    Spark plugs

How can changing spark plugs become difficult...basically 3 out of the 4 plugs were easy. The one furthest to the left (if you were facing the car) was hard to get out and now the last plug basically won't go in, no matter what...tried using different ones etc. Finally i thought it went in so im twisting it in, only to find that it isn't in the right position and now is stuck..as its dark I couldn't be bothered trying to get it out anymore.

Just venting some frustration, the plug is probably cross threaded now, but none of the plugs would go in!!!

    Re: Spark plugs

I think that cylinder gets hotter than the other 3 (so I've been told). The engine I bought with the melded piston, that was the same cylinder. Couldn't get that plug out either. Do as Raj said if it's not cross threaded.

i would have thought something like,
position piston at top of its stroke, stuff some cotton wool, tissue etc into the plug hole, do the helicoiling, then use a vacume to suck all the swarf out.!
thats what id do if i wasnt going to take the head off.

    Re: Spark plugs

It is aluminum. Swarf will burn out really easily. Use some kind of grease when drilling. That will prevent lot of stuff falling into the engine

Ok I don't know whats up,i got the plugs in and changed the oil just now. Now the car seems to misfire..when cruising at any speed it will misfire but not cut out, like a dodgy connection somewhere?! Any ideas? I took all the plugs out, made sure they were clean, checked the hole for anything... any help appriciated.

    Re: Spark plugs

Ok more of an update (everythings fixed now) i checked the new plugs vs the old plugs and on one of the plugs, the spark clearance (if that makes any sense) was near enough touching, whereas the others had about 2 mm on them. So i increased the distance and wala...its working fine...

    Thanks for the help everyone
