    Great thread.

Picture 2 for me. Especially since it will be road-legal.

Will be interesting to know if you can find any of the original red colour when it's all stripped down

When I first got the car back in 2005, it had 44 miles on the clock. Now it's up to about 2100. I'm sure it's genuine.....

The Engine bay is covered in it alright... Oil that is! I've been out with it today & it offends my OE eyes!!

It's coming along nicely though & I'm hoping I can get everything done in-time for the 2012 Festival!!

Thinking I may have to host a PMT finishing the car weekender!?

That's not oil as such, it's rust protection

Glad to hear you're doing well with it. I still miss it, but I'm still loving the Clio. That's had a small fortune chucked at it now. I can't believe how cheap parts are for it, so I can't stop buying things

A weekender sounds like a good idea. Get a curry sorted as well - Like the good old days

Shame I won't be there to see/steal it at Blyton

Good point Westy! Time for a little update me thinks!!

So you all know that I got the car back home after picking it up from Billiam & safely tucked away in my garage. Since then I am trying to work through a number of things to get it ready for the 2012 Festival on 28th July.... (running out of time!?)

Got it in the garage & have raised it up nice & high on Axle Stands

Whipped the Bonnet & Bumper off to get access to the Engine

Have noticed that I seem to have a bit of a leak from the Oil Cooler lines... guessing this might be one of the sources of the "Rust Prevention" bill suggests!

Have taken the front calipers off and passed them onto a club member for the full refurb & refresh

Am working through the engine bay & getting rid of any parts that are not needed and recitfying any "quick fixes" previously done.

Fitted a new Master Cylinder today & gave that area of the engine bay a clean up

    Still need to:
    • Fit refurbished calipers, New Brake Fluid Front Brake Disks, New Ferodo DS2500 Pads all round
    • Source & fit new Radiator
    • Either fit new Oil Cooler Lines and Thermostatic Oil Cooler plate to existing oil cooler set-up, or just go for the quick fix for National Day of getting some OE Oil Cooler lines & fit them to the new radiator option.
    • Get the 11 Turbo Gearbox refurbished & fitted.

Without wishing to hi-jack your thread too much , just some 'normal' bits and bobs: It's had a full service, and wheel bearings all round, rear brakes, handbrake cables, throttle cable, and some more that I can't remember. That fuel inlet pipe that was cable-tied to the fuel rail has been replaced, as it split . I've also found a steering wheel that's a lot less melted . I still need to get the wheels re-furbed at some point.

What was up with that rad' that I gave you? That hasn't done many miles, so it should be tip-top. Do you know if it's just the oil line that's split? If so, you can buy it by the metre.

I thought that rad was the one you'd replaced with the copper core bad boy in there now?? If that one's ok then I'll lash that in!!! Thanks for the reminder

Not sure if it's the oil line that's split or the hose tail joint

No, the rad' I gave you came off the Ghost. It was only on there for a few k miles, and was perfectly ok . I would never replace an oe rad' for a copper one

The one that's in there now (along with the oil cooler lines) came off of Trusty.

I'm swinging back to the stickered up red one again now? As the car was originally red? I'll make my final decision after I get the new log book & hopefully see who the original owner was? Be nice to see if I can trace it back to its proper originality?

    Really? I don't remember that

It won't have been T-Cup at Hullavington though - That was only ever used on proper tracks.

    Re: T-Cup becomes the ST-Cup!

I recieved the Logbook for the Cup Car through the post today which has meant I can now try to figure out the history of T-Cup!

It just so happens that many years ago I bought a Championship Information pack from eBay from the 1990 series of the RENAULT 5 elf TURBO UK CUP... that's come in handy today!!

So, it appears I'm the SECOND official owner of T-Cup according to the DVLA, the first was a guy called Stephen Jones from Bury.

When I look at the Information Pack It tells me that the driver of car number 28 was a guy called STEVE JONES from (you've guessed it) BURY! Apparently he was born in 1963 and he's a Salesman (How fitting really as we share the same first name and job!)

On one of the pages in the pack, it tells me that the Championship Results after Round 1 at Thruxton are:
    1. James Kaye
    2. Dave Cox
    3. Steve Waudby
    4. Steve Jones
    5. Mark Fish
    6. Jim Edwards Snr
    7. Mile Mills
    8. Mickey Allen
    9. Rowland Bratt
    10. Jonathan Salem
So it appears the old girl was competitive!!!!

I'm now off to look at the DVD copy of the 1990 Series that Bill was kind enough to loan me to see if I can spot T-Cup in all her glory!!!

    My name's not Stephen Jones

I can't recall seeing that name off the top of my head. I hope it's on the dvd somewhere. Although part of me hopes it isn't

    Re: T-Cup becomes the ST-Cup!

Thanks to the loan of the 1990 Series Cup Car DVD from Billy Pallets, I've watched it very closely tonight and have taken the following pictures on my TV (that explains the questionable quality) of Cup Car number 28 which is driven by Steve Jones.

The car he drove in the 1990 Series was White which matches T-Cup . But it seems bizarre that he ordered a Red car and then painted it white?? Still anything's possible I guess??

At the beginning of the season the car looked like this with quite a subdued livery:

When I bought the car from Billy, he told me that it looked like it had a little accident in the N/S Rear; as you can see where they hammered it out....... well on the video you can see the accident happen!!! He got a punt in the rear N/S Qtr and got spun round! This certainly adds to the case for this being the same car!

As the season passed, the livery changed slightly but kept the same sponsors:

During the last race of the season, Steve Jones actually had an In-Car video fitted to his car, and there is some nice video of him driving it!!

And there's also a quick picture of the car on the starting grid at one of the races:

Turns out that Steve Jones was a bit of a wheelman, finishing in the top 5 of many of the races from the 1990 Series!!

WOW, JLS Vehicle Security are still going strong! Can't find any record of Thermafab in the UK though?

So it looks like i'll be sticking with the White paint job, but i'm tempted to paint the Interior and engine bay to match? What do you think guys??

im sure it was the pipe from the pump to the fuel filter, random piece of pipe stretched to fit but it could be anywhere in that area

It's a shame you can't see in the pics if it's red on the inside. I'd be tempted to keep it as it is (red inside, white outside). It might look a bit odd, but if that's how it originally ran, I say keep it that way

You've got to try and track down Mr Jones. The one way to find out if it's the same car is to ask him about the 44 miles on the clock

    Re: T-Cup becomes the ST-Cup!

Last weekend I finished off the overhaul of the brakes fitting newly overhauled calipers, new front disks and Ferodo DS2500 Pads all round:

I also went through the fuelling system and removed a couple of things.... first I replaced the steel fuel filler neck with a nice Plastic Campus one. I reckon this steel fuel filler neck looks like the front section of an exhaust...

The inside of it was surprisingly clean actually:

I also removed the fuel tank and washed it out.

Again I found some interesting things in the fuel tank..... a handful of grass (not that sort of grass... I think!? ) and a fuel filler nozzle?!

Yep, i'm not kidding you! That black fuel filler nozzle was floating around in the tank?? Any of the PMT Trackday crew remember losing it one day

So that leads me to, tonight:

I'm so glad that the 2012 Festival isn't for a few weeks yet........

Hopefully I should be ready, just got to fit the 11 Turbo Gearbox and freshen a few things up?!

Marmoys coupe had that metal pipe too, rusty as inside blocking the fuel filter regularly!
