after....
noticed the carb was fitted with a 140 main jet so im in need of a 120 main if anybody has one before cgb has my pants down...
What did you use to get the carb that clean?
looks goood lee i like that golf on your profile aswel
I'm not a fan of dump valves mate- but think a modded 5 with Samcos would look odd without one- I'd defo listen to what trev said about swapping yours for a diaphragm valve
Looking for ward to seeing this baby in the flesh
cheers for the advice guys
i just want it on the road now
its been a few weeks now and iv been mega busy at work but still making progress. iv decided to stop buyin things for the car as i have run out of storage space in my toolbox
new parts are: clutch cable, throttle cable, genuine oil filter, more samcos, braided oil cooler pipes, new braided oil feed pipe, strut brace, k tec lobster, new auxilery belt, dizzy cap and rotor arm, standard thermostat, wideband kit, exhaust heatwrap, some new tyres and some waxyoil! might have missed some parts too...
also member mattv6 kindly gave me some standard speedlines which will be fitted later in the year!
clean up well, but their days are numbered once the standard speedlines are refurbd
How's it all going matey? U finished welding now?
You love that motor
arches waxyoiled but shes cryin out for some new shockers... discs should clean up
Get in touch with mike mate- he's got good second hand shockers at good money- I have a set from him.
Wish u had a pic of u after u wax oiled lol
haha Davo last week mate i had it all over my arms hands and even on my chin its not so bad in the arches but the underside is a messy job
not done any more welding at the moment mate, need a full day off so i can start the passenger sill, but the missus keeps gettin in the way
Ha I got caked in it when I done mine.
I got it everywhere. Sticks like **** to a mattress lol. Does the mrs like the car? I'm lucky mine loves going out in it. She thinks its uber comfy.
She gonna be ready for the summer?
Love it
Another 5 going back on Speedlines
plenty of room and its not to bad.did mine under jacks,i covered the area where the spare wheel sits, but im a painter so its not to tricky for me.
as for the g/f........................give her some money and tell her to get a pair of shoes or a dress, they might not need one but cause it looks nice in the shop she will buy it wear it once then prob never wear it again ..............
engine bay coming together at last
plans for the end of the year are to remove engine etc and get the bay lookin pristine, buy some black samcos... but for now the noddy style colours will do
welded the lambda bung in ready for the wideband kit... big thanks to a customer at work for the lambda bung, came off a nissan almera, just before the pikeys took the scrap metal
fitted the downpipe looks great then disaster struck
started removing the front struts and one of the 13mm bolts snapped... ok not the end of the world but to top it off i then decided to clean up the spark plugs (it had a 140 main before so i guessed they would be in poor condition)
plug nearest the water pump was insecure and had signs of it blowing past, and suprise suprise it wont nip up so i have bought a thread restorer but if that doesnt work then i will be very very gutted here is what iv bought that will hopefully save the day....
I once Helicoiled a spark plug hole with the engine still in and bolted together Selotaped a straw to the end of the hoover and sucked all the swarf out the bore rough as but did the job that engine died shortly after for some strange reason
ok sorted the spark plug issue, my mate came over and hellicoiled it Nick K style
so back to the welding now...
stripped passenger side sill today and jacking point.. plating the floor pan with thicker steel where i left a hole it was too soft to save
heres a few pics
Good good glad it was ok
Ooooh gangnam style mate proper pushing it through now son!
Did u drop the fuel tank to do the rear bumper stop?
Good to see new metal welded in making it solid again
cheers lads, if there is one thing iv learnt from this restoration, its to never do one again! im sick of cutting and preppin... give me a spanner anyday...
Davo, its easier with the filler neck out the way but i left the tank in sitchu
[QUOTE=LeeR5GTT;320426]cheers lads, if there is one thing iv learnt from this restoration, its to never do one again! im sick of cutting and preppin... give me a spanner any day
