    For users of Adaptronic engine management

    Incase it's of any use to the Adaptronic lads on here I'll included a post I've just made on the Adaptronic forum about the Adaptronic drivers I wrote for WinLog.

    If you're looking for a nifty way to view live data and log it then this is for you

    Hi Guys

    I had a customer ask me if it would be possible to use the very handy, free version of WinLog with his Adaptronic e420c.

    No one had written a device driver for it and since it would also be usefull to me I decided to write one.

    I've included it here for download.

    Its tested with some E420c's and an emulator. It should work fine with 440's too. It will not work with E420b !

    Connect the laptop / PC running WinLog to the ECU in the same way you would when using WARI (for 440's it will be neccessary to connect a COM port to the Serial out jack).

    What is WinLog ?

    Go to http://www.devtechnics.com/winlog.htm to read about it, download it and so on.

    Then download my driver bundle (for COM1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) here: http://www.efi-parts.co.uk/downloads/Adaptronic_WinLog.zip

    Read the included README.TXT. In short, you install WinLog, un-zip and copy the driver files (link above) in to a new directory (not the WinLog directory). Run WinLog, go to "File, Open Dashboard", navigate to the drivers directory and select "Adaptronic.dsh". Finally, go to "View, Device configuration" , "Add" , "Have disk" then navigate to the drivers directory and select the apropriate driver.

    The dashboard is configured for the COM1 driver as default. You can right-click, then go to "Edit, Properties" on each of the gauges to set them to a different COM port driver if you wish.

    You can fiddle with the dashboard (screen) layout all you like, I just included a basic one to get you going.

    What can I log with this driver ?

    RPM
    AFR
    MAP kpa
    TPS %
    Water temp
    Air temp
    Aux temp
    Injector duty cycle (%) (a calculated average of the 4 injector outputs)
    Ignition Advance
    Fuel trim %
    Knock (0-255)
    Battery volts

    I thought of you when I wrote that bit Matt, sorry mate

    If enough people asked I could probably include support. The 420b speaks the same language as the others except it needs a handshake first to put it in to modbus mode.

    i bet adaptronic cant beleive there luck in finding you as a dealer

    Is there anyway this could be hooked up to a in car screen so I could bin all my gauges.

    A few years ago they were selling a "vidigauge" kit but they seem to have not been pushing it of late. I don't know if it's still available ?

    You could use WinLog on a tablet, or anything that runs Windows. WinLog itself is really nifty in that you can customise the screen (dashboard) to use digital meters, analogue dials and whatever size you want them.

    The software comes with a view tool aswell to review the logs, a little like Innovate's software.

    Hmmm I fancy a 440 ....anyone want to buy a 420c ? or 2 in fact .One from my GTA and another I bought for a customer but didn't use as we found a lot of rot that ate the budget

    I think they'd have been happier with Demon Tweeks

    The winlog guys provide the information you need to be able to write a driver for it, so the only real work is dealing with the protocol of whatever device you're catering for.

    Yeah I did have a look a while ago didn't look like there one took off. But there where 2 others that where compatable but had silly price tags. Like the idea of the tablet might have a look at those really cheap sat navs first as I think they run a form of windows software and have been know to run other programs. Time for a google me thinks.

    Yeah, things like the Dash2 support the ECU, but all of those systems are big money.

    On another question i have the ETB Digidash 2 can this be used in conjuction with the adaptronic in any way

    This I don't know matey, you'd need to speak to the makers to see if they have or can support the ECU !

    Just been out for a play and it works for me with my usb adaptor and laptop.

    Thanks for the new tools looks very clear and easy to read. just need the car running again to test it all out properly.

    Thanks, thats good to know, I didn't try it yet with a USB adaptor

    I just updated the download zip with a slight tweek to the driver code with better comms error checking. I included Fuel trm and Ignition advance values too. If yours reports version 1.0 then re-download, current is 1.1

    That's one of the ones I looked at. $500 is about £330 once postage and import tax has been added I could see it costing £500. When for £100 a 2nd hand tablet pc could do it too plus more.

    Yeah i asked about the Vididgauge ages ago but again no 420b support. Would be cool to have all the info on one lcd screen in the car permenant.

    A 420c with about 4 hours use .The guy's ' Tuner ' didn't understand/like it so he's now going Emerald ......... Have not got loom for it but Scoffski will
    Yours for what I paid , £300 collected
    The other is in the GTA and has been used for about 4 years

    Lee, adaptronic were offering a trade-in for people who wanted to upgrade to a 440. It took about £300 off the price. That was a while ago but I think they'd still do it

    I've added another channel - AFR Wideband - which echos the result from a wideband controller connected to the 2nd serial port (EG Innovate, tech edge, AEM UEGO, etc.)

    Sorry andy, I read back what I just wrote and it didn't make as much sence as it could have !

    In other words, if you have a wideband controller in your car which has a serial out (like an LC1 or AEM kit) then you can connect that to the 2nd port on the ECU. Then, the ECU can keep track of AFR so you can enable closed loop below 100kpa say, for improved ecconomy and emmisions. But aside from that you can now log that AFR reading along with all the other important paramaters in Winlog.

    Before you could only record the value from the narrow band sensor, if installed. It wouldn't report the result from a wideband kit connected to the ECU.

    Been playing with this data logging software great bit of kit once I figure how to get the graphs up. took me a while.

    One question Is there any reason why my car turns over but will not start while WINLOG is open?

    No reason Andy, it shouldn't bother it in the slightest. I can't even think how it could stop it if it wanted to. Only the boot loader can stop the ECU running normally

    Another question been data logging again trying to figure my fuelling issue out. I noticed my battery voltage is all over the place. Is this just the alternators regulator doing it's thing or should I be looking for poor earth's and loose wires. My in car gauge stays steady and is not showing this fluctuation.

    Where is the ECU getting it's supply from ? Could be a crappy connection somewhere, bad ignition barrel or something along those lines.

    If it only does it at higher revs then it could well be the reg in the alt on it's way out

    I'll have a look at that tomorrow as it was ages ago when I put it in. but looking at the full graph it's all over the place. at least I know it's not down to an high sampling rate and to investigative some more.

    12.6volts at 1000rpm is too low
    It is altering very quickly it does look like maybe its the regulation of the voltage as it looks like its averaging around 13.6volts which isnt too bad. difficult to say, ive never scoped the battery voltage to see what the charge regulation looks like. maybe have a look on picos website they may have something

    The peak-to-peak ripple voltage out of an alternator can be as much as 4 to 6V at high output currents.
