C1J large crankshaft oil (lip) seal
Right, just a random one Im about to replace the main oil seal behind the flywheel on my engine. Now I had a seal that came in a pattern bottom end gasket set knocking around. It measures 80mm ID, 100mm OD, and 13mm thick. This looks and measures the same as afew old seals ive found in the garage.
However i thought id order a new lip seal from Renault aswell, its supposed to be correct for a c1j-788. Look at the pics to see what arrived. Its the same ID and OD as the pattern one but it only measures 8mm thick.
Can anyone shed any light as to which is correct, or isnt the thickness of the seal important as long as the other two dimentions are ok? Notice the o.e seal has lines around the outside?

Re: C1J large crankshaft oil (lip) seal
I'm pretty sure the engines I've done have all had the thicker orange seal. Whether or not the smaller black one is o.k. to use I can't comment but the orange one is what I used I'm sure

Yeah cheers Al, all the ones ive got here / taken apart have had the thicker orange seal. Just strange why this smaller seal would appear as correct on the Dialogys ? and weather it is ok to use ?

I've had similar issues with the V6 lump but other way round ...The black seal is thicker
Some are double lipped ,Volvo spec ,you would expect to seal better but don't
