Right what exactly does a group a carb consist of?? or how does it differ from a standard carb??
Right what exactly does a group a carb consist of?? or how does it differ from a standard carb??
27mm venturi for one ,jets changed
group A carb was never fitted to a gt turbo by renault
not sure of sizes but ive just fitted gp a carb and also have a rejetted one and wondered which would be better and why if you know
also more info on this topic would help me out too
well with my past experience i had a lot of trouble fueling it , and it did not make a big difference , i went back to a standard carb and re jetted and set it up to the correct boost .
i think they are pain but thats my thought on them
We all have our own style group A carbs
group A carbs are just over sized off the shelf tuning items for peeps to plug and play with huge jets giving poor AFR readings through out the rpm range to aid the extra boost and cover the tuners arse from failing cars and come backs... In my eyes anyway....
Most members these days have learnt (from RTOC mainly) how to tune there own carbs to MATCH there OWN cars spec perfectly by doing the correct jetting needed as each car and carb seems to change ever so slightly.
It's just a 27 ventuire and hard to set up
well my so called group a doesn't have this part fitted
Thats odd, you will need that..... accel jet...
group A carbs
try working out how a carb works
the fuel is not squirted in it is sucked in, the venturie creats the sucktion
Group A B Y Z or Fecking D......
Yeah mate group A head innit, I actualy hate ALL that tuner bollox.
Fact a certain member on here sold a carb on ebay... listed it as group A.... and got over 200 nicker...
So lets see shall we what things make it better because its group A?? i mean all round, with all parts that are catagorised.
Shall we crack open the fact or fiction box?
well by the sounds of it group a or not the accel jet removal does not seem to be right
.... the Grouping drives me nuts
And actualy MR TURBO aka smart arse, i was getting involved in your question and expanding on it, so people could give you a better answer.... but i see im unhelpful...... wasting my warrior talents on you
Never under estimate the power of the force....
Were there not genuine group a carbs fitted to the R11 rally cars. I think they had a longer venturi to compensate for the extra width.
You need to refit that accelerator pump jet for sure. Without it you'll be flooding fuel into the venturi as there's no seal (fibre seal that the jet sits onto the body) to stop the fuel 'leaking' along where the nozzle arm sits, and dumping into the venturi thus so - This'll happen everytime you pump the gas pedal, and hence will be a nightmare to fire up the engine (due to said flooded carb).
If you do magically manage to get the engine to fire, you'll probably find it'll die as soon as you pump the gas pedal - Again, this is because you'll be flooding the venturi with all the excess fuel coming up from where the jet should be.
In short, and to save me waffling further just re-fit it! And don't forget the fibre/rubber seal either
Fitted the accel jet back with rubber/fibre seal sounds ok still....Also had a little fiddle and sorted my accel pedal stiffness too still need to road test it tho
Just to throw my usual into the mix. I thought grp A carbs were 28.5 mm with a large brass auxillary venturi and choke flap removed.
Back in '98 I made one with a 34mm butterfly and 30mm venturi. It ran, but I never had any feedback on what it was like to jet, or if it really made any difference, for that matter...
The works Grp A carb ran a ~25mm venturi. Definitely nowhere near 28.5mm.
You do get a new pump jet seal in the Webcon overhaul kit.
I think everyone is focusing too much on the title rather than the opening post but in other words yes you are correct with what can be modded.....I also remember years ago there being a recommended jet size for general all roundedness that was good for up to 200bhp i think gt tuning used to sell them as straight replacement
You must have been very lucky if off the shelf carb jets worked for you. Jet it up properly yourself with some means of measuring the afr...
