Currently circuit racing my 5 on a T25 and making around 220bhp, makes for quite a competitive car.
To some people too competitive and want me to run an original T2 turbo.
What sort power could I get with a T2.

Can't run a T2 hybrid?? Could see 180-190bhp max I reckon??
No, T2 only.
180bhp...what boost would that be. Dont want to be blowing turbos every meeting.
Is it possible to build a high compression engine and run less boost to help with reliability.
The old grp a 11 turbo used to wring approx 180hp out of a t2. However they used to replace it after every rally. Hybrid t2 may be reliable but you will always be limited by the small hot side.
having had a t25 for the last 10 years and gone back to my original t2 I have to say the t2 makes the car a lot quicker sooner...the boost comes on so quick!! get a 360 degree T2...there's an ebay turbo company that does a kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T2-T25-T28...item4abd4b7100 its easy to overhaul ur turbo........so long as u mark it up first
I had a T2 hybrid, 285 cam, low comp pistons at 18psi (I think from memory), and had 175bhp approx 99mph traps at Santa pod (so around the 170-180bhp mark).
Pushing lots of psi through a T2 ain't always the answer for bhp... As I am sure your aware, think max bhp from a T2 would be around 160... Although depends on engine spec...
the high compression idea with the t2 might work but ud have to get a different ign system........scoff might have some ideas on that.........plenty of skimmed heads about...lol
Why would you want to go slower....?
Is there no other series you can run in?
I think daves thinking of reliability matty, after the last season he had...
ive run quite a few 5`s with t2`s, mostly at 16-18psi and hardly ever needed to change a single one..approx. 170bhp, pulls great and doesn't put too much stress on all things when constantly under load, good cam etc etc and they fly..
I think it was the engines rather than the turbo that has been the problems Matty.
Running a T2 on its absolute limits isn't going to cause reliability problems?
Also, not being rude, but a typical days racing is 15/20 mins of quali, then 2/3 races of 20 mins. In my book, that's about an hour of being at full chat.
Slightly different to a couple of session on track-day or a couple of squirts on a hillclimb/sprint.

Yep, every other stage sometimes... On the montecarlo they had a box of exchanged turbos for the scrutineers to look at at the end.
180BHP will be about your flow limit through the t2 rear housing, that will be your limiting factor as Brigsy says. You'll also be increasing charge temps massivly above that. Having said that I'm sure there are a few ways you could squeeze a few more ponies out but that would take a lot of R and D...
Who's complaining about the tomcat exemption?
This is a company i have used for head work in the past. They also do full engine builds too worth a look if needed. Top work from them and very helpful.

Hi,
Which championship and class do you run in?
Ian,
Ian, just in case you hadn't seen it, Adey asked you a question in his thread regarding your manifold setup:

Thanks guys for the replys..
I raced with CTCRC pre '93 couple of years ago and wanted to race with them in 2014.
I was told I can only race if I put the original turbo on as the car in current form is too quick
Got a few options where to race next year with current set up
the car is not to quick its the others that are to slow
I use a T2/T25 on track days (with quite a lot of other mods) and it pulls really well, revving to 6.5k without bother. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.
Has to be T2 Alex.
I ran a T2/25, was very good before going to the T25.
The point being it's not a bit step up from a bog standard T2 in terms of how it makes boost and drives etc. I can't imagine there would be a whole lot of difference if I stuck a T2 on. I'm guessing your engine has the same/similar mods to mine (CTM stuff) so you mite find similar results.
I guess you're just going to have to bolt a T2 and see how it goes......
How are you defining a T2? Are you defining it as a standard t2 factory spec ?
it'll be quite a challenge with a standard turbo. How much power do your competitors make? Your only real hope is area under the curve, assuming the turbo is flow limited, and not boost limited you might be able to run 2 bar at 2Krpm rolling off to a bar at 6Krpm (just making up figures here), and end up with 160 hp from 2000 to 6000 rpm. You'd need to fit a speed sensor to the turbo, and map the boost and ignition to keep it safe. You'd also want to talk to whoever builds your turbos and explain that you're going to rev the cahones off it, and to balance it extra well... it'll drive more like a diesel than a race engine.
at the end of the day, if your competitors have much over 180hp and you have longish straights you're screwed.
I ran a T2 @ 22psi on track for about half hour. it melted a piston and set me car on fire.
The "original" turbo, I was told.
I probably didnt do myself any favours when we were racing at Mallory, a cup car was also racing in standard form..... I nearly lapped him.
180ish bhp isnt going to be competitve, I dont want to spend extra money to make it work either.
I wont be putting on a T2 to drive around the back....... been there done that
Like I said got other options with the car.
I melted a set of piston rings with a T2 @22psi manifold, it was a few flat out runs in Fifth that did the damage.
I was getting tinced by a ****ing Skoda - I didn't really have an option but to wind it up. By the time I had finished making a mockery of said deisil, I was makeing just as much smoke. And coincedently - it was the last time I was at Snetterton, so I'm hoping for better luck tomorrow LOL.
Seems strange that you've been running (I think) that or a similar setup for a couple of seasons, and now you've developed the car and your doing well they cause you of 'cheating' Ina roundabout way.
I got acused of all sorts after croft Rally, where we came 3rd in class and 15th overall out of 120 starters, I had my turbo restrictor checked twice and fuel samples taken (don't think they checked but was in spec), they even made me remove the carb top to check for a 'bypass' or other similar crap... Just from complaints from the big boys running 100k teams....
Makes you frustrated wen you have a good result and instead of well done you get made out to be some cheating southerner (even though I grew up there).
If they won't let you run a tomcat if find a better series...
