    Genuine Renault towing eye cover

I've been getting messages from Big Steve and Bigfoot (is that a coincidence? ) who were both after original towing eye covers... apparently they're hard to get or order in the UK?
Anyway... it's no problem at all over here, so if anyone else wants one... gimme a shout and I'll order it for you. They're €10,55 and P&P will be about €1,50 or so...

    Yes unpainted, unprimed mates...

I've already ordered one for Big Steve, which should arrive on Monday. I'll wait for that one before ordering the rest, okay? Should there be problems or unavailability, I'll let you know asap. If not, I'll go ahead with the "mass order"

Why do people need or want two?????

The same things going to happen to these towing eye covers that happened to the Gearknob's if Jan can get hold of them!?

Although i'm at the front of the que, i'm still doubtful that Renault NL will be able to source some??

Re: Genuine Renault towing eye cover

These used to be available from CGB for about £5 plus postage so am guessing he's all out then. They do indeed come unpainted etc. Which was great for me since it went straight on the Ph1 although far too light a colour, which is weird.

Ah, the phase 2 bumpers are a light version of "phase 1" when you buy them new, I guess the towing eye cover would have been destined for a phase 2 but was un-primered.

Re: Genuine Renault towing eye cover

You'd think so Chris but I bought a brand new Ph2 front bumper for my car from Paul B in 2005 and when it came I was really pleased to see that it was dark. Darker in fact than the rest of my kit (without some trim shine that is). When the towing eye cover arrived subsequently, it was far lighter than the bumper and certainly lighter than the rest of the arch kit. I rubbed something or other into it to bring it into line

Btw, you can see in my profile pics how dark the bumper is. I haven't touched it. It just came out of the wrapper and went straight on. I was very pleased indeed for £60.

Actually, in my pics you can see the edges of the tow eye cover where the stuff I rubbed on is coming away at the edges slightly.

I work in Injection Moulding & know many toolmakers but i know for a fact that a mold tool to manufacture these & the associated moulding costs would be prohibitive.

Our best bet is to get a towing eye cover off someone then make a vac form mould of it, then just make resin replications of them????

Who's going to offer one up for reproduction.......

Thinking about it, wouldnt it be easier for Ashy to CNC Machine one from a billet of plastic?

Would need to be something that we can paint though or use etch primer?

There are a fair few options dependant on volume . All is possible and some mould tooling can be done very cheaply ,but you're still talking a fair few hundreds ................+ the moulding and moulding setup charges .
Rapid proto SLS .....A laser solidifies the shape in a tank of plastic resin .This has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years .I can model up a unit in 3D given a sample and then the worlds your lobster ,the more the cheaper .
I model up a lot of O gauge trains for a local outfit and they also do their own resin stuff for lower quantities ..
Send me an original and I'll check it out

Re: Genuine Renault towing eye cover

I used to mold replica Tamiya model car parts which was pretty inexpencive.

Infact I still have enough to make a mold of the part and would just need resin.

I would definately give some a go for the club if needed. I am trying to find some pics of the parts I made before.

Again it would need someone to offer up an original part to copy?.

Just food for thought if everyone gets stuck

Weird. I'm starting to think mine came from a particular batch or new supplier or whatever. I do remember Paul saying that he checked it out in its packaging when it arrived and said it was certainly one of the better ones he's seen stating that the finish was very god in comparison to many. Mine didn't have any primer on it. Maybe it's the primer that makes it a lighter grey?
