Brands club trackday with Trackaction-Online Jan 28th

2010 has almost gone and we are looking at next years trackdays already, starting off with a day on the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch on Friday Jan 28th.

We ran there at the start of this year and had a great day out -









We will be running the usual setup so it’s open pitlane with limited numbers to ensure that everyone gets plenty of track time, free instruction will be available from our team of ARDS instructors and it’s a day aimed at club groups so it’s always a good friendly atmosphere on and off track.

The list price for this one is £150 but we have been able to repeat the 2010 discount for club drivers so you can come along for just £125. Passengers can be booked in for a tenner and extra drivers for £35.

Sorry, nothing else then until March at Cadwell.

The price for hiring the GP circuit is crazy but they are only allowed to run a small number of days per year on that layout so they can sell them all at pretty well any cost

big thanks to steve from track action online... for giving rtoc the heads up on the next discounted trackday. please if u can show your support for this event it will be well worth it they are very well organised and cater for all drivers weather a novice or experienced...its about time we had a good turn out and i am sure they will be some cracking pictures and videos to be had on the day.

Very tempted.... as missed out on last years due to engine problems. Got a few suspension bits to do, so could be a shakedown for the new season

Bought it about two years ago, and Im desperate to race it. Its pretty sorted, but needs a gearbox rebuild, 15 inch wheels and tyres, bigger brakes and a new steering rack
May just be crunching the gears home round brands though.

Yeah, come along! Its a very good price. Its a gamble with the weather, but Im not bothered, unless its black ice. But I imagine jonathan palmer has that covered.

Mines around 105db, apart from Silverstone when the guy said it was 110db

Nice mk1 that Sam, 020 gearbox is a piece if piss to rebuild, I'm guessing 2nd gear synchro is crunching? (we used to lap in the steel baulk rings with valve grinding paste to make them work better).
Be careful with bigger brakes, as I think TTRS req standard size brakes....?

It s a Richard Longman Engine - 1.8 8v. About 150 bhp I was told.

Good point about the brakes! Ill check. They are only 239mm standard and DS3000 are only just up to the job

Yeah, hopefully going in the Toyo tyres. Was looking at the VAG trophy (both MSVR), but not that keen anymore. Im desperate to get in a race!!!!!

....also Sam, don't forget Renault, BMW some Mazda and Vauxhall wheels can be made to fit VW, just check offset....and adapt centre bores. This opens up a few options for wheels?

Yeah, cheers matt. I have various 15inch Renault wheels around I think the Renault offset would be sensible too.

Just me and Eugein from RTOC.
The day was very well run. The best and most thorough drivers briefing I have heard.
Not a single red flag. Good photographers. Must recommend TrackAction

Eugein's car gets properly used - and is driven quickly. Thanks to him for letting me have a go and add to the 14,000 odd miles!! Its the first time I have actually driven one. The sounds of the turbo inside are amazing. Puts a smile on your face when the boost comes in, but must need particular driving style to get the most out of it on track.

The other highlight was following close to his brother for about 8-10 laps. Really good fun to chase somebody quick on a clear track.

And the list of things I need to do to the car grows longer......

Gearbox rebuild
fuel tank and guage
improve wipers
full brake system upgrade
upgrade exhaust manifold
rebuild steering rack
solid top mounts
upper and lower strut braces
improve cool air ducting to induction
reduce some weight
Sort shocking electrics!
connect heater matrix
lap timer and transponder

Was a good day but bleeding cold, didn't go above 2deg all day! Was a struggle getting heat into the slicks at times. Big up Eugein for letting me lose in his car!
