I managed it man. All i did was printed the guide from the articles section. Got a real clean work surface and some vingar to wash parts in , and took my time doing it section by section and highlighting it as i went along. If you are worried about getting any of it back together take a pic.
I'm planning on doing my carb soon as I have no idea what state it is in internally but given how bodged the rest of the car has been no doubt it needs it! Some pretty good guides in the article section I doubt it will be much hassel to do.
Whats the best way to bring the actual carb housing up like new, a rub down and some silver paint? or bead blast it? naturally all gasket faces and what not would be covered.
Just got my service kit from the club shop for £2.50, bargain
Nope I stand corrected, just got an email from Clee I used the wrong discount code!
Gimme a break guys ...
Thanks for understanding Lee
It's feckin complicated Too many little boxes hiding away that need ticking/OR NOT!!! to set up all these fantastic members discounts ........
Sack the shop manager i say ....
stop moaning an start rebuilding them carbs!!!
Any ideas on how to bring up the carb body like new?
lol cheeky sod, I tried that before on the gearbox while it was out and still looked discoloured and dull, i'm just wonderign how people get theirs looking new after refurbs.
Rain down on me!
Its funny i've seen that kind of fail happen several times on parade, not nice!
Moving to technical forum
To clean mine up I used a screwdriver to scrape the worst off, a stiff brush and some wire wool. It doesn't look like new but its clean enough for me
Markey B done one with a dremmel and it looks amazing.
All is ready i will start shortly.....Bloody eck what a nasty color it is i would definately be a fan of brightening it up a little looks well dull
do i need the 6mm spanner or can i get away with using a 6mm socket??
the carb is made of magnesium isnt it,would that affect what
you can use to clean it up?
All done and dusted.....Loads of little bits left over tho the moment of truth is coming i'm gonna go refit to the car now......Fingers crossed eh
Just finished tinkering with the carb and it seems to be hunting a little and wont settle down been pissing about with the idle and mixture for ages......sounds like a rough porsche engine
it seems the grp a what was on there was better on idle etc but just hesitated on boost sometimes......My mixture screw maybe fooked as it seems to make no difference when adjusting...may swap the bottom bit with the green seals and mixture screw over.....also the accelerator pump how far must that be screwed back on??
So no mixture screw in the service kit? Does it just have a small o-ring retained on the end or something?
well i have taken the whole carb off and will have a good little look around

on the mixture screw is it supposed to have a point on the end or flat??
should have a point on the end mate...i bet yours has snapped off in the base of the carb, very common to happen
yeah, just tap it out with something very thin / strong and get yourself a new mixture screw
Tried it again starts then dies and doesn't start again WTF is the problem
have you gt the black rubber O ring on the mixture screw?
yep all is on there but no go.....Just changed back to the other carb and all is fine again....Now my radiator fan ain't working instead
trapped air, broken relay, wires popped out of the fan switch? or even a broken fan switch.
bets on it being the mixture screw....
Picked up a mixture screw from renault today all sounds ok now on tick over even tho i did want to swap carbs oh well.....but the gas pedal now seems a little stiff and resistant to push down any ideas?? haven't driven it yet tho as for the fan the lil barsteward was always a liitle noisey but worked wonder if it has popped its clogs
What does this spring do??? Is there a recommended setting when screwing back on???
