Looking really really good mate you have done a great job considering how it was to start with I bet you won't want to use it as much now it looks spanking and new mate looking forward to seeing it at pod well done keep the pics coming
cheers fella
thanks andy should have some more at the weekend
cheers for clearing that up mate
cheers phil i still actually have people saying i must be mad to have spent all that time/money on the car as it was defo a scrapper. still got a few bits n bobs i want to renew over the coming winter but nothing major.
there it is then, looking good mate.
Looking good mate
Awesome, finally! Looks like they are doing a good job too. They look like a right motley crew though, lol.
Looks like a lovely colour.
Are they colour coding the bump strips?
thank god were nearly there
nice one jonny
i must admit that im very impressed by what they have done, and for the price im paying for all the work its great
haha they are a good bunch of characters thats for sure, the guy you see on one of the picks with his white overalls on owns a mint saph cosworth, fiesta rs turbo and an a reg escort cabriolet which is an ongoing project.
yes bump strips were already color coded from previous owner(s) so stuck with that, i wished i had remembered to get the mirror base plates color coded as they look very dated/faded.
Great stuff looks smart bud..
Get the mirrors removed on the day and ask them to just go over them quickly with the spare paint, can't make them worse eh
spoke to my mate who owns gt motorsport last night and i cant send my car up there until monday now as there is no room in the garage to store it until then .
so im going up pay the painter up today and then do any bits that i can up there for an hour or 2.
ill see about the mirror base plates as i also want to get the engine bay painted this coming winter.
Looking fresh!
When I had my last one done, I had the gutter trim strips along the roof painted satin black, worth getting that done when you sort out your wing mirrors base plate mate!
Looking fresh! Andy nearly done pal. Bet you so can't wait to drive the old girl
That looks spanking mate, well worth the wait!
just to note the side decals will be fitted on monday/tuesday this coming week, i personally feel this will be the finishing touch on the car.
That has come together amazingly quickly towards the end. More minty goodness in the club
it did get done rather quickly once they got stuck in on it, i really am glad that i stuck with it and hope that others might consider doing the same.
Looks very nice mate. I would be proud
thank you fella, i cant thank all the people that have helped with the restoration
Hi Andy, wow she looks lovely!!! I will have to pop over for a look one day!!! Totally agree on the stickers, just a thought though. I was talking to a painter the other week about my 5 & he said you should wait a good week or 2 before fitting decals to allow something to happen in the new paint (cant remember what exactly, evaporation of a chemical maybe??) don't know if he was talking sense or not but its something to bear in mind. Don't want bubbles appearing in those nice new stickers.
Actually this ^ could be right, the paint will need to cure for a little while. Certainly something I would double check.
Car looks amazeing mate
cheers for all the positive comments
nice one for the heads up on the paint curing ill have a word later and see whats what
she looks really nice and fresh blunty well done .. how straight are the doors ?, mine still have some ripples in, even after so much prep
Oh yes!
just thought id keep anyone whos interested up to date with things.
car was originally going back up to my mates (gt motorsport) today but its had to be put on hold until tomorrow or the very latest wednesday.
went round to my mate at gt motorsport on way from work, my car is going up there first thing in the morning, decals being fitted thursday, then odds and sods, get it taken for mot and tax it. Ill be giving it a good coat of waxoyl on saturday morning as well.
looking fresh blunty - coming along very quickly the last few weeks
cheers james
decals being fitted tomorrow, then it just needs side skirts fitting and it can go for m.o.t which it should pass easily so ill be able tax it on saturday.
also going to waxoyl it on saturday morning and refit my flocked door cards, give it a good clean inside then its ready to rock (i hope)
one side of my decals have been fitted, she wanted me go up and check i was happy with them before doing the other side.
anyone that knows me off here or over on facebook will know i suffer with a bad back quite alot and yet again its giving me alot of problems, but needless to say i will still be going to waxoyl my car tomorrow morning before the other sides decals are fitted.
looking good
cheers roy hopefully get some pics of the decals fitted tomorrow
nice one andy! Nearly there pal, defo a car to be proud of right there mate, hope your backs ok soon fella
thanks alot andy i am very proud of it, everyone else thinks im nuts though for saving it .
had a terrible nights sleep backs no better but ill go and get amongst it today then ill probably be wrote off all weekend.
hows your car coming on i hope i had an hand in convincing you to stick with it
great stuff andy glad you have stuck with it
i managed to fully waxoyl the car and we also made a new fuel reserve tank support strap as mine was knackered.
onto the decals everything was going fine all fitted and looked the business and then we come to remove the protective covers off them all i can say is it wouldnt hardly budge even with some heat on them, so it looks as if im going have to remove them and have the bottoms of my doors etc re painted not happy at all
noooo.
hope they come off without to much hassle so that you dont have to repaint. do you know what material has been used for the decals as i can ask the lads in the sign shop at work what will be the best way to remove without to much damage. always a pain when things dont go to plan
Was the paint not hard enough or are the decals at fault mate, big shame if this has to end up back at the painters due to crap decals
its just the protective top film thats the problem, it should in theory peel away fairly easily but it just wont budge and the bits that did were leaving glue behind on the decal and obviously with it being so hard to remove was going to lift the actual decal
as you might see from the decal group buy thread, its a balls up on the person who was fitting my decals part as there is no protective film to remove so that one piece has to be removed then painted as no doubt it will remove paint, then refit that one decal
yes anything similar to this iv always seen to have a film over them.
bit of an update topcat is sending me another passenger door decal up, what a top fella he is and a real credit to this club.
I also went the pub last night and car painter was there, he is going to sort the passenger door free of charge which is really good of him and its going in monday morning.
im at neither unfortunately matey my car wont be ready for them my mate goes in for heart surgery on tuesday so nothing more will be done on the car until hes back in work.
i had made decision not to be doing nd weekend quite a bit ago, if it would of been original date then id of made it no probs, got so much happening early/mid july something had to give.
defo see it in the flesh one day fella, and thanks iv just been up to wish him luck.
popped up to gt motorsport where my car is living until last few bits are done, will prob be next couple of weeks before it will be finished.
i started getting rid of any old bits and rubbish out my car then decided to make a start on cleaning the engine up only had a quick wipe over with a microfibre still got to polish the metal bits and clean up the hoses.
also gotta tidy the engine bay up a few things can be got rid of etc.
