The next step to me is to get it on the rolling road to give me a power curve printout so i book it in at the local RR facility quite literally over the road and a 3 minute drive from home. The BHP and torque curve indicate a flatspot, the next step i feel is a remap

There's also the annoying problem with a sticking throttle, i'm having to blip the pedal to drop the revs down. The speedo has also started to play up so i've ordered a new speedo sensor from Renault as well as a new throttle cable. The ICV will need taking apart again and blasting through with carb cleaner

Also sorted some boot badges to fill the holes in the tailgate to finish off the exterior. So time to save for a remap and get it booked in on a trackday to really push it, then hopefully in October i'll be heading over to the Nurburgring.
Also had a sort through all my invoices since starting the white project... and then bust out the calculator!
35 invoices from Renault, FK,GSF, Eurocarparts, K Tec, E Bay in 4 months..... Quite a few parts

christ mate you been spending quite a bit there, also re the engine id say a remap is certainly next thing to do maybe even try get a set of uprated cams and headwork ?
A remap is definitely the next step, it should smooth out the flat spot in the torque and bhp curves and maybe eek out a little more as i'm running the decat and had the inlet manifolds matched. Cost for a before and after RR run with remap shouldn't be more than £300.
It's a lot of £££ to buy and fit cams, headwork again is going down the £££ route if done by an engineering company. I bet those 2 jobs could reach 1K, it really depends how far 1 wants to go. I need to get it out on track now and push it hard in it's current form
Less than 2 weeks until the trip to Nurburgring, fingers crossed this week i'll have 2-3 minor jobs done on the Clio.
I bought these OZ F1 a couple of weeks ago and trial fitted them on the Clio to see how they looked... Didn't like them so i sold them within 24hrs of posting them on classifieds.

Much better on black wheels, today i took the Clio to the local weighbridge to see how much it weighs.
WP_000763 by Ricard o1, on Flickr
960kgs, thats 51kgs lighter than the 'lightweight' Clio Cup model and well over 100kgs lighter than the std phase 1 Clio 172. Maybe thats why i've seen this peak MPG figure poodling at 30 and 40mph

Looking sick, do you know how much the cage weighs in at?
Lovin' that mate, seriously
Perhaps I'm not 'darn wiv da yoof' these days, but I think it looks better on the silver OZ's.
Do it Mart! Get rid of the Mitsi fuel guzzler.
Get a phase one painted in red and between you, Rich and me we have a French flag going on.....
Dude, I want to - Funnily enough, it was after seeing Adey's mate with the capsicum red sprayed ph1 at ND, that really got me thinking (again ) about a Clio as a track car.
Selling the Evo would certainly open up the door of buying a Clio & helping get Whitey back (if I can twist Jimmy's arm).
Hold on, that scratched record is starting again...
Well, if you need a cheap pretty much complete shell (in silver) I have one going soon, couple of dings and scratches, but that means it is going to be Very cheap and a good enough basis to have a cracking toy.
Ricardo's brief was a 'fun, fast and usable track orientated toy, which was easy to run and fairly cheap to maintain'. Now, when you think about it, perfectly sums up what he has now, 50mpg on a daily run and a reliable/easy 200bhp/tonne.
Yeah, but didn't he already have said spec car?
Let me get the Spa/'Ring weekend out the way, and I'll see what's what then...
You mean 'old 17bluey', or his old white R5?
I cant rate these cars enough, i did my first track day in my 172 today at Donington, the car was brilliant. The only problem i had was setting my brakes on fire as i was being too heavy on them!
I met two lads who both advised they owned Evo's, but were fed up of the running and tracking costs. they turned up in a black 172 they bought the week before from an auction for £1500.00
They said it was brilliant, they didn't stop smiling and giving me the thumbs up
It's a perfect all rounder, a daily car even with the cage in. I can live with it, fully road legal which means driving to and from a track and hooning around the track in between. Just need a set of wheels for track use only
I know it will get me to the Ring as the mechanicals all came from the blue Clio 172 which i owned for over 2 years. In that 2 years bar changing the gearbox i never had any issues with it.... although it probably hates me right now sitting on the driveway like it is
Mines my daily car at the minute too. Some decent brakes and suspension and its brilliant, besides a filter, mines totally standard. looked the part today though on its track wheels and quick change mirror covers
Sorry for the slight crash.
If I don't like my new direction with cars I'll defo be heading straight bk to a Clio, oe engine, stripped with suspension and carbon Lorraine brake pads, Nuff said job done
j8tro, looks spot on
Adey, you know, you've been there.
Pound for pound you can't go wrong with a phs1 or 2, you can pick em up for a decent price now.
Personally, to get on track minimum spend all they need is:
New brake fluid
Braided hoses
Brembo HC discs and either DS2500 or Carbon Lorraine pads
Next step if you go regular would be remove rear seats, parcel shelf. Go and enjoy, i just took it a few levels up

pm clear
Just a short drive from you too Mart...
Crushed!
I has some bits off it just before it was getting collected.
Cheers Ashy
Shame to see that's been crushed Saying that, I wouldn't want to be paying that much for just for a shell, plus it's a my2001+ (ref' road tax).
The Evo needs to be gone before any of this can happen anyway...
I can't believe andy's broke that car, it was stunning.
Check!
I have Ferodo DS2500's, Brembro HC discs, Braided lines and AP Racing 500 Fluid. Suspension wise its on some cheap coilovers as 2 weeks before the track day i found one of the front shockers was leaking and it was a last minute decision, TBH there not that bad and have camber adjustment too.
On the day i removed the rear seats and parcel shelf which just made it sound better inside the car! the only failure was i've warped the discs slightly, but at only £45 delivered its not really a big issue.
Pre 2001 is a tad cheaper on the tax.
Regards shells the sad thing about modifed cars is IMO when it comes to sell it's a limited market and not a lot of people have the ready cash to fork out for the car as a whole. A shame, the car gets broken, the best parts go quick and then you're left with the shell........
This is what happened with the white shell..... All singing supercharger converted Clio, then put up for sale with no takers, then broken with the shell left in the back of a pub car park for months
Screw that, £12 disks for me, no need for hc jobbys, expensive or cheap they only last 3 k with track abuse thrown in when rocking carbon Lorraine rc6,s
£12.....mint......where from? I got the HC's from Kam Racing, they are £30 but with £15 delivery. I'm a bit pissed they have warped to be honest
Blimey! Drove Ricardos car for the first time tonight after sorting a few things on it.
I want those brakes!!!
Has given me devilish ideas now!
So as mentioned last night i had the suspension re set to raise the car as the driveshaft was bottoming out. A new Renault throttle cable was fitted and the ICV was cleaned out with brake/clutch cleaner and WD40 (which only lasted 3 minutes!) So it's still running 2.5 degrees negative camber with toe out re done to 5mm.

Hehe! A road going clio cup racer......Gotta give a little squirt eh?
Thanks for lending me the keys to the toy.
'old 1-7-blu' is now in the workshop looking very comfy.
Looking good ricky,
I may have to repaint the red 5 white... Does look good for a track based car
Good to see old bluey has gone to a new home, i miss that car, even tho i hated to drive it...
Ol blue was a brilliant Clio, i'd still probably be driving it now if it wasn't for me finding the white shell. The mods on it were just right for trackdays and taking it to work everyday. I'm glad it will be back, who knows to what spec but it will be good
