I have been a silent member of the club for quite some years now, mainly because my 5 has been in different storage units for a long time and only came out once in a blue moon!
Having got rid of one of my other cars, I have decided to get the 5 out of hibernation and use it as my daily for a while, and to also iron out any final problems that occur - none yet thank god!
I have actually had my 5 for 7 years now and I have not even put 1000 miles on it! I actually learnt to drive in my 5 with L plates on! I had it before I even had my license!
My car is a red 88 Phase 2, looks wise as standard as possible with the only modifications in the engine bay and suspension really. I had a full respray about 3 years ago. With it been stored quite badly in various different garages and barns and sadly been neglected for too long, Rust is starting to rear its ugly head around the windscreen, I haven't looked underneath yet! So I think in the next year I will be taking it back to the bodyshop to have it all sorted out again.
So far my car engine and turbo are standard with the basic things improved such as forge fmic, forge actuator set to give 14 psi, cup mod, ktec manifold, scorpion exhaust, green cotton air filter, gaz suspension (only fitted to the back at the moment, haven't got round to the front yet).
When I first got the car it had been stripped out and used for racing/rallying. It had rust, barely any interior, bucket seats, things like ball joints, steering UJ, brakes and many, many more things were shot.
I have replaced A LOT of things on the car, but I still have a long way to go, as I am sure we all do!!
I have had many problems with the car too, and this forum has been a godsend for fixing those problems, so thank you to everybody who has helped answer questions in the past, it really is a big help to everybody in the club.
I am currently stockpiling parts to give a jump in power, so far I have a T25 turbo, piper cams pulley and valve springs, uprated head gasket and bolts, valeo green clutch, lightened and balanced fly wheel.
I also have brand new engine parts such as water pump, alternator, juracing engine bay wiring loom and fog lamp wiring loom, full matte black samco hose kit and everything for a full service.
Couple of extra things I want before getting the engine out and fitting it all are a one piece downpipe/elbow (either big jim or rtoc club one), better radiator and fan.. and i'm probably forgetting a few things.
I am hoping to hit the 200bhp mark with those things combined with what I already have, do you think I will?
