What can i change on a efi c1j witout having a remap. Example exhaust etc etc?
What can i change on a efi c1j witout having a remap. Example exhaust etc etc?
depends really, to make use of the mod you would really need to get it mapped, tho an exhaust shouldnt make that much difference
well i have an efi engine, out of john s old bb tuning car.It made {around} 225hp at 22psi. I just feel its wasting efi if you dont run more power/psi than this. You can achieve this with the engines i already use on carb. Just dont want to shell out for bb's fastchip software or remap to achieve this.
your not going to gain much without the ability to remap it
I know this in my head but my pockets are saying anyway around it.bb want 350 notes for the software (fastchip) windows based. But then i have to find someone who can use it to map it.
I wanted to use my own head i have as bb headwork is totally crapper. But we got to think about £to bhp.
This wouldnt of been a problem if bb didnt want 800 quid for a remap rip off merchants.
I have a software disc for R-Tuner and Tewblog if that helps?
Do BB still support Fastchip/R-tuner then???
I bought a fastchip R-tuner from Dave Gentleman many moons ago.....it never worked by the way!!!
So, I spoke to Henk, (the guy in the Netherlands who built the ecu) about it.....he doesn't support it any more......
Nearly!!
It was 'Lucky' on the old site.....
How is the data transfer done, via a rs232 or a USB?
I seem to remember a video on Youtube, of a car being set-up at BB.......the page looks the same as my R-Tuner software....
I have a Fastchip R-Tuner ECU, it uses the diagnostic port on the car, being a Clio 16v, you only need to plug into 3 wires....a live, an earth and the flash code reader connection pins 2, 6 and 9 on the obd port....
You are more than welcome to copy my software mate.....
I remember when I was looking at fastchip a few years ago, the ecu will already have the fastchip hardware installed, you just need to make yourself the interface cable and run the software. i don't think they ever had password protection on the maps (as a lot of standalone's do) so you should be fine. I don't know if it's a plain rs232 lead you need to make or if perhaps you need a rs232<->ttl lead or an obd lead. maybe someone who uses r-tuner can pipe up
ill try and get some pics up to show you what ive got.cheers.
no dont have a wiring diag mate(pants)!!
Do you still live in tonbridge?
Live in Tunbridge Wells/Pembury.
Work in Tonbridge.
At work Sat morning.....(even more pants!).
Cool, look forwrd to it!
Your an AA man right?
If you ever drop anything off at Lifestyle Renault in Tonbridge....ask for Matt the RTE. (Thats ME!)
Still doing pencil coils now, keep them in stock on my van.
Hows the 5 going? Pressure reg on mines no good after a hard drive, not bad going though 20 odd years old.

some pics of the wires and the ecu.
grey wire states/diagnostics.
green wire/feed for later?pin 10
white with grey stripe/speed signal pin3
reddish brown wire/pin 22
Any one can tell me what the wires all exactly are for,i know there for mapping. Also what i need to connect it up to my laptop.Cheers.
from my 16v ecu wiring diagram, I have:
pin, function
---------------
1, ground
2, ground
3, speed sensor (not essential)
4, battery live
5, idle solenoid
6, to fuel pump relay (other side of relay coil to ignition live)
7, injection relay (other side of relay coil to ignition live)
8, not used
9, TPS input
10, to cold start injector (other side of injector to fuel pump live)
11, TDC sensor
12, not used
13, DIAGNOSTICS
14, MAT
15, coolant sensor
16, +5v for TPS and MAP sensors
17, GND for TPS and MAP sensors
18, DIAGNOSTICS
19, feed from injection relay
20, batch injector output
21, batch injector output
(note: pin 20 and 21 are connected together)
22, not used
23, idle control valve
24, idle control valve
25, PAS input
26, ???
27, ignition output (to coil)
28, TDC sensor
29, to starter exciter
30, not used
31, knock sensor
32, knock sensor
33, MAP input
35, O2 sensor
Thr R-Tuner uses the OBD port, so you will need to connect the interface/fly lead to a 12v feed an earth and OBD connection...Pin 13.
Ill photo my stuff on Sunday evening for you Newbstar.
where would i get the fly lead from.Would i need to rig a obd socket or will the lead eliminate this.grey lead had diagnostics on it so must go to pin 13, also had a bullet connector on the end of it.
Am i right in saying you have software that works or not matt.
Cheers jason.
I think R-tuner uses serial data on the diagnostic pins but you'd still need some kind of ttl/RS232 converter I guess. does the RX and TX data all happen on the 1 pin (pin 13 ?) what is the protocol they use normally, is it CAN or K-line, etc ? I don't know much about this R-tuner lark as you can tell, but its interesting though.
Well, matt5 uses this too, hopefully his pics will shead some more light on it tommorow.Im sure ill get there in the end, this will definately open the doors on things i want to change on the engine.
I found a copy of the R-tuner install manual, I uploaded it here
https://www.rtoc.org/files/Technical%...ner_manual.pdf
it uses pins 8 and 18 for serial data. you need an RS232 converter as imagined, shown in a picture in that manual. matt, do you have one of those ? it looks like a real simple ttl to rs232 converter
cheers, just read it.Its the ecu there talking about is a williams.I think thats why my pin number on the 4 wires i have are different to that.my one must be 1800 16v clio ecu.really helpul though down scrappy to get diag connector.
if you need to know what pins are what on the obd2 16pin socket, just ask me.
i have the latest autodata, latest bosch ESI tronic software, latest tecnomotor software etc etc on my laptop. i know for a fact the bosch lists the pin outs.
will do sparkie.
scoff the numbers to the wires i've given in the tread are from the loom wires( bb labelled them).Little confused now , as there pin numbers dont match up to what we are looking at only pin 13 diag wire matches.Shouldnt be too hard only 4 wires though.
I don't know what BB have done, but the manual is saying that pin 8 of the ECU (normally un-used) gets used for RX data I think. you join pin 8 to pin 18. Pin 18 is TX data so both get mixed onto the 1 wire, which should come out on the OBD socket somewhere. this is what you connect to the PC interface, along with power and gnd like matt says.
Maybe BB have used a different un-used pin, like maybe they used pin 10 instead of pin 8 for the RX data, leaving the cold start off ? I don't know, you'd have to open the ECU up and compare what they've done with what it suggests you do in that manual.
Bollox........had a **** day today, I'll do photos Monday night.
I seem to remember a rumour that the fly lead and chip where paired......not too convinced as obviously BB re-map all cars via R-tuner.......
The Tewblog program looks interesting too. I have the R-tuner manual and the Tewblog manual as a hard printable copy and as software file.......
The cutting and joining of wires is only for williams.........all I can remember is.........a brown and a grey wire being wired together and one pin of the ECU isolated.........
If I can fire up my OLD OLD OLD laptop I can poss. tell you more...........
andy is talking about your map sensor I guess. those ecu's have something like a 12x12 grid for the map. I think most of the R-tuner cars used a 2.5bar map sensor (22psi boost) so any more than that will max out the map sensor. if you were to run a 3 bar sensor then a) you will need to adjust the whole map and b) the resolution will be pretty poor, it might be hard to get good afr's around idle and low load's.
cool matt ill think ill open up the ecu and see if any mods have been done.like in the rtuner manual.been to ipswich today to drop a car off tow! Then done a lotus uropa with renault engine ii it ,mechanical fuel pump sha**ed. Then a crappy 911 immobiliser not switching fully so no feed to starter solenoid.
This is the fly-lead.........
Hang on...I'll see if I can lighten it up a bit............Give me 5 mins.......
some high def shots of each side would be handy of possible matt, so that I could see what it was doing and draw a diagram from it. it won't be paired to the ECU
Any better..............
where would i get one from mat. What colour wires do yours link up to?
Dunno, Newb.........
But if Scoff can make one.............
The wires are......
Green = diagnose signal (pin 18 ECU) OBD pin 9
Brown = ground/earth OBD pin 2
Yellow = +12v OBD 6
ERM.............
Could always post it to you if you post it back???
