Subject: whats your opinion? Question: ok, before i foolishly rapped my car round a post there was a rattle comeing from the gearbox area, i was quite sure it was the clutch release bearing, so ive now come to change the clutch and on inspection the release bearing looks fine even compared to the new one??? the input shaft on the gearbox has a very slight bit of play around half a mm or so is this normal? and as far as the rattle was concerned it was only at idle in neutral when i pressed the clutch pedle it went away. so while its all in bits should i invest in another gearbox or should i just put the one i have back on??? your opinion would be greatly apreciated cheers wizzo! Answer: mine funnily enuff does the same. rattle rattle rattle. ive inspected mine too, even changed the release bearing, but, its gonna be a gearbox change job to really sort it out. there should be no play in gearbox input shaft at all!! |

Subject: Money & Happiness Question: Dear Wizard, Can money buy you happiness? :-) Answer: happiness is a double edged sword. Money has bought me happiness recently, yet like most renault's its kicking me in the knackers already. Generally, money certainly does bring happiness, cos it gets you in the position to do or buy the things you want, whether its a feeling or an emotion, money will certainly get you where you need to be to obtain it. Those who disagree, usually have a middle/upper class background, and aren't exactly short of a few pounds!!! |

Subject: CLUTCH Question: HI I HAVE A STANDARD R5 ITS RUNNING 14 PSI AND THE CLUTCH IS SLIPPING IS THIS TO MUCH BOOST TO RUN AND IF TURNNING IT DOWN SHOULD MY CLUTCH HOPEFULLY STOP SLIPPING THANKS DANNY ENFIELD Answer: Is your nickname 'pin' by any chance? I'm only taking the 'piston', keep 'bearing' with me coz I'm a bit 'crank'y. *Available for comedy hire at...* If the clutch is slipping now, it'll inevitably get worse even if you do turn the boost down for a while, so it's time to slap open the leather, hoik out some folding, and treat your car to a new clutch. A Valeo-Volvo 440/480t clutch kit will suffice - Have a look on the boards for clues as to where to source it from. |

Subject: liners Question: is there any way of checking liner seals cheers Answer: The only way of checking them is to remove the liners from the engine, so that's a head off and sump off job I'm afraid. As for the seals theirself, there's not a great deal to check apart from obviously making sure they're intact and not split. |

Ive tryed setting this up but can only get actuator set 10psi or over 20psi hmm... Please help ? how should this be connected up to work so I can run 12psi to say 17psi with out going over. Cheers Daz.. Answer: have you tried making the pipework smaller (2-4mm internal bore), this makes the bleed valve far more sensitive to tweaking... |

Subject: driveshafts 2 Question: hi again, just a quicky, will any renault shafts fit my clio turbo, i,e not just turbo, coz my mates got some off a 1.4 campus??? or are these weak? help me plz ;-} Answer: all renault shafts look the same, the thin ones aren't great for big power. the real difference is the length of them. to short and they will pop out when you turn. too long and they will vibrate the gearbox and engine in a very alarming manner! |

Subject: well it aint good Question: i have searched for air leaks on my system but to no avial, i seem to have corrected the boost problem a little by doing the cup mod, the dump valve is not releasing the pressure now till its sposed to but the turbo only spools up to 0.4 bar or less and sits there wizzing away. could this be actuator problems? or wrong adjustments. ta wiz Answer: most likely wrong adjustments or a serious leak! does the actuator look old and scabby?- if so it may be fecked.... how about checking the bolts that hols the actuator bracket onto the turbo?- they can come loose! |

Subject: engine Question: hey wiz i was thinking of getting a strut brace cause its now lowered it will finish it off.but the plastic air box is in the way of me doing this.would it be possible to fit a inlet elbow on top of the carb?and finish the hoses to the gtt air box?would the starting be a problem?or when driving?eg the theromstat captual what is the point of this this is?and can i fit a power boost valve to the engine concidering in the manual it says i have the engine from the r19 campus model (1390) single point fuel injection i noticed on the passangers side engine wise theres a t-peice section is this were i replace it?if not known hw can i find out? thanks matey Answer: i wouldnt bother with the power boost valve, i would just do the timing sensor mod... im not too familar with the campus air box system, although if there are and pipes that goto it that control vacuum and stuff id be careful. if its only the thermostatic flap thing you are worried about id ditch it. i know once you unbolt it then you have just got the top of the throttle body to look at, maybe best to find summat to attach to it (if anything at all fits ) and see if you can fit the brace over it.good look mate- you'll feckin need it! |

Subject: re209 in efi ? Question: hi can the re209 coil and the timinig sensor can be use in a efi conversion ? i know that the clio/twingo C3G engine uses the same timing sensor, flywheel and a coil of the same type. tks Answer: if the efi conversion doesn't mess with ignition side of things then yes - such as megasquirt. if the efi does alter ign settings then you will have to use a seperate tdc pick up. |
