Before I get agg from Scott/Bigfoot and co, I know this is a renault turbo forum but...
Anyone own or use the new transit? I'm going to buy a brand spanking new one, but before I do are they any good?

Bigfoot (Fail Dale) can give you all the information on Tranny's you'll ever need!
The hangover part 2 I swear I saw Dale in the end credits!
Mercs and fords having a worrying amount of rust on them way before you'd expect it..
If you get one, grab a pot of waxoyl..
Yeah neighbour has a merc, and got the paint warranty on it, they were blaming stone chips to the amount of rust on the van, but they were chips on the roof of the vehicle
Ah cool, that's good to know. I've never owned a brand new vehicle before- it'll be my pride and joy. Any particular areas to oil in particular?
Thanks for the advice
I was told by the Old Bill that the new transit vans are the easiest to break into as I had my reno traffic van broken into a month ago.
The whole thing really.. As above the plumbers sprinter was crying orange from behind the door bump strips, fuel filler and I've seen it on a few. The fords scab anywhere and everywhere and it's not the odd one..
Have a google as there might be some threads of pure hate on various forums.
I have an old R reg hi ace 170k and still going strong, only rust is from damage.. Some manufacturers get it right, some don't seem to want to..
I had one from new and i did 150 000 in it and it was always in with engine light on egr fault it had a clutch twice but did alot of towing in fairness but my mate had one doing the same as mine and it was great his had clutchs aswell but otherwise good luck of the draw i guess
I was told the duratorq engines are bullet proof, the common rail diesels are pants then? Egr valve kept coming up on mine
I think the last of the old shape trannys were really good extremley realiable we had them when i was working on heavy plant allways fully loaded great van and we where working in open cast mines and sites allways gettin a hard life and they were faultless i work on alot of renault vans now and i think there realiable we look after 30 odd
It's just a tough decision I have on my hands, do I go cheap for a duratorq transit- about £2000 or go brand new and spend a fortune on a van which has average reviews
Its a gamble mate whatever you do at least you have warrenty on a new van but its no good if its always at ford it is a hard choice
Yeah you're spot on there mate. I'm gonna sleep on it I think.
I try a lot of vans at my work, my personal favourite is a Transit, feels a lot more alive and willing than all the others. 2nd favourite is the Sprinter, nice driving position and handles quite well for a van. VW Crafter is basically a Sprinter but without the extra goodies. I wouldn't get the Renault Master or the Vauxhall Movable, the doors don't seem to take any abuse and are hard to shut after a few years and the drive doesn't compare to others. Ldv vans are pretty awful. I would be happy to recommend a Transit, some models have a surprising amount of pull
Thanks mate, I've been offered a cheap and cheerful alternative- so going to view it before I go down the finance thing- I hate monthly payments. Lol
Just googled a new shape tranny but can't see myself getting in the back of one.
