Well it finally runs
just got my b18ft running on megasquirt, is there anyone here who can tune/ live map a megasquirt ecu or has experience using tuner studio as i have no idea where to start

cheers james, looks like it was just the ****e renault tdc sensor giving me probs changed it to one of scoffs and it fired straight away, if only i had done that sooner
Just need it tuned now
Take a look on diyautotune, extraefi.co.uk, msextra.com etc.
Or else why don't you go to Scoff and get it done properly the first time
What is your setup exactly? Did you build the MS yourself or did you buy it pre-built?
I want to make MS in my original ecu case (f7)
bought the ecu built, added launch control(dont know if it works yet) added a knock-tek box to the ecu and a few other little other bits. tacho output still wont work but il sort it.
I cut up the old volvo loom and used the plugs for the sensors and wired them to the short loom for the ecu.
yes matey using that map but it seems a bit rich at idle and dosnt really want to start you have to give it some throttle and nurse it off or it will stall.
I havnt let it warm up completly so it may get better when warm and the enrichment needs a bit of tuning but i dont know.
I have made a small datalog of the car running for about 1min anyone know how i can post it up for people to look at to see what they think of it to see if it looks about right
Do you know if your board has any extra options?
Like VR conditioner for instance?
Your flywheel is also renix 44-2-2 or is the volvo flywheel different?
dont know what you mean by vr conditioner but its a ms1 v3 ecu with the vr sensor directly wired to it.
standard volvo 215mm flywheel 60-2pattern
Vr conditioner is a seperate board which plugs into the main board to strengthen the signal.
But by the reading of it with Scoff's sensor it works
Does the idle afr meet it's target when warm? If so maybe your wue is too high.
But beleive me mate, have a read at the websites above and you'll be able to set yourself a good base setup!
oh ok no separate board and works fine using scoffs vr sensor.
I have been sent a decent base map but it needs fine tuning for my engine so really need someone with a better knowledge of me to get the most i can out of it.
:quote: Does the idle afr meet it's target when warm? If so maybe your wue is too high. :quote:
I havnt let the engine warm up properly yet to find out. what do you mean by "wue"?
Warm up enrichement. Maybe if the ve table is set correctly but the wue is set too high it will run far too rich during warm-up.
But seriously, have a read at extraefi.co.uk and just follow the steps.
The initial settings and first startup are described step by step...
Cheers matey il have a good read up on it. It is a map tuned for my enging basicly my setup so won't be that far out so like you say maybe just the wue that needs tuning then.
Also sorted out the ms shadow dash and shadow logger so can view and log on the phone when the laptop isn't really needed anymore.
Get it warmed up first. If you have the current firmware wue is a percentage of the normal map.
So if you go messing with the wue now you'll probably mess it up when tuning the ve table.
Ok I havnt Changed anything yet as I have no idea about tuning the ve tables.
So now its running is it only the be tables I have to play with when its warm. Then when I'm happy there I can do the cold start and warm up enrichment then. If so seems quite simple
Indeed, however cold start and wue is the same thing.
You could shut down wue too to be sure you're only tuning the ve
Yeah looked like it was off and it is a percentage but it was silly rich. Think the throttle needs adjusting as it ticks over at 600rpm so may be able to lean idle out a bit with that.
cheers matey have had a good read of that still need to read it a few more times before it all goes in
looks like im nearly there though
By the answers it sounds like i know it all but tbh all i know is learnt from reading on the net
well youre doing better than me and have been a great help
I have been reading those sites and there is a lot to take in but its only fine tuning to get it run smoothly.
A good basemap is 50% of the work.
Always good to hear another EFI car is up and running. I'm still having spark issues?
it has just come in my mind that you don't want to change idle fuel too much. if it's far out try playing with the req_fuel first.
the chance will be big you finally have it idling good and the rest of the ve table is too rich too.
Are you using standard vr sensor? If so do away with it and fit one of scoffs ones I was getting a poor cranking signal with standard One. Have you turned the pots fully counter clockwise? If you're using standard coil you need to go straight to coil and do away with the plug on the bracket or you'll need to wire in a pull up resistor for it.
I'm already using one of Scoffs VR Sensors but I'm running EDIS. I know that the current trend is to directly run the coil from MS but, I want to get the EDIS set up running first.
If ur using edis it will be completely different so ignore what I just said
got the engine idling well by upping the req fuel then dropping it when warm. main thing i noticed is that the afr gauge will read something like 13afr and the megasquirt will show 12afr I have tried a few of the settings in tunerstudio for what lambada sensor i have (innovate lc-1) and still isnt right
you can calibrate it somewhere, don't know how atm but it's possible.
beleive the innovate though!
I have been going by the innovate gauge only prob is that i think as the megasquirt thinks its different to what it is so it injects a different amount of fuel. I have asked same question on msextra so hopefully they will know what to do.
it won't if you don't have EGO correction on
Ah is that the adjustment to account for the time taken for the gas to get to the Kannada? If so I havnt touched that, il have a fiddle with it when I get some more tome to play cars
No, EGO (exhaust gas oxygen) correction is just like the normal lambda does only then for the complete range of load/revs.
Ah ok il have a look at it.
right i have the spark map tuned ok but when the engine is idling the dot on the map will sit where i want it at 10deg but the gauge in tunerstudio will read 20 odd deg Does this mean my timing is out? If so is there something on megasquirt that can account for this or is it a case of me moving the tdc sensor along a bit? or drop the whole map 9-10 deg and try to remember they dont match up?
In spark settings, the fixed degree is -10 if this was -20.
would this sort the problem? or is it completely unrelated?

ok tried that and tuner studio wouldn't let me so cant be that.
all sorted now
timing was a million miles out Ran at a fixed 10 degrees and using a timing light my mark at tdc was nowhere near visible through the gearbox casing. ended up changing the triggerangle from 60 to 39
sits lovely at 10 deg now at a nice 900rmp and all the gauges now match up
How's it going atm?
I almost have my 9 running on MS now, only need to sort the trigger. I don't get any signal at all
Yeah running well just needs the maps sorting out a bit more but can't drive it yet so can't map it under load until I mot and insure it.
Have you wound the two pots out fully clockwise? What vr sensor are you using? How is it wired to the ms?
I will post up a pix when I can get to it of a wiring diagram that I have edited to make it easier to understand.
It's counter clockwise but yeah i have them fully ccw, it's just something that's not right, i'm sure!
I'm using the original renault item, i know it's not perfect but atleast o should get some signal!
That's what I ment that's what I thought about it but changed it for a scoff one and fired up first time.
Try fitting it lower for a start.
