    Project Monaco

    Hi

I bought this Renault 5 Monaco 1.4 auto with unproven "17,000" mileage on clock as the previous owner said he lost the paperwork. But that's didn't stop me as I won it on eBay for £410 and got tax/tested till Sept 2014 and need bit of attention to bonnet, front bumper and rear boot lid to repair/paint to match.

My plan was to put either phase 1 or 2 body kits I got in the loft, lower it with Renault 19 phase 1 16v 15" alloys. After closer inspection of paintwork/Monaco body panel trims, it's mint so leave it as it is and just lower it with 15" for retro look.

Hope you like it (Excuse the last pic of my boys, they want to pose for daddy!)

    Re: Project Monaco

As the post won't let me put more that 5 photos so here another pics with 15" alloys trail-fitted with standard height and body panels as it is, not too sure about black painted so may change colour to dark-ish bronze colour with silver on lip?

I am waiting for gtt lower springs I am hoping to win bid on eBay to fit on front before lower the rear to level the ride height.

Front done, now doing the rear, all in a day's work with tools for pulling out torsion bars, crude but effective that I have been using same tools for many years on lowering r5gtts

    Excellent stuff

Can you show me or provide more details on that home made tool for the rear beam?

Need to raise mine I think.

Not yet driven it as need new battery and it's on order, the front springs bit hard and quite low compare to standard height i haven't had chance to cut off the top half of bump stop rubbers on strut tops, it might be bottoming out as i want to check the ride height

Looks great. Ride height is just right. I love the paint colours on the Monaco's.

Matt, if he fits a GTT front bumper without the front arch extensions, I think the side flare of the bumper sticks out a bit oddly.

Trevhib correct on that, I got o.e gtt front bumper but it's sticking out so keep it standard except that stance and 15", only thing is the colour of alloys, thinking of painting it light(ish) bronze met colour with silver on edge of wheel lips, or paint it tungy colour?

    Decision, decision

Sounds like a good idea, I'd be very interested to see how it turns out

Actually, it's a crying shame this car isn't the 1.7 manual gearbox variant.

My EBS GTX cabrio got 1.7L 5-speed manual and am told its same engine as used by europe's R5GTE but without fuel injection 😉😎

    Re: Project Monaco

Smart. Not sure if that's different to the 1.7 carb'd Monaco, which IIRC was about 100bhp and quite a lot of fun by all accounts. Wondered if the Euro GTE had a bit more power.
