Youve dun a cracking job on that James good work!
Cracking car this mate i think it looks really tidy
Lovely.
Really coming on this keep the hard work up.
Progressing nicely mate!
They look in mint condition mate! Nice one wot size are they?
Yeah they look mint. I think either of those colours would look mint against silver bud. Looking forward to having a butchers round the old girl tmoro
Good to see you today James, cars looking cracking, should defo get them together sometime cheers for the bits aswell, let me know about that bumper
Looking good mate, will look great with all your new hoses on
Got borred tonight so decided Id have a look at the condition of the battery tray and what other hidden surprizes id find underneath.
Well the tray is knackered and I need a new one! No surprize there, but with the amount of rust i was conserned id need to replace all the metal underneath but luckly it just had a little surface rust which has now been rubbed back, crust'd and then undersealed.
Few pics of tonights work.
There is light at the end of the tunnel mate.....you'll get there
Well after National Day and deciding to go OE - ive been busy cleaning up the bay of the 5. A troublesome water inlet on the manifold has stopped progress but after a few days work the car is coming together nicely.
Some pics as always
Looking good buddie I even used auto glym under the bonnet not because I'm a shiny boy just because it cut through the greese hey I like the red one in front of yours
Looking great James, much fresher and new header tank really helps, good wrk buddy
Cheers Guys! Alot of autoglym got used on cleaning the bay up. Not perfect but 100% better than it was. Plus no rust
I managed to get one manifold inlet out but other has just chewed up, so will try an easy out later this week else its take inlet manifold off!
I rubbed the oil feed pipes from the radiator down with very fine sand paper as they are alloy and they came up sweet.. And the fan motor cover.. You could take the actuator off to and spray it black to tidy it up abit.. Or get another actuator I'm sure johnny5 was selling one cheap.. See if you could get that boost up a touch I took all my manifold off when I did the headgasket it would be a pig to get off on its own I think.. Once you start cleaning it's hard to stop
Speak to johnny mate I'm sure he only wanted £20 and you have done brilliantly bud.. It was the most honest untouched 5 Iv ever seen and in very dry condition... Not too many of them around mate
No progress of late as been busy with other things.
However Mike GT TURBO SPARES sorted me out with some top quality parts this week the gem being the hot air feed below cant thank him enogth ! Thought id never get one!
so hopefully next month she will be all back together and OE under the bonnet.
Big thanks today to Jon 5279 for getting the 5 back together today - top guy
Car is now running a couple of issues found but may have sorted these but will have to wait till i take car out for another run.
Looks lovely and OE under the bonnet
Somebody's had there marigolds on so much cleaner now bud so what you two been doing to old silver? General service? Looking great bud blue was never your color anyway. What's next?
Well we - well minly Jon drilled and retapped inlet manifold for new inlets, changed all manifold bolts to new binx ones. Fitted enlarged turbo elbow. Then put all breather pipe system together, refitted carburetor and then bled the coolant. Took her for a run which was good. Had an issue with top radiator hose where the bleed nipple is leaking . Will try a new bleed nipple in and see if that cures it.
As for future plans - an under bonnet lining is required next.
Looking really good mate
you have been busy mate its looking really good so what you planning on doin next
Little bit of ptfe tape on the bleed screw should sort it.
Will chase up hoses from Roose motorsport, he has some very good bled pipes in the pipeline.
Big thanks to mike aka GT TURBO SPARES for getting me these!
Under bonnet linning and a correct model OE stereo next on the list!
I'm sure I sore the lining on eBay today think its cgb for £99
The one i messaged you about James sold for £16 + £15 postage but was very tatty!
Nice find with the mats mate, its all about the little details
love this it looks great, i have not seen many silver ones but really like it
Nice find there mate, it's gona be a lovely oe example with all these bits on it
oh and i forgot to say if you are considering the grey flocked door cards i have a full set in my car and its one of the best parts, they are nicer than standard and if you were not in the know about Renaults you would think they came from the factory.
Hi James, I am pleased you are happy with them. I maybe able to help with the Under bonnet lining and a correct model OE stereo after this weekend.
Thanks
Mike!
Mats fitted after a quick clean!
Did you buy this car from Roger in twickenham?
Edit. I just noticed you mention Roger in your first post. He lives the street behind my parents house. He owned that car from new and took pretty good care of it, it's good to see it staying standard and not being ruined by modifications.

Well was woken up at 7:30am this morning with the return of my R5.
So today was spent, stripping the kit off plus removing the interior.
Steering collum is completelly knackered plus theres a really weird smokey smell in the car. No electrics work - possibly flat battery.
Thats progress no for the time being, probably new year now before any restoration work is carried out.
