Will keep an eye on this, its a bit different.
More work over the week end....
Abs and power steering? Whats going on ha
Im getting old
Nice project. Are you using gtx/Monaco pwr stg setup? Clio abs/ecu?
Looks like a nice project. Have you fitted the Williams track yet? Did you have to do any both mods for clearance?
Hi all,
Quick update on the 5 build. Its now road worthy I've uploaded some pictures for you and info to go with them....
Basic set up is a R5 with clio RSI/16v running gear, power steering, wider track, ABS and electrics + extra's.
Basic car.
Its running a B18FT engine with the power steering pump still attached, Williams 3 (phase 2) modified wiring loom to B18ft with both ecu's bolted in the scuttle area next to battery. The subframe is Clio RSI with the clio power steering rack. 16v/RSI lower arms, ARB, Hubs, ABS drive shafts and RSI gearbox.
Brakes. ( ABS )
ABS modulator from a Clio RSI mounted in scuttle area, big front disc conversion, Modified williams 3 clock for ABS light, Manual rear bias valves. The theory is that if i lock the rear end up with too much bias the ABS will rescue me!! I tested the ABS last night in the dry and f*ck me does the car stop over the moon with the results from this mod....
Wide track.
Clio subframe from RSI with lower arms, ABS shafts, Hubs etc. Clio RSI Rear beam. Front width was 1323mm and is now 1358mm. Upper strut tops holes redrilled 17.5mm further out and hole cut for koni adjuster access. Ream beam was 1311mm and is now 1324mm. everything just bolted on with the rear arches slightly shaved It handles ACE on the road
Power steering.
Clio RSI rack with pump on the B18FT engine running it. modified rear engine mount but that needs changing as its cut though one of the pipes Its a pleasure to drive with the power steering and the feedback is very good
Dash board.
Clio 16v dash with williams dials. running original heater box grafted to clio dash. had to fabricate 4 new mounting points for the dash and shave some plastic off the dash top, it fits very well and does'nt rattle either The heater temp control is backward now though ( Cold is now hot )
Electrics.
All the looms are Clio RSI.
I plan to bring this car to the National Day in July so you guys can have a nose around it.
Any questions you guys have just fire away
No pic of the exhaust Nick Cracking work
Had a dig for the badge today, wasn't attached to my spare boot lid as thought. Not giving up though, got a few more places to check still. Will keep you posted.
I'm just waiting for that exhaust blue roll holder picture to get uploaded
I can't believe how awesome this is! Really fantastic work.
What is that steering wheel? It looks like it's a slightly updated and then modded GTT wheel but I can see it's not. Looks aftermarket with the GTT centre patched on.
What's next for the car once these upgrades are settled in?
Great work mate, look forward to seeing this at ND, cheeky turbo gauge intergrated into williams dials
like the modern upgrades you have added, looking at power steering options on mine at the moment..
Great work Nick.
A-W-E-S-O-M-E work there Nick!! Just goes to show that there's still some new tricks that can be done to these old dogs now!! (No reference to the paint job )
Even more impressive is the fact that you literally finished bolting it all together the day of the Sangliers trip and drove it to & from Belgium with pretty much no issues!!
As you know I'm planning on fitting the power steering to ST-Cup but i'm also interested in many of your other modifications and think they would work well? Might be asking Ketnology to assist somewhat....!
Just one complaint though, the Ghia reference is for Fords , this should be the Project 5 Turbo Monaco/Initiale/Dynamique/
Nice work there mate. Im defo going power steering soon. Just looking for a good monaco for spares.
That is one fast build turn around, well done!
As I've said in my build thread, power steering is the next must have mod!
Good point Steve. GT Turbo Ghia is not right. Not sure about the suggestions though
It can't be say a 'GTX Turbo', as that implies it was a 5 GTX with a bolt-on and 'GT Turbo X' doesn't look quite right either. 'GT Turbo R' implies race when the additions are as much about the improved luxury spec as anything.
Alpine, Gordini, Cup don't really work in this case either.
could you add power steering to any GT Turbo?
does that dash fit straight in - looks really good
heres pic nick and pm for you
Maybe 'Alpine' would work after all (Jun 2012):
"Renault may revive the Alpine marque to offer sports cars and create another high-end brand to sell luxury models, Chief Operating Officer Carlos Tavares said in an interview last week at the French automaker’s headquarters in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt."
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...fade-cars.html
Could it not be the 'Renault 5 trubo L'
L reminds me of bottom of the range Escorts from the 80's and early 90's.
'Trubo L' (trubol) = trouble
I saw the typo but didn't realise it was intended so didn't notice the joke in it.
Good work nick ;-) the more the better, I'm just finish in my b18ft conversion so watch this space pal
in theory yes you can fit power steering to any gt, its how you approach it. the mechanical pump as i've used or there's an electric pump which is the easier option taken from something like a saxo.
The dash is not a straight fit, iv'e had to use the clio steering column also as they are different, weld in 4 new mounting brackets, shave the top lid down and have a scrap with the heater duct work. its in, it works and looks good but its not a easy job at all.
That's funny!
Nice thread retitle
What about Baccara!
http://www.renault5baccara.nl/html/Foto_Baccara.htm
Actually, I can't believe of all the colours chosen by folk when rebuilding GTTs the Monaco/Baccara colour has never been chosen. It's absolutely lush and would look awesome with the GTT kit and a nice set of wheels.
Actually, I think one person in the entire world might have done it, in Turkey, lol. Although this is a GTT kit applied to an original Baccara rather than the colour applied to a GTT.

Sorry for the thread hijack

That's awesome bit of work there mate, always thought about bolting the lot from a Clio to the front of a 5.
One thing you may be able to help me with though, how did you wire the Clio wiper stalk to the 5 loom? Or did you use the clio loom behind the dash?
I used the whole RSI loom in the 5 and rewired the plugs on the end for the 5 bits like heater and wiper motor. I actually fu*ked up the heater initially and speed 3 was 1 etc the wiper motor plug had 5 wires all different colours to the 5 loom colours, that was a pure guess and it worked first time More luck than skill....... I can tell you what the clio wires to 5 wires are on the loom mark..
