    Re: Starlet Turbo's

hmm i wonder what the outcome would be at 1/4mile event..? r5gt turbo vs starlet/glanza turbo..???
i would have thought starlets where a better match for us rather than polo g40's

at the end of the day the 5 probably isnt the fastest 1400cc car out there - anyone know what is.?
the beauty of it is that there cheap to fix and a nice basic engine that still gives modern cars a good run

My cousin has one of these, 260hp (apparently), and it shifts. My 200hp 5 can match it from take off but from rolling it pulls about a car length, truely frightening and bullet proof engine

    Re: Starlet Turbo's

sister in law has one and has just forged the engine, it was 190 bhp before with a few mods and was pretty damn quick, its now in the reagon of 220 ish, and i watched her wizz around castle combe not many car on the track that could match it there, nice cars, but for me there japanese corsas.

engines are strong, and there highly tunable if you want to throw lots of wedge at them.

few other mates have tdo4 conversions and there 240+ with proof, and yes there quick, i think slightly better than the 5 on relaiblility and every day use.

yes it'd defo be a good showdown, oldskool vs newskool.

has anyone every wondered how the gtt would fair up in a 1/2mile drag race..?

are there any 1/2 mile strips in the uk.?

i think 1/4miles are pretty boring over too quick too many quick cars around now lol.

also just wondering.... what speed would you say a gtt is comfortable at when cruising at a constant high speed.? ie motorway cruising!
the last time i drove a 5 on the motorway i hated it as the turbo was screaming, i know it sounds daft but i hate a turbo sreaming when all you want to do is cruise at a relatively high speed. is this what t2 turbos are like.?

i think there evenly matched to a point but looking at some of the 1/4 times on this sites board i dont think they'll quite pinch it somehow, usual 1/4 for 180-200 starbo is 14 secs from what i have seen,

This Glanza V is about as good as it gets in the Starlet world. Has to be the 1998 facelift. £4.5k though. Anthing less tends to be particularly ugly on in the inside and rather ugly on the outside.

depends what boost you are running to the sound of the turbo at any given speed. like when i first got my car , at low boost it would sound bad screaming at 90mph

once the boost was up at 15psi manifold , could cruise at 95mph and be under half boost , and its quite and sounds balanced

    Re: Starlet Turbo's

A mate's been messing around with them for a couple of years now, they're not too expensive to build a forged engine, including rods, for either, probably less than a 5 to be honest.

They've got a tiny CT9 turbo as standard, pretty similar is size to the stock T2 off the 5 really.

The last car I went out in had 299bhp and 301ft lbs... I'd been in 5's with 250bhp or less and they felt the same. Power figures are thrown around like they're everything to go by on all the Jap forums.

Mind you, matey's new build should be impressive, with the Gt2871R he's using. The lag is comical though, nothing till past 5k rpm. The stock heads flow well and the cams are pretty good too. Although I haven't seen the difference with an aftermarket set of cams.

    They look proper gay though.

i raced a black glanza on croft erace track in my gtt and buried it , they dont handle, not as standard anyway, but they are bomb proof

In my experience a starlet needs aprox 50 to 70hp more to keep up with a 5.I don't know why but íts a fact morever It looks like the helmet of a soldier in Starwars and its handling makes me believe that the suspension is filled with jello.

No its because 5 is a masculine car that makes you feel ten times you size when you drive it.That's what makes you feel you don't fit in a 5 and that is the exact reason why you feel a Starlet is more comfortable.Your manhood and ego are so suppressed by driving a Japanese super market car that you get the feeling you have the size of a Japanese driver (in every aspect).

err ive never owned a jap car. and to be honest the 5 is small but it isnt that small, i think its more the seat size width and height from the floor than anything else.
id be alot more comfortable with wider/lower seats, but as im not keeping the 5 im not bothering

there not too bad, the cockpit of a 5 is cramped anyway you only lean from left to right a little bit before you touch the door anyway, but i can see your point raj

Accurate as always. The top mounted i/c when moved to f/m possition with o,9 bar boost produces 170hp.And a T3 turbo and a fmic on a starlet with 0,6 boost produces 250 hp.Only in Greek edition starlets..I am more than sure that these statements will only make you laugh but this is what starlet owners believe here. That is why we had a hell of a time with them in the late 90's.It was bup not bhp.(u stands for unicorn).
