Hi all!! Just a quick one.. How much bhp can u get out of a c1j? I.e standard block and forged. What's the most you've heard one running?
Sorry for the special question I just believe I'm being blagged by a lad I no.
Cheerss boyos!

glen hi5 is pushing the boundaries of the c1j atm
dont go on just bhp either its how fast you can get the thing to accelerate.
torque...
Yeah I appreciate its about torque and getting the power down but I'm just after figures so I can wise up and not be blagged if you understand? Just want to no of the most powerfull c1j's you've heard of.
Thanks again.
take a look at the gianni santi vids. think one of them says his bhp somewhere. what mods and how accurate i dont know.
For what it's worth i ran a T28, Forge FMIC, re jetted carb, stock bottom end.
174bhp-176ft/lbs at 18psi.
13.9@102mph at the Pod day in 2008
~240hp on std compression P&L's, std bottom end, std head & valvetrain, and std venturi.
21psi = 112mph traps. I think that still tops the low ish boost pressure vs trap speed table, NOS aside.
Great load of information!! Thanks a lot. I'm gunna take the lads 400 odd bhp as clown poo then!!
You can up the bhp by adding some bling, a couple dump valves.. some neons and a bass box.
Ive also heard that if you rub ronald macdonald up the right way you get a shot of his nos
That's great news. I've just purchased some flashy dust caps so sure they will count for something also.
Yup i can confirm this is true mate.
i took of my chrome wheels and fitted some clio 15" standards after doing this i only had 410bhp so i put the chrome's back on now back up to 612bhp .
also my dvd player packed up the other day so i replaced it with a standard stereo i didnt have enough cash left over to put it back on the rollers but i can say it felt alot slower.
The most I've seen from a C1J is 419 BHP.......... on a rolling road
most the folks certainly the ones local just talk poo jamie, ive heard some of the most silly things down this one.. one guy (and this is serious) told me he was running so much boost it required hugeeee jubiless around the whole engine and the head... obviously the head bolts wernt up to much..

interesting one there.. reading the spec the engine sounds quite nice, when you see its just a mess, often its not the owners of the cars fault though, i think its just what there told, either by tuners or the guys they buy the car/engines off.
Also if its that guy who used to drive the mk1 escort rs aswell (think he owns a cossie apparatnly) he also told me his came onto boost twice and reved to 10krpm and beyond... Tom whos usually with me can also vouch for that, as we both looked in sheer disbelief at the **** rolling from his mouth..

Think everyone has had it at some point. When I got my car it was 210bhp on a standard t2 live and learn
Does anyone remember the one in Max Power many moons ago that had 550bhp?
It had a K-Tec 350bhp engine, with a 200 shot of NOS on top
gianni santi, glenn hi 5 & scoff's old c1j were all surely over a genuine 300hp i would think? possibly more?
Not forgetting Stuart Clark as well.
Surely it would have to be forged after a certain amount of power?
npt sure on what the limit is with the c1j but from what i see its not to hard to get it around 200-220bhp which i think is about perfect for a gtt
I remember him very well, he's from my way.
I've had run ins with him, what a crock of crap that comes out of his mouth! Doesn't have a clue.
I have the mag with his car in it here, reading the spec its alot of tuner BS and with the spec is realisticly no more than 230-240bhp but according to him its 550bhp and nothing out there would beat it.
Also that run he apparently did 550bhp on, he split the head in half.
I think if i forced enough nitrous through a C1J to point of descruction to get huge power claim can i say i have most powerful!
i saw jaffa get 280bhp without NOS on two rolling road days.
i also saw Glen T get 365bhp with NOS on the rollers ( at power station?)
Is this the one you mean mate?

Yeah but wasn't Glen the brains behind the car's back then! Trev had left for gay-tec and it was Glens work that Danny was selling!
The golden rule here being that you should almost never believe anything that an RR has to say.
Maybe you can trust it if it's a brand new, top of the line Dyno Dynamics but if the geezas got some old sun roadamatic or bosch 202 in his floor that hasn't been calibrated in 10 yeas then I'd be walking away
As the guys have said, 240hp on a standard internal engine is about the limit. Even that takes some accurate tuning, a good cam and a T28 to achieve. Mart always used to do very well at such relitively small amounts of boost, but most folk find it hard to make 240hp no matter how much boost they run.
Stuart clark has to be No.1 carburetted C1J BHP guy in the UK. He will have had an honest 300+ hp to make the trap speeds he was doing. As he prooved to himself though its nigh on impossible to go any better than that even when he added nitrous and found he went no quicker.
Finally now that we have an EFI powered C1J owner willing to push (or should I say let me push !!) his engine to the limits (Glenn HI5) we are able to see what additional power the C1J can make with the tiny carburettor removed. Glenn's engine is pretty hardcore in terms of build but essentially still runs a standard-ish cylinder head and a common as muck Piper 285 cam at standard timing. It makes 270hp or so @ 32psi boost, day in day out (you can literally pin your foot to the floor in 5th gear, get right up to the rev limiter and not have to worry about anything letting go!) and about 400hp with nitrous switched on. With a carb that would have been very hard to do.
What interested me the most with EFI on the C1J is that up to about 25psi of boost (in Glenn's case) the power output was comparable to that of a well setup carburettor engine. But where as most carb fed C1J's refuse to make any more power past that sort of boost the EFI engine would just keep going and going, responding to more and more boost. We've been able to go right up to the point where reversion has become the biggest problem and so now we're trying a new (actually my old C1J) camshaft to see if it'll help with that.
There you go, probably the longest post I've done for months
really good informative post there
haha yeah lets all go to ktec
*Waits for the 'close but no cigar' quotes from that Redline RR day...*
that is nothing . we had a south west meet a few year back . one kid who came . no names mentioned [ but he is on here] jesus in the seat knows who i'm on about . think he said he was running 26 bar of boost . must make the bhp fgure in the region of 1050 bhp or getting on that way . so yeah mate 400bhp from standard engine not a problem .
I was misquoted.
