Subject: oil from dv Question: wot do u mean by running the oil breather filter mod? Answer: the telephone hose that sits inbetween the turbo and the airfilter, has a small hose that comes off it and joins the breather system round the back of the rocker cover. pull the pipe ut of the telephone hose, and block the hole. then put a mini oil breather filter on the end of the pipe that u just pulled off, and cable tie it somewhere safe. this stops oil vapour being pushed back into the boost system, and should stop oily dumpvalves. also worthwhile turning the intercooler upsidedown for about 1/2 hr so that all the oil that sittin in it drains out! |

Question: hey wiz, i have just spent the last 2months re-building my engine, i have uprated pretty much everything except the turbo, i am running a charge cooler, with low comp pistons, i was wondering what would be an 'ideal' day to day boost and what would be an 'ideal' quarter mile boost. also what sort of turbo will i need with this, i dont want to loose the punchy ness of a standard gt turbo but also at the same time keep the boost high and reliable????? any help??? Answer: 15 for road maybe 20 for 1/4 sqm's but have it all set up for 20 or wot ever you decide wot max boost you decide on |

Subject: Cup Mod. Question: Hiya Wizard, I carried out this cup mod to my 5 using the diagrams I found on the web. I now seem to be running about 0.1 of a bar less. I checked all the connections were tight and put exhaust sealer on the M12 bolt (with a split washer) in the exhaust elbow. Still 0.1 of a bar less. Any ideas? Thank you. Hezza. Answer: easy one this . when you do the cup mod you remove the second circuit the second circuit has a slight pressure when on boost . this second circuit holds shut the wastegate. as you say you have a slight drop in boost . this tells me you have done cup mod correctly, or at least near enough so to gain your required boost level back up to your desired level you will need to reset the acctuator arm .. shortening the arm increasses bost lenghtening the acc arm decreasses boost . guess wich way you need to go on the accuator arm ![]() to adjust the acc arm first look at it you will notice that there is two small round dents on the fat portion these dents will need drilling out (dont go to deep, just enough so that you drill out as far as the outer cassing)these dents are there to help stop the inner shaft from virating out . you will need todrill out these dents so that you can turn the outer portion on the threaded rod. one last thing when you adjust is unclip the rod from the waste gate and thurn the outer fat shaft try not to turn the threadded shaft in the acctuator , you stand a risk of damaging the diaphram in the acctuator if you turn the threadded rod . |

Subject: Perc Fan Question: Hello Sir Wiz Me Perc fan comes on and dosnt turn off it just keeps on going until it runs the batt flat and of course i did'nt notice this until i had to go out one morning and the damm car was dead. so at the moment i am having to keep going under the bonnet and plugging in and unplugging. is it somethink stupid like the relay that is fooked? Thanx Answer: pull the sensor away from the turbo, as if its too close, it'll be constantly hot. more than likely though itsll be a sensor gone bad. but change the relays anyway, u never know how old they'll be! also wise to check wiring, to see if they aint melted together, as this can happen real easy to the perc fan wiring. |

Subject: fuel tank Question: i have a leak from the yellow looking bung i wondered if this could be fixed or is it a new tank Answer: some say new tank straight away....but. some people have successfully covered them with fibreglass resiny type stuff....i.e ISOPON. others have made a bung for it and wedged it in there so it dont leak..using a bung with a hole in and a coach bolt and two large washers. tightening the bolt expands the rubber bung inbetween the two washers, hence the hole gets filled. try all methods!!! |

Subject: Difficult to Start...then struggles.. then idles Question: Hey Wiz, My brother's Renault 5 Campus Prima is having problems starting. It has been running fine recently, then all of a sudden it decides to give up! The battery is charged, the starter motor turns fine. When I turn the ignition the engine turns over but is very reluctant to start. It does start eventually if you keep the starter motor spinning for long enough but then it idles very poorly at first. Then it seems to pick up and idle normally, but when I turn the engine off and start again, the same problem occurs! I have just changed the spark plugs as they needed doing anyway and the problem still remains. I can smell a faint wiff of petrol near the carb, could the engine be flooded? Please help, the car used to start perfectly before, no signs of trouble and then all of a sudden its given up! Thanks wizz Answer: what carb unit is on the car, or is it a monopoint injector? either way sounds like the choke needs sorting or cleaning. |
