    Cam timing

    Afternoon guys,

Right quick question about can timing. I've got the BB 5500327 cam, the old man just put it on with the standard wheel so get the timing sort of right, put the vernier on to find oit it was 180 out. He just wanted to check that when you do the timing properly with vernier it has to be set up to number 1 piston (flywheel end) inlet valve?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I don't understand how it could be 180deg out when swaping standard pulley for vernier pulley

    Re: Cam timing

was just that when i went dot to dot on bb cam with standard pulley the no1 piston inlet valve was only at its highest position when the wheel was basically 180 out then 110 aftc if ya understand, i fitted vernier and got true tdc then did 113 after tdc on fw end no1 piston inlet valve so all should be sweet now

How did you get on with this? I had a similar experience last night. I assume that you turn the crank 360 then you get full lift at about 112 degrees after that 1st revolution

Done on tappet No -2 inlet flywheel end???

    Re: Cam timing

As the head was off I got the true tdc with the dti gauge them I put head on found full lift on flywheel end inlet valve removed timing chain rotated crank to 113 in our case put chain back on then checked fully 3 times had to make a .25mm adjustment but that was it done tbh I made a m7 bolt up changed with tappet as I couldn't get dti to stay on tappet I drilled part of a hole in this so the dti stayed located on full lift for a accurate dti reading all sweet and done now. To answer your question it is the 2nd tappet along from flywheel this is known as no1 piston inlet valve

Thanks, for that. Did you have t rotate the crank though a full 360 degrees before you got anywhere near thetappet started moving.

    Re: Cam timing

If it states 112 then do that some people set them to 110 thou as it comes in earlier I chose to do ours to what the cam literature stated

    Re: Cam timing

I'll leave it as it is now, I've been running at about 129 degree's for years without knowing it. Should feel nice when it's mapped again.

That's good to know, I was happy with it at 129 tbh. This may be the 1st time it's ever run right. Can't wait.
