Subject: door pins

Question:
What can i do to make my door pins go all the way in when i push the button on my toad alarm it opens ok but thats it wont lock at all

Answer:
Grease up the solenoid, check you're getting a good 12v & earth to the solenoid, or replace the units theirself as they could be on their last legs.

Do the pins go down when you lock the doors via the switch on the centre console?

Subject: clutch

Question:
hi wiz,i have just had a paddle clutch fitted aswell as a gdi 50% lightened fly wheel the problem is when you put your foot down and the revs start rising it slips but only for about 500rpm then its fine any ideas

Answer:
It's not clamping properly, so either the release bearing is knackered, something's holding the clutch paddle slightly away from the flywheel, or perhaps you've got some fluid leaking onto the flywheel face?

Which clutch cover did you use?

Subject: Starter motor

Question:
Hi Wizard. On the starter motor there is a positve from the battery and a wire going to the alternator should these be touching when located on the starter motor. Because i am getting a nasty spark when fitting the negative on to the battery with the positve wire attached to the battery?

Answer:
Yep, the starter motor positive post acts as a junction for the two wires. Check the connection is correct at the alternator end (ie, you haven't connected the cable to the neg' terminal) and that the starter motor/pos'y terminal isn't touching the downpipe.

Subject: Sideskirt for TL

Question:
Hi !

I'm in hand of a Renault 5 TL 85 model. Which is, as you know, a none turbo model. This is the MK 2 version which pursuant to ktechracing is possible to mount sideskirt and arches.

I know that I need 5 sideskirt clips for each side to fit the skirt. But I don't know where to and how to mount the clips. Should I drill or rivet?? What should be the distance between the clips and how high they sould be??

The questions are a lot. Please help me out. Pictures, measures, other online guides would be great.

Thanks mate.

Answer:
they are on the upper part of the sill, the bit that is slightly proud of the rest of it. i would use self tapping screws- left sticking out of the sill, and maybe tack weld them on. as for how far apart they are i aint got the info to hand!- you may have to ask someone on the site who is refurbing theirs or selling a shell...

Subject: oil missing

Question:
its a new engine (was) since its had a uprated gasket since its pushin a t25 turbo i need to know what the best way out, its tappin real loud, stalls on idle now an then, an oils pisses out all over the manifold i think were do i go from here as im thinkin the engines no good

Answer:
do a compression check, to see if the rings/ valves/ headgasket is ok. they should all gove the same reading + - 10psi. you need a new rocker cover gasket, and make sure the rocker cover aint bowed out in the middle due to idiots over tightening the rocker cover bolts! this will definatly cause leaks over the manifolds! the tapping may only be the tappets needing adjusting.- does it get louder as you rev the car?- tapping can also be leaking exhaust manifold too wink

Subject: Snapped head bolt

Question:
I snapped an engine head bolt (uprated K-tec one) while tightening it. The whole top 3-4 inches of bolt have snapped off. In other words its deep in the block. whats the best way to get it out? Apparently a special pattern can be bored into the top of the remaining bolt and then a screwdriver can unscrew it? I'd rather not take the head off if I can help it...

Answer:
how deep in the block is it? you would have to take the whole engine out to get it spark eroded out i think. i dunno if a welder would be able to get that far inside...even with a stud attacher on it! maybe best to speak to an engineering company to see their possible thoughts on it.

Why wont my Renault 5 GT Turbo Start, I have no spark, I have changed the ECU, changed all the relays I have checked all the wiring and the timing sensor at the fly wheel to the ECU and there is still no spark, whats wrong??????

Subject: intercooler

Question:
Hello, will it benifit me to get a larger front mount intercooler than using a strapped and flowed standard size one? does it matter about the size?i've heard that its the thickness that matters as it affects the air flow so if thats true, whats the max thickness i should go for and max of the other sizes,or will a water spray kit do the job as good, thanks for your time, Ben.

Answer:
get the front mount, it makes a large difference. it also depends on what boost you wanna run... if you are running less than 15psi, then whats the point? check these guys out for cheap front mounts.
http://www.thsparts.co.uk/
im not sure of the max thickness, but you wont have massive amounts of room on the front of a 5!
dont bother with the water spray on the cooler, as you will have to keep filling some pot up, and it may start the subframe rusting or summat stoopid like that!
water injection on the other hand is good if you are gonna run over 23psi!

try 10w 60 or 15w 50. these have better 'hot' characteristics than 10w40!
sounds like your oil pump pressure release valve is dodgy. you may need to replace the bottom part of your oil pump...

Subject: T28..big boy

Question:
Not a reference to myself of course..lol, just wondering , thinkin of gettin a t28 off a good fellow member, id like to turn boost up to 22-24psi , do ya think this unit would be a good candidate and will the lag be much more than that of my t25???, please shed some light wiz on my scrambled tiny brain ,matty.

Answer:
what is the exhaust A/R? - 0.49?? if so expect it to get full boost between 3.5 - 4.2k. it will be an ideal candidate for that much boost- just remember they are terrible at 15psi!!!

Subject: Correct pressure of cooling system.

Question:
Hi wiz,

I have just had my head re-skimmed with a new head gasket fitted and had a new top coolant hose fitted (R6001066589) and thermostat.

My questions are:-

1. Should it be fairly difficult to squeeze the top coolant hose when the car is running at ideal temp?

2. How easy should it to be to remove the cap from the water expansion bottle when running?

3. I have sometimes seen the coolant level near the min level on the water expansion tank and then when I can finally get the top off! it returns to normal level. I don't remember seeing this before in the 8 years I've had the car.

I can see the water re-circulating through the expansion tank but some times I notice a little dribble of coolant on the floor when I have used the car. Is this pressure build up?

There is no mayo or water in the expansion tank or main engine.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:
change your expansion bottle cap, sounds like the pressure release function is broken.

Question:
hi mate im trying to change turbos and im having trouble getting the two underside bolts off from the manifold. ive tried using a socket a spaner and no luck. any ideas!!!!???????

try plenty of plusgas...not wd40, you need a proper penetrating lubricant! also try undoing them after starting the car for a while- ie the nuts get hot!!!! they are easier to remove then!

Question:
confused?

i am, and im not sure that anyone has a definate answer,

iv asked so many people which driveshafts are uprated, and no matter how many people i ask, i still get a 50/50 answer?!!?

got some from gsf, and im lost now

R43807 and
R43808

are the thicker tubular shafts

r43806 and
r43804

are the thin solid ones?

i now have all four, lol, which ones do i need to use for a stronger shaft? im realy confused?

cheerts wiz

Answer:
ive already given you the answer to this one....

gsf stock is mixed up on shelf, you have to specifically ask the main supplying hub to handpick the ones you want and get them to send it to your local branch. there are at least two muppets i know of who are more than likely will end up doing this for you...

Subject: Engine rebuild

Question:
Hi! I'm planning to send my engine from Norway, and over to England for an engine rebuild. -my budget is around 2000. Is K-tec Racing a good alternative? Will this be enough to get 200+ BHP? Thanks!!

Answer:
why not do it yourself? surely there are engine machine shops over there? - get a lightened flywheel made up. buy some new shells for the crank. get it all balanced- not necessary for 200bhp , but it helps. buy new pistons/liners/rings, get them fitted by the machine shop. also get a 285 cam, with springs. does the £2000 include money for a new turbo? you will be able to do it for alot less!
btw- how much is shipping to Norway? for that money id do it! big grin
