Project Gordon dini started today - cleaned up all the paintwork. Looks stunning now it's clean. Lots more work to do on it though.... Watch this space!
Took a few starter pics to wet your appetite
before restoration
Cleaned up the interior today - came up well. Lots more to do on it though....
Had the GT and Gordini out tonight.
Never seen mossy grin so much!!!!
Serviced gordini today - oil, filter (blooming hard to get at..), flushed coolant and renewed with Renault premixed and changed spark plugs. Guy who helped me is in the Renault owners club and has a few classics on his driveway!
Cleaned the engine - gearbox came up well. Cleaned the carb out and sorted the wiring (needed tidying up). Looking a million times better now :approve:
New ht leads and distributor cap to order and fit.
Think I've also found a supplier of suspension too!
Before :s
After :approve:
Cleaned up the underside of the car and shifted 32 years of gunk, oil and grit!! Lovely. Caroline said I looked like I had been working down the pit tonight. Anyway. Bottom of the car is now very clean and the arches have been done too - ready for painting.
Gear box came up very well. Love the way it is mounted at the front.
A bonus was that I had an oil leak which I thoght might be from the sump gasket - however, whilst cleaning I found that the oil feed pipe to the turbo had split and was leaking oil on boost. Swapped it over - very fiddle though. But should be Oil free now....
Found a supplier of shocks and top wishbones but I'm tempted to go for konis all round. Omp are getting back to me about an exhaust. And so the work begins to get Gordon ready.....
New spark plugs arrived today (last ones were wrong ones). Fitted all 4... I say all 4 as number 4 bank is a right pain to get too.
Got the plug out and it didn't match any of the other 3 so obviously had never been changed. spot the odd one out!
Runs a lot better Now - engine is smooth. Don't think oil leak helped.
Painted the front arches tonight. Wasn't sure at first with white but they have come up really well.
Would welcome your opinion on a couple of things.
1. Shocks - koni or oem?
2. Exhaust - getting one made up - standard exit at the rear bumper or side exit?
Rear arches painted along with sills and underneath.
Engine looking good now
There's more to life with Renault sticker added!!
:approve:
Omp exhaust ordered - coming over from France.
Back box was rotten and had fallen off from the centre section when I checked yesterday so don't feel as bad ordering a new one now.
