Found pic on eBay France that nicely shows what you should buy to fit fancy new FMIC on your five
is that kit for sale on there then? how much for if so? cheers
a bit expensive jesus lol
Thats brill mate, if you could get some pics of the top mounting point that would be great. Unfortunately mine'll be mounted the other way round i think, with the outlets at the top!
i tried that2 start but had about a flys dick worth of space 2 play with... i`ll try get some pics up4 u asap chap.
Looks like a tidy job Blick, fair play. Has anybody measured how good these coolers are with an act gauge?
blick, can you take a pic of how your pipes are routed behind the drivers headlamp.?
do you think you could use the samco hose from the old intercooler circuit, the same way you have the intercooler mounted down the bottom of the bumper blick? as i really like the look of it looks kinda factory lol, smart
Right ok, has anyone got any performance figs for these, as im about to fit all my running gear to my ph1 which means off with the cross member, Yes yes i here some of you moan but im building the car for ME too enjoy and not think about the the next owner etc (prob never sell on anyway) and ill brace it up as you do. The only problem ive got is that ill have to do away with spot lights and some bumper mods which at first i didnt want to do with it being a ph1 but as its cracked anyway im thinking sod it... If these coolers tho work well at say 20-25psi with good temps id consider fitting one? and if its small enough for me to keep my nice orange fogs....
Nope. Not yet. But someone with standalone could do that fast and accurate.
Ok thanks Jure, I would hope they are more efficient than the standard intercooler!
They sure are. I can tell that just by looking at water temp gauge. You must know that they must be better due to larger capacity and better position.
Yesterday and today, I also installed my fmic... however... ... I have a non-standard alternator (a bit bigger than the standard item), so I really couldn't fit the 90 deg elbow over and behind it. But... I found another solution fortunately. So, if anybody else has the same problem: here's the solution
Fit a straight silicone joiner or hump hose (I prefer the latter due to its flexibility) to the carb inlet elbow, after that your alloy dump valve T-piece (or just a 10cm alloy hose joiner) and finally a 90 deg elbow which goes straight down, to the right of the alternator and oil filter. Then you'll need another 90 deg elbow that goes around the oil filter, so that the bottom (horizontal) leg runs between the oil filter and engine mount. Then 2 more 90 deg elbows and you're back to the FMIC outlet. Mind that this option is slighty more expensive as you'll need one more alloy joiner and one more 90 deg elbow. Pictures will follow when everything's ready...
Got my grill mount fitted the other week, with thanks to Mike (Ph1 16v Turbo) for the hose ideas, Think Automotive for the hoses and my Grandad! Charge temps are around 11-16 on cruising depending on ambient temperature and at 18psi on a good run it rises to 36-38degrees, and falls within seconds back down normal temp. My collant temp has risen a bit since fitting it, it has been hotter here the past couple of weeks but i still think its risen a little since fitting it and also the engine bay is considerably hotter. I dont have a thermometer to prove this but its been enough to notice it!
i used a cossie 4x4 fmic on my old 5 but heres a pic of the pipe run
It kept breaking the ignition leads, I need to find a source or 90 degree leads next time, need to get myself another fmic, the pipes are right on the front member with the cossie one, so interested in more pics of the grill mounted options, im tempted to move the oil filler neck on the rockercover to the right side for abit more room
i just bought one, but its a bbtuning smooth one, i might buy one of those unstable cable ones and get that rewelded, i was running what i call 'Otter mod' carb top, took off the plastic elbow, filled two grooves round the carb, and fitted a silicone 90 degree hose onto it
how much metal did you cut out to get the pipework in blick?
