Subject: cams Question: well, prefibly more mid end, im running low compression so apparantly i loose torque, i shud be using a t25 for everyday, but mainly a t28 for fast raod and track, i am after a cam that will provide top end breathing, but will hopefully give me lower and mid end to comensate for the low comps, and also lag.... i never rev over 6000, except on odd occasions i take it 6200 on tight twisty bends etc where gearchanges arnt a gud idea., but obviously with teh bigger cam and turbo i may have to rev sleighly higher to get the power, would using a vernier pulley help aid the setup of the power band? Answer: Piper 285 would be a good choice. |

Subject: Which is more gay? Question: Dear Mr Wizard; I was looking at some rather strange pictures via the interweb, where it would seem 1 man was entering another... Now which would be more gay? The man who, was being 'bummed' - wanting to be. But on the other hand, the man 'bumming' - wanted to bum a man. Im confused?? Answer: ill put it another way. why is it that most straight men wanna sh@g women up the ar$e? are they in the closet?- unlikely....so assuming that wanting to slip one up the back aint that gay, then surely the one offering the ass is more gay. its a power think apparently....

Subject: piston Question: i want to replace my piston, ring and liners. can i go and buy them of the shelf and they will fit or do they need to be a certain size thanks for your help? Answer: yes you can buy them off the shelf at loads of places, and they will only be ever one 'standard size'. but you will have to find an engine shop to push your old pistons off the conrods and put the new ones on!- should cost around £25 for 4. |

Subject: locating dowel Question: starter went faulty, replaced with another, crunching noise still there when starting him up,someone says there should be a locating dowel-whats that? and do need it because there wasnt one there when i took out the other starter? any help please david Answer: you do need the locating dowel, else you chobble your flywheel. it get stuck in either the gearbox or the starter.... best check both bits. you can get them from renault. the dowel, looks like a small piece of pipe, and it makes sure the starter motor is in the correct position before you tighten it up. |

Subject: psi Question: whats the max psi i can run with low comp. pistons, standard liners, fmic,fm oil cooler, dump valve, air filter,4-2-1 manifold,2.5 inch turbo back,t25 turbo, copper rad and paddle clutch.jets r unknown but use to run 17 psi fine for a year then cracked a liner and what sort of power would i b expectin from the psi u say. cheers mate hope to hear from u soon Answer: i reckon one million psi, which should give you a billion bhp, for approximately one zillionth of a second. there are a few key elements to look for here. at 17psi you cracked a liner. which tells me that maybe you should run 15psi until you get an uprated fuel pump. at 15psi on a t25 you should get 150-160bhp i reckon. |

Subject: Boost Question: Hi Mr Wizard Sir Could you share with me a little of your infinate wisdom please, im wondering how much boost i can run before it becomes a danger to my car, i.e does any damage to anything. Ive got an uprated head gasket, a grp A carb ( not sure of the exact jet sizes ) , green filter, scorpion exhaust and a dump valve. I havnt got any equipment to test the boost level, so could you tell me the laymans way. i.e where abouts on my standard boost guage the needle could go up to. Thanks ![]() Answer: the standard gauge is 15years old. the metal its made from will be suffering from cyclic fatigue, which may mean nothing to you, but in laymans terms means that its dodgy. shell out for an aftermarket boost gauge, and then we'll talk turkey

Answer: an air lock? or a pipe split? what state are your pistons in? id also check the aei is fully functional- i.e can hold a vacuum if you suck the pipe that comes off it. |

Subject: rung me nuts off?????????????? Question: hi there i have read some of the answers that you gave about removing locking wheel nuts if you aint got the key, but my problem is that i have wierd shaped locking nuts and on the front of the nut is a cap and bearing so you cant drill it out, i have been told that you can get a special tool to remove them or things like reverse patterned drill bits, any ideas? cheers Answer: is it the renault type with the spinning metal ring around the outside of the bolt? you can buy stud extractors, but they dont work if there is any torque on the bolt, and you would have to drill a hole into the bolt. you can buy a special bolt extractor set, but ive never seen whats in the kit! |

Subject: boost gauge Question: hello mate iv just fited my boost gauge it should be standerd but its telling me that im running at 20psi. iv only had the car for 5 months the guy i brought it off didnt have a clue wot was under the bonnet. i fitted it to the base of the carb on the drivers side.is this wrong or wot im lost of wot to do next cheers dave Answer: if your car is running 20psi then it must be running more boost than you suspected. unless of course when you fitted the boost gauge you bent the back of it, like i have many times, and this causes the insides to bend and touch the outer casing , thus rendering it useless. |

Subject: funny valves on the back of the inlet Question: hi wizz i had a moan from the engine bay on idle and have chassed it back to one of the two valves on the inlet manifold but i am not sure what they are so i could change it any ideas i know that they are to do with the breather but other than that i havent a clue Answer: the best bit of your whole question is the last 4 words!- never a truer word typed! ![]() in all seriousness though, the valves should only let air in one way, the one on the drivers side is for the brake servo!!! the one on the passenger side is for the breather system. if you have a moaning sound , then you either have a leak....or more likely the 1.7mm restrictor has been lost in the breather pipe from the manifold to the T piece... |

Subject: a few idea Question: got a few idea's on how i think to gain a little extra power, water heated manifold....do i need it? could i remove the pipes and heatwrap the inlet to protect it from the hot exhaust manifold? also, do i need the pipes to the carb aswell? can i get rid of these of would it be an idea to keep these ones? also i know you may say it would take a while for carb to warm up to burn fuel efficiently.....so would it be wise to do this in summe ronly? cheers wiz?...... Answer: don't bother messing with the original water routes. this will cause problems. you are allegedly better off wrapping the exhaust manifold, turbo ex housing and the downpipe, so the exhaust gas keeps the heat in until its past the turbo. you'd be better off making the car lighter. |

Subject: water injection? Question: i know how the injection works.....but.. how more efficient is it at cooling? may be a daft question but wud it keep the turbo colder for longer, aswell as the bores and exhaust manifold? and where can i get a cheap kit? Answer: you are talking gobbledegook! you obviously don't know how it works!!! the water injection is very good at cooling, much better if you add methanol though, as it absorbs more heat from the surrounding air that way. it doesnt cool the turbo, it only cools the boost from the turbo. the cheapest kit that i found was off ebay, via a company called aquastealth.com . phoned them up, and was with me 4 days later from the USA. around £160. don't overestimate your bhp though, as they will send you a very large jet and it will make the car misfire!!! |

Subject: Oil pressure and turbo gauge Question: 2 things, I have a renault 5 monaco and a gt turbo. On the Monaco when i turn the ignition on but dont start the engine the oil gauge shows me the oil level, The GT turbo does not do this. When the engine is started the gauge does nothing on both cars, apparently it is supposed to then act as an oil pressure gauge?? My turbo gauge randomly stopped working after I floored the throttle in first gear and did a little run. Any help please? Answer: check the pipes for the turbo boost gauge, favourite area for feck ups is where the pipe emerges out of the bulk head and connects to the side of the carb, the clear pipe has a 90° elbow on it, and they can crack!! check the wires to the depth level sensor- jack the car up and its in the front of the sump at and angle upwards.... just buy an aftermarket pressure gauge- the renault ones are sh1t! |
