my f7p turbo conversion 2012-2018 upgrades

heres a few pics of my new set up for 2012 before christmas i fitted a new set of piper 285 cams and made a new inlet manifold out of 120mm alloy tube.once fitted it was time to go back to mr scoff for a remap dropped the car up to him before christmas and will be collecting it this sunday the 8th jan.after let him loose for two weeks now doing further upgrades the main one was i bought his old turbo garrett gt35r which he fitted along making a new 3inch-2-1/2 downpipe and he also fitted a new 50mm turbosmart wastgate.to view this work scoff has done in technical files on the club forum under scoff all sorts-jobs,his work is superb and his mig welding is as good as tig welding.

    https://www.rtoc.org/files/?path=Tech...s/Turbo%20Ted/

heres a clip that scoff sent me this morning of my car on his new rollers making 451hp at 2bar boost, collecting car this sunday cannot wait to get me motor back, big thankyou to scoff once again for his precision work

This car is epic. I remember a few years back when it had full leather seats and chrome bling. From show car to a 10 sec beast. Well done rob.

you've got a keen eye, that video might have been an earlier one at about 380hp or something. You don't win any prizes though

Its also a timed test, so that means no matter how much torque the motor makes the acceleration rate does not increase. It has the effect of making the car look very linear when actually there is quite a lot of midrange.

Ha, just glad to see the rollers up and running... I'll have to get my finger out and get mine down to you I've heard about Andy C's rolling road running in technique

The main thing for me is safety because road mapping was getting a bit silly toward the end. I don't think I could go back

Probably wouldnt of been long before it would of drawn negative attention too. A couple of neighbours complaining of noise for example.

Yes but no prizes for you either It was an idea I got from the superflow tech guys. The rear roller does nothing on this dyno (on some others it's used for wheel speed I'm told) so it's entirely possible to run on the front roller only. It makes for much better grip. The software allows me to remove the mass of the rear roller from the inertia calculations but it makes next to no difference anyway since it's the brake doing most of the work at 300hp+. I was doing a big turbo C20LET corsa yesterday at 470hp and not a hint of slip from that either. Really happy with that, I was worried grip was going to be more of a problem than it is.

out of interest ( the first to ask the questions)
has the new inlet manifold increased in cubic volume over the o.e item (with the longer runner system) as the fabricated inlet has much shorter runners, or where they shortened to reduce ftlb/ but increase hp, i'm also wondering how laggy that gt35 must be what rpm,s is it spooling at with 29 psi

must have felt awsome on the road ted

Re: my f7p turbo conversion 2012 upgrades

It hasn't left the workshop yet, I hope the gearbox lasts more than a few pulls up the road !

I don't think robbie will mind me saying that it's laggy, about 5500rpm before it comes on strong. I think torque was in the order of 320lb @ 7000rpm (really) but I don't have the plot to hand. He can post that up if he wants to

would 270 cams with a bit less overlap/lift have helped in spooling up ? or would have choked /held up the flow at that kind of boost i'm pushing 290ftlb ,so it will be interesting to see how the gearbox/clutch holds up, as there only supposed to be rated to 300ftlb it will be fine, mostly wheelspin

a very well done again ted and scoff another f series renault showing the numbers
you can breath some magic over mine in a few months

Re: my f7p turbo conversion 2012 upgrades

the main reason for changing the inlet manifold was the car was running to hot as the inlet was on top of the rad and no air would flow from fan and out over the engine.
the internal diameter of the old inlet manifold was 80mm and the new manifold is 120mm with 50mm runners so the volume should be slighty bigger.
shorter runners it will have less torque, but i don't want any more torque before on the old turbo at 28psi and at 6000rpm it made 345lbft.
the set up now is all the power is at the top end to go pod racing

Just spent the evening back up with Chris @ EFI parts and now the new engine setup made the magic 500 running less psi but making more power, 506bhp @ 28 psi to be exact!

big thanks to chris aka scoff

see link below, not a great video though

His engine breaths a lot better now, so good work robbie it took something like 8 or 9% more fuel above 7000rpm. If the gearbox and shafts last I think he could go 137mph in the 1/4m

    new engine spec
williams head bigger inlet valves and ported inlets, standard exhaust valves and slightly lower compression than before, they're the only differences and its making extra power.
Still on pump fuel Shell Vpower and a pint of octane booster
and yes it will be at the renault turbo festival.

Awesome, just shows old school tuning such as bigger valves make all the difference
