pics need my laptop working to post them lol
got msd blaster coil in the end
here are couple of dash/wiring progress pics
pic as of last nite.... nearly done now
getting there fella, is the column in the right place with the seat in?
looks great well done
As hard as you like!!! well done fella
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
stunning!! great workmanship mate.
finished! will post some pics once I've hoovered it out and cleared it out and put seats back in
a few pics from last nite, will get some better ones this afternoon when its back outside
wrong pics...
Love this car
flocked dash top arrived... just need to fit it, along with hundreds of more bits i've stockpiled
more bits to add to the ever increasing pile of 'parts to fit'
good news is i'll be moving into my new workshop start of feb so will be able to get much more done than my little unlit garage at the moment
latest update:
after helping to oli's heater matrix sunday, got the car up the workshop and got started, finally got the AEM gauge in, MSD coil and toad up and running with remote lights and headlights, and dual zone proximity sensor.
still got a massive list, but will be working on it properly now i have the time/space
got oil cooler fitted now, something a bit different....
Thatll be nice when you hole it with a big stone
Looks good, make sure you put some mesh behind it to protect from stones in the wheel arch, mine gets caked in crud and stones after a while! Have you got a stat' take off plate? I would recommend you fit one or you could run your oil too cool with the big rad!
i hardly use the car, but will mesh up behind it for some added protection. next on the shopping list is an oil temp gauge, and if its too low i'll add an inline stat
alot of hard work put in to it, least to say its all paid off stunning 5 mate !
few questions..
whats with the MSD coil???
and where did you get your carbon splitter? looks the biz..
thanks
As said many times in the past about your 5... love it
msd coil is just higher output than the OE coil
splitter is one I made, along with canards and fog ducts etc
out of interest mark, i see you hvae removed the front cross member for the intercooler, have to made a strut to go across the 2 and over the intercooler ? , just wondering as i removed my cross member but im contemplating making somthing to do the same job
this weekends progress was manifold and a few niggles sorted
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
Very very impressive, Mark! I am still trying to get my jaw off the floor!
Brilliant! I feel like inventing a new word - what about insanilicious? hmm, yep that is definately the right word...
Keep posting
finally got my oil cooler leak free tonite 60psi oil pressure when cold now, can't be bad
all fits behind the grille too which is lucky, i was worried for a minute..
engine bay almost back together, just ordering a couple of new pipes to replace some crappy ones
still got lots to do, but its getting there
grrr still leaked even wit new sanwich plate and seal, big thank u to lill bro jimmy_b for having enthusiasm to fix it finally. really do have no leaks now :-)
few more update pics
finally leak free!!
painted brakes to match calipers now
cheeky one of bro's new 182 fitting his £130 cup splitter
almost back together, and my other halves KA which drove up there tonight as a 1.3 and will drive away as a 1.8 zetec (one MY car is done ) already got the sportka bumper on to check the fit
been slightly distracted lately as i now have 3 cars on the go... the ka has its zetec heart, and i'm currently restoring the 'barn find' to its former OE glory, so poor old ginger has taken a back seat once again
finally making my gauge pod up
and a couple of shots from the weekend of oli's and the barn find in the unit
and u can see ginger hiding in the background! 4x r5's in one place! (black ph2 is behind the ka )
That unit looks fooking handy, how did you go about finding that.......
Would love to have space like that, a bit over working in a tiny garage
How's the donkey?
tonites orange car progress was flocked dashtop and gauges back in
the weekends events... sat cleaned it up, sat eve blew it up
sunday ripped it apart, liner cracked between 1 and 2
Not good matey sounds like you may have a det problem as your are running high comp so you are much closer to the threshold. What max boost do you run nowadays? and do you use the water injection to help reduce the det?
2bar is a lot of boost, to crack a liner she must have been knocking a fair bit/fuelling leaned out...classic carb bowl emptying on a long pull?? Get a steth on when u get it back together to listen for det.
was flat out for about 10sec max, probably less, afr's looked ok in the corner of my eye but its hard to check them when your concentrating on driving
here are some pics from yesterday, didn't get too many as i was hands on all day
new rings and gaskets on order, need new liner machined down by 0.75 then that can go in. also going to sort another clutch as the volvo 440 ones only seem to last a few minutes before they slip in 5th
last nights progress.... found this
so got on with this:
and a box of bits to powder coat
and my organised mess
Mark, that doesn't look good damage looks like over speeding and high boost damage to the piston to cause that maybe a weak mixture in that cylinder.
i was going to say what would cause the ringlands to go like that.. AFR's were ok as far as i know, i use an AEM UEGO, but like i said earlier its hard to concentrate on driving on a country road at the best of times
i think it may be boosting slightly higher with the tubular on, or should i say spiking higher, i didn't really check. that piston has been in there ages, and the liner since my pod 'pop' in 2008, tbh i just threw it together last time with the old rings on new liner etc. it was cyl one that went, it had been breathing heavily for a while as well, usually on high boost, to the point where its ruined my clutch by blowing oil down past the TDC sensor
I found when I used the gaytec Mk1 manifold that boost level stayed the same but the spool up was quicker 200rpm's quicker (i got rid purely as I missed the burble). Afr's may have been ok on the gauge Mark, but the readings are taken in the downpipe so once out of the engine. The inlet manifold is a bad design and cylinders 1 & 4 run leaner than 2&3.
Quick off topic question with your VNT and high comp engine what is the location of your TDC sensor? are you running fully retarded or advance?
Breathing heavy could also be part problem may have had lack of lubrication for the pistons.
my TDC sensor is really far back (towards bulkhead) if that helps?! its how mike set it up
the piston damage is from detonation, be it caused by weak fueling or too much boost and ignition timing
Alot of skylines suffer the same thing when they have been hack mapped with safc2's
Never go full retard
