. what is you view on water injection....

also the same as above for a charge coolers

and many people have told me to just stick to a good large intercooler.

basicly the feeling you get on a cold winter night with moisture in the air is the feeling i want from my car always so water injection is the way to go??

Answer:
There's no conclusive answer I'm afraid, although water injection will help if you plan on running high boost levels and/or advancing the ignition.

Have a search of the boards, stick the kettle on, and enjoy reading the many 'chargecooler vs fmic' threads/debates there's been over the years! smile

Subject: crack in wastegate

Question:
ive bought a second hand stage 2 turbo and when it was delivered i noticed a crack inside wastegate will this affect the performance thanks ryan

Answer:
Depends how big the crack is? It's fairly normal for there to be a slight crack around the wastegate area, but if the crack goes right through the scroll it'll leak turbine drive gas.
