Check the current draw with an amps clamp, should tell you pretty quickly if the starter is fubared. Is this on a gtt?
Yes mate. You have a good day today then?
Just done mine took two hrs undo three ******* bolts and take out through the drivers side whelk arch then reversal easy..
You need to fit a 4 pin relay on the starter solenoid wire mate
Just realise its yours Matt. Yours may have all the shields on so may take longer but access still best when on axle stands and take through the wheel arch.
As brigsy says starter relay mod is needed. Had same probs with mine would do nothing but if you held the key there eventually it would jump into life.
Can you hear the solenoid clicking when you try to start?
Check the connector close to the near side headlight, clean it up i think its a thinker white wire that could be your culprit . Maybe engine earth strap ?
Good luck
Over the years all of the above have reared their ugly heads
simple test run a wire straight from battery + to trigger connector on starter and see if it works it, or get a multimeter and check for 12v to the connectors when someones cranking.
I replaced wire to it etc and still not as good as id like, then fitted the relay mod in line and works everytime
You can just snip the white and both sides of the connector, strip it back a bit and join it using a crimping tool, kinda bypassing that block
I feel you pain, 15 or so years ago has my pants pulled down by renault. New started and heat shield and negative £400. Turned out to be that block!
Clean it up and take it back and tell them your disgusted that it looks to have been fitted !!
Lmao
Glad it's sorted
