Subject: which model Question: what model car would i look for with a turbo in it .... i.e i wont a volvo to do a conversion on my 5 .. so would i be looking for a volvo li,sxi or which one would i need? dont no the model no. i am looking for vheers mate Answer: 440 turbo or 480 turbo. all say turbo on the back. |

Subject: how much BHP? Question: Hello wizard, I was wondering how many BHP my car is likely to produce with the current mods I've done. You can see the specs on my profile. To be complete: I still have a standard exhaust system. I intend to replace it with a 2¼"" stainless steel one, with a 2½"" straight through silencer. Would that increase the power even more? And by how much you recon? Thanks a lot! Answer: oh no, not another sodding how much bhp do i have question!!!??? i reckon 180bhp with standard exhaust. yes the power would increase with the bigger bore exhaust! |

Subject: rear drive train Question: Hello wizard, I've recently bought a second-hand rear drive train from a R5 GT Turbo ""Cup"". I've heard that it has thicker torsion bars and that it's lighter than a standard one, it that correct so far? Now for the actual question: I also want to lower the front of the car by 35mm. Will I also need to lower the back of the car with the cup rear drive train installed? I've heard that the cup R5s were lower than the standard R5, so maybe I'm lucky! Answer: i think you need to ask a few of the people in the club with r5 cup's. there are several, and if you PM them they will be more than helpful, especially if you say i sent you. try Mart or Eugein, they are likely candidates! |

Subject: Cam comparison Question: Hi Wiz, sorry but another ""BHP"" question. I don't think it has (cos it sounds a bit different from my old one which did have one)but thats another matter. How much bhp do u think this engine would have at 20psi compared to my old engine which did have a 285(otherwise std).? Both engines where using a t28, and charge cooler, and intercooler. Question: hi wiz just i am thinking of getting a bk box for my 5 it is the non turbo though. would u know on what exhuast i can get and what sort? i was thinking of just a unversial one?how would it be possible to fit?would i need any extras...oh and y is the exhst intermediate section diffrent from the turbo and non turbo?with the down pipe section starting before torsions?thanks Answer: the turbo exhaust section is larger bore than the non turbo. the universal back box maybe made to fit, it you got some straight pipe or felxi pipe from an exhaust place, and clamped/welded it onto where the original back box went. |

Subject: help! Question: hi wiz my car cut out the other day and will not start ever since. i have renewed the fuel pump and filter and timing sensor wire ive pulled the fuel pipe off the carb and nothing is coming through i crank it over and the rev counter doesnt move neither, im not getting any sparks from the plugs could it be the fuel pump relay or what else could it be ,ive got petrol in the car lol,the car turns over fine but just wont start please help me!!!!! im gunna buy a fuel pump relay tomorrow hhhheeeeeelllpp!!! Answer: is the relay that controls the aei ok? - its right next to the aei in the scuttle tray. if this is faulty then you wont get any sparks. btw stop moaning on the boards about question/answer times, everyone wants to know how much bhp their car gets with a turbo and x amount of boost or how much they need to do to get 200bhp. it gets tiring. |

Subject: starter motor again Question: i need your help dear wizard, i have another problem with my starter motor i recently fittted a new starter motor and i was going to work yesterday morning i stopped for about 5 mins, when i tryed to start my car it would not start all it would do is spin over like the starter is not engaging. i put the car in reverse and rocked the car, tryed to start it again and it started. could it be a sticky solenoid or something, it is a brand new starter motor.what do you suggest i should do Answer: it sounds like a sticky solenoid, caused by heat from the exhaust. maybe you can take it off, and lube up the solenoid mechanism...(remove by undoing two 7/8mm nuts) i could suggest you wrap the exhaust, or put renaults start heatshield in place.... |

Subject: electric windows Question: when i took the window down it was fine, when i tried to close the window nothing worked and the window wouldnt go up Answer: there is corrosion on the connector to the window mech motor. clean it. should sort it. |

Subject: dodgy gearbox Question: whenever i change into second gear it always crunches for some reason, even if i come down the gears, however if i change into second gear very slowly then it goes in without crunching. Do you have any suggestions to the problem? hopefully not a new gearbox Answer: change the oil first, and see if that makes a difference. are all your engine mounts ok? is the clutch on the way out? if all is ok, then its gotta be your gearbox thats fecked... |

Subject: starter 2 Question: one more question about my starter. everytime i go out in the morning the car wont start, it keeps spinning but nothing happens someone suggested it could be a bad earth connection. could this be true and if so where do i find the earth for the engine which links to the car body Answer: it sounds more like the solenoid isnt flicking the gear onto the flywheel ring gear. maybe time to remove the starter and clean the solenoid out. |

Subject: carb rebuild kits Question: Hi, Just a quick one, where is the best place to buy a carb rebuild kit for the 9 turbo as i wish to do this soon? also thinking of taking boost pressure up from 13 psi, what boost can i run with grp a head gasket, stainless exhaust and ally intercooler without losing any reliability or blowin up engine, Thanks Answer: Carb rebuild kit can be sourced from Webcon and/or Southern Carb's (numbers in contact section). Should be around £22 + P&P. 13psi will be fine, and you should be able to run that without having to modify the fuelling/carb jets. |

Subject: Oil catch hoses. Question: Hi wiz. Is it very important that the hoses to the oil catch sits the right places? And what would happen if they didn't? I have a breather filter on too. Thanks. Answer: yes, if you dont have them in the correct places, or they are snapped or blocked then you may get smoke from the exhaust, or even oil blowing out of the breather filer. |

Subject: jets Question: hi wiz i have k-tec ktr350 rollerbearing turbo fiesta turbo charge cooler ktec camshaft ktec group a carb uprated head gasket i get 170bhp at 15 psi and wanting 200bhp so im going to turn psi up to 20 psi what main jet and air correcting jet will i need to do this ? i dont know what size is in at the mo cheers for the help wiz! Answer: is it a ktec grp a carb or one 'your mate had knocking around his garage'?? if it is ktec, i suggest you have a word with them... i reckon it should have a 150 main and a 90 air corrector in if its a 27mm venturi..... good for 20psi in my book.. |

Subject: Wobbly Steering/Wheel after 60mph Question: Hi, When I brought my first 5, I had this same problem, through the steering wheel you can feel the wheel wobbling at higher speeds. It turned out one of the track rod ends was shagged and the joint had loads of play meaning that I could rock the wheel (left to right) quite a bit. I am getting the smae problem with my newest 5. I jacked it up, expecting to find play left-right in the wheel like I did before as the problem feels exactly the same, however was dissapointed when I found very little play in any direction in the wheel (either LH or RH). Can the steering rack cause this problem? Its definatly at the front of the car. Cheers. ![]() Answer: your wheels are to blame, they need rebalancing. try putting the front wheels on the back and the back on the front to see if it makes any difference.... |
