Due to get the car back before christmas, then will try and get it some of it back together over christmas, so may get it back on the road by feb/march??
Went to the bodyshop last night and a man was sat on my car welding up the bit of rust on the top of the windscreen I didn't fancy doing, nice to see it getting worked on
Cracking on now mate
Coming on now Jeff what body shop you using and where about's are they keep the hard work up mate
http://www.autotechmitcham.co.uk/ they are a 2 minute walk from my house so nice and local
Great job, keep at it
Looking like its gonna be a cracker mate
Can I be cheeky and ask for a pic of one of the rear bumper mounts please?
The side mounts. Just behind the rear wheels.
I have repaired mine and I just want to check they look A1
Thanks
I was hoping to get the car back before Christmas but its not going to be until the new year now, here are a few pics of the outside in primer
All good things come to those who wait buddy, this will look fantastic once finished, look forward to seeing it
nice work mate. this is going to be amazing!!
Shell is still in the shop, so cracking on with other stuff...
I have cleaned and painted the engine mount brackets, sump and bits in the picture. Started to clean the gearbox ready for paint, need to sort a leaky seal in the box also.
Also managed to drill out a stud that snapped off in the head, I was lucky this came out as it nearly went pear shaped when the drill bit broke off in the stud
Did you paint up those bits your self? Looks mint. Been following your build from page one, come a long way buddy, really looking forward to seeing this all back in one piece.
You got decals to go on after?

yep all done myself, when I take my time it comes out great, there's the odd bit I rush and the finish suffers
What are Deco's?
The "GT Turbo" panels stickers decals.

That is, 'decals', just to avoid any confusion.
Nice to see it coming together Jeff. So we will see you at Surrey meet in the Spring in it?
ah decals! thought as much
Yes, I have a set of OE (£££) decals to go on. These stickers complete the original look I am going for and are a must have on a R5GTT imo.
Taken the head off my engine as there is a stripped thread in one of the plug holes and some crap has gone into the cylinders. Have been thinking about putting a 285 cam in but cash flow is a bit tight, but as the head came off I thought I may as well take it all apart anyway and try to find the cash to buy a cam.
The valve and cylinders need a good clean anyway so worth the strip down even if i stick with the normal cam.
Some pictures, does the head/valve/cylinders look normal as there seems to be a lot of oil/soot on them?
Cleaned up the silicone hoses as well:
Before:
After and engine parts:
Can anyone ID which clutch this is as well?
clutch is luk oe in all german cars matey so its a good make
I was told it was a 'Volvo' clutch when I got the car
well it may well be a volvo but the centre plate is LUK, is the outer labelled too if not someone may have only changed the plate jeff
If you can spare the money, I would stick a fresh clutch on and get the fly resurfaced as it's all out in bits.
Saying that, I think I've got the "uprated" Valeo green box center friction plate brand new kicking about some where in one of my many boxes that I don't need. If ya can get a new cover and I can find it, possibly donate it for free.
Nice work jeff
Good work fella, while its all out be worth putting a new clutch in, unless its a clutch thats only done few thousand miles and appears to good condition
Excellent work.I hope my scuttle panel isnt as bad as that when I take the screen out!
Mine looked tidy like yours then I also took the bodykit off to reveal the horror!
The clutch looks ok and was fine when I last drove it, so think it will be ok for now. I can't see any marking on the pressure plate to ID it. Is the luk unit from a volvo engine or something?
It was quite heavy, so I have a soft peddle kit to go in the gear box, also have a lightened flywheel so will stick all that in with the existing clutch i think as cash is getting tight.
I've just ordered a Piper 285, springs, pulley etc so once its all set up with the T25 turbo and nodiz kit the engine should be pushing out some decent power.
Very good question! The body shop is very busy every time I go there, I live close and drive past in the evening and they are always there till 8-9pm, just not working on my car it seems... but apparently they are spraying it today, so will find out when I go there tomorrow.
Weekend updates:
Got a rebuild kit for my T25 so set about cleaning, painting and rebuilding it. It had a tiny bit of play before but now its solid and spins very freely.
After a long cleaning process my gearbox now has a couple of coats of etch primer on it.
Inlet and starter motor also in primer. Refurbed the battery tray, drilled a few extra drain holes in it as well. Gearbox end casing also painted.
It's close! shell and parts are now all primed and checking paint shade samples tomorrow morning with the body shop so they can paint it and get it back to me by end of the week.
Went in the body shop to check the paint colour this morning. I'm going for the same tungsten with a bit of extra metallic silver but without the blue and purple glitter splatter.
There are 4 different shades of the Tungsten 608 paint code on the colour chips they got from the paint supplier. A lighter grey one, bluey grey, greeny grey and a darker grey one. So going for the lightest and going to go in there tonight and mix in some silver with the painter and get a match to the colour I want.
Inside shell is getting sanded down today and they want to paint it tonight, last pic of the bare shell before paint:
Fantastic mate looking forward to seeing the finished product
Good stuff. Sounds very nice and looking forward to painted pics
about time get lots of pics up for us to dribble over of the fresh paint
Looking forward to seeing this painted
Body shops all appear to operate in their own space-time dimension.
Gear box looks brand new!
Need todo mine, maybe il give it to you and a fiver for your troubles.
That gearbox looks amazing, what paint did you use?
Box was a proper mission to clean, first I used Muc Off chain and gears de-greaser with a brush and water to hose off. Then a drill with a little wire brush bit on the end to get all the corrosion off. Don't really fancy doing that again Goobie!
Paint was Halfords etch primer then I used the VHT paint I had left over from the manifold. it is the flameproof flat silver, then the Engine Enamel Gloss Clear on top. End cover is hammerite direct to rust spray. Done the inlet manifold the same and it look the nuts, need to get a picture..
Great work and attention to detail
