Subject: Full engine bay re-paint. Replying back from question 7792

Question:
Hi wizard

Hope all is good and well.

Thank you for replying to my message 7792. Yeah there are body shops here that can do the work but can also make things worse buy not knowing how to connect things back properly / breaking bits etc...
was looking for someone who's had experience with Renault 5 gt turbo removing engine etc.. and getting the job done properly rather than someone who don't really have experience with 5s. Ending up with more headaches. Don't really mind travelling 30-35 miles out of London to get the work done. If you could let me know of any recommendations it would be a big help. Also wanted to say thank you for the rtoc keyring and air freshener.

Hopefully I can link up with someone who's properly experienced with Renault 5 gt turbo. (Fingers crossed). As it is my pride and joy and nothing even comes close to my heart. Love them.

Answer:
Evening, sorry for the delay in response on the wizard questions you have asked. I can think of a couple of people whom can assist markey mark over in Aylesbury would be good for all mechanical works and he may know a bodyshop that can assist him. Mike @ Gtturbo spares but will be costly but good. Or myself but I am down in west sussex I have a small unit for my hobbies but on the site I have my unit is a really good bodyshop that can do whatever is needed.

Subject: Reply to question 7794. Engine bay repaint.

Question:
Hi Wizard,

Hope your good and well.

Thank you very much for replying back it's much appreciated.

Dude just wanted to ask about how much roughly would it cost. If you were to do it.
Don't want anything special just painted black. Don't mind helping out.
(Keep costs down)

Mike at gt turbo spares is s lovely bloke but is always busy. really hard to get hold off. Was lucky once to get interior rear plastics off him had to drive to his gaff to collect them. And he took them out of his personal Renault 5 turbo to sell on to me. what a cool bloke.

once again thanks for getting back to me.

Raj.

Answer:
Hi Raj,

Unfortunately I wouldn't do any of the spraying a business around the corner from my unit could do that, they are good do a lot of high end performance car's.

Anything mechanical I would undertake, although fitting and removing panels etc.. I can do aswell

Subject: safety pressure sensor

Question:
hello, I am in the process of buying a r5 raider. I noticed on the car that safety pressure switch on intercooler inlet isn't connected. Should this be a worry? The car has a standard set up. thanks

Answer:
Nothing to worry about its an over boost sensor, unplugged means someone has increased the boost pressure above std.

Subject: Rear torsion adjustment so I can get my 18s back on.

Question:
Dear wizard,

Hope your good and well,

Thanks for getting back to me in regards to the engine bay repaint at
The mo I'm gonna have to hold back due to finances but was going to ask you if you knew any one who can adjust the rear torsion bar so I can get my 18s back on. It's sitting on ronal 15s at the mo. But would love my wheel mania 18s back on. If you could point me in the right direction and cost on getting the rear torsion adjusted would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
Mix man. Raj.

Answer:
Evening Raj, has this 5 gtt your talking about had 18s on in the past, only ask fitting 18's on a gtt does require some modification to the arches. Rear torsion would need raising to allow for clearance. Markey mark is based in aylesbury so pretty close

Subject: cooling sensors

Question:
Hi wizard, thanks for the answer on high pressure switch. I am picking my car up in a few weeks and was thinking about changing the rad fan switch and radiator thermostat for low temp ones. would I also need to change water pump sensor to a low temp one? Thanks

Answer:
The sensor on the water pump itself is just the temp sensor for the dash, you do not need to change this.

The std stat and rad switch is perfectly fine for cooling a C1J down, If its getting to hot I would be checking the coolant system and giving it a good flush through.

Subject: anti perc fan

Question:
Hi Wizard me again, Finally got my 5 turbo and I am wanting to put it back to factory standard. My anti perc fan doesn't seem to be working. I can only find diagrams that show carb switch, my 5 has turbo heat shield and sensor but not wired any where. Where in the circuit does heat shield sensor get wired to? I know it would work with just one sensor once I trace wiring out and fix but as heat shield sensor is there I would like to include it in circuit. Thanks again for any help on this matter.

Answer:
The heatshield sensor would T into the connectors on the carb base, they used to be twin spade connectors on each pin on the carb / inlet base switch

Subject: Under performing

Question:
Hi wizard,
I’m hoping you can help diagnose a fault that with my R5. The car feels like it’s lacking power and the turbo seems to be kicking in later than it was at around 4.5k rpm and it doesn’t pin you back in the seat like it used to there also seems to be a fair bit of popping from the exhaust when letting off the accelerator . I’ve checked for boost leaks and can’t find anything I’ve also fitted a new fuel filter (this needed doing anyway). I’m leaning towards an issue with the carb or maybe the manifold gasket just from what I’ve read on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Chris

Answer:
Evening, Have you changed anything in the setup before this occurred? Could be a few thing's causing the issue carb fuelling. I assume idle is normal

What turbo you running? what cam?

Subject: electronic boost controler

Question:
hi wiz I would like to fit an electronic boost controller to my r5gtt track car do efi sell the complete kit and how do they work what sort of money would they be I would like to adgust the boost to suit the different tracks I go to some are smooth tar others are muddy and slippy many thanks

Answer:
As the R5 GTT doesn't have an ECU you will not be able to control a MAC valve by itself what you would need is something like an AEM tru boost or an Apexi Avcr, so you have a unit to control and set boost levels.

Is your car EFI?

Subject: Under performing 2

Question:
Thanks for the recent reply, the car is totally standard apart from a s/s exhaust system. The carb was adjusted slightly by the chap at the mot station in order to pass the emissions test this was approximately 1000 trouble free miles ago.

Answer:
I would be looking into carb, Personally I would get someone whom knows about the setup of these to have a look ? what area are you in? thinking an area rep would be best to have a look at the car for you
