just wondering if this is the right item i need?

aparently not the correct one you want it from the b18ep. I picked up one of them its the one i offered you. looks like it would work to me but still have to make up a bracket for the tp sensor.
think the water pipes are different but you dont need to run them any way
thanks mate, i will leave it
im sure its useable. if you want to try it you can have mine for the cost of post If you leave it and get stuck
have you even taken the boost pipe off to see how big the butterfly is compared to std? it'll bolt up ok but the way the accelerator clips on is completely different. the 2ltr is the right one, looks like that but with the same accelerator aduster the same as the B18ft but a 3 pin sensor underneath which can simply left unplugged, although you will lose the accelerator pump effect when accelerating
haz is this a must do? Just someone else has mention the standard b18ft opening is mahousive comping with the gt turbo.
I have just been looking, if one popped up i was going to have it
i have its the same size as the b18ep one i have some piccys around here somewhere think i sent you them haz asking the same questions
here it is next to a b18ep one.
how much bigger is it, it does not look that much?
they are the same size i know they dont really look it the but compared to the b18ft they are huge.
sorry, i thought it was the 1.7t against the 2.0l
there is a thread here about the size difference cant seem to find it tho. Sure haz knows the butterfly sizes off the top of his head
they look the same but the one on the left is the one you want/easiest to make work. the one on the right is too complicated to be worth playing with. its not a must do phil but the engine will feel alot more responsive with just this alone and better for higher boost levels. think the std's are about 44mm, 2ltr are about 50mm. if you look in the std throttle the throat is tapered, on the bigger ones its just straight through.
Thanks, i will keep a look out for the right one then , anyone else who spots one give me a shout please.
phil
Phil,
What car is this off exactly? I'm in and out of the decent local scrappy in Derby (Looms) for my frickin Corsa at the moment. If I spot what you need I can probably help out.
Best i can help you with is its a volvo 480 n/a 2.0l, with a b18ep engine in, im not 100% what years this engine was in the 480 but have asked on the volvo forum.
Thanks phil
I have had a reply from the volvo forum and the b18ep is a n/a 1.7 up to 93, can anyone confirm this?
found this, looks like the b18ep is a 1.7

Hi Phil. Interesting.
Looking at that list the engine code (B18EP), appears on three models:
480 S and ES 1.7 N/A - 1989-1992
480 S and SE 1.8 N/A - 1994 onwards
440 1.7 - 1989-1992
VM reference (whatever that is), is the same for the first and third of those. Different for the 1.8 there.
Looks like the 440 1.7 in those years is a good bet too then, and 'possibly' the later 1.8?
Mine field trev.
Trying to find one is even harder. I have the standard for now, so no desperate hurry for one, at least if its confirmed, i then just need to fine that year and model breaking on ebay.
phil
No worries. I'll be down to the scrappies again this week and will have a look around for you anyhow. I'll let you know if I find anything that looks right and take a pic
phill if your going by what i said i may be wrong Im sure i got the throttle body of of the same lump i nicked the cam off of (b18ep) Which is a 1.7 other wise the cam wouldnt work. but haz reckons its off of a 2l and i would go with that. You will know it when you see it, has the same throttle control as the b18ft but has a bigger butterfly.
Ok, I'm confused again now
Someone else mentioned there is a 2.0l Renault throttle that will work to.
At least i have an idea what to look for, if nothing turns up i will take mine of the gt in the winter. There is a scrap yard up here with loads of throttle bodys lying on a shelf to compare with, might have to just have a rummage.
phil
i have an reno 60mm throttlebody. this weekend i can give you the number whats written one it
Have been to the scrappy this morning and hey presto. Have a look at the pics. I've no idea whether this is right or not. You'll need to let me know asap if it's something you want as the turnover down there is pretty quick.
It looks about right to me.
Ask them how much they want for it, up to £20 should be about right for it. Im happy to pay that, if its no good i will put it back on the bay.
Thanks trev, your a good man
I can whip it off and take it to the gate to find out how much Phil. If it's any more than £15 I'd be annoyed.
If they do charge £20 though, then with recorded postage at around £5, are you OK with that?
If I don't get chance tomorrow it will be Mon/Tues mate. Hopefully it wont have been shifted/crushed.
TB packaged and ready to send. They charged £15. It's pretty dirty externally but I can't see why it wouldn't clean up and work as desired and it comes with the TPS attached, which also looks to be ok.
It's not as cheap down there as it used to be
Will PM you for your address bud.
pm your way
sorry to hijack this a tiny bit, but do all the throttle bodies have water inlets as mine doesnt seem to have them
Thanks trev received the throttle body .
It looks like the right one ok.
Few questions for the guys with these on, do you blank or just leave as they are the water pipes on the left side of it?
Im also using the rear vac pipe on the standard throttle body for my ecu vac pipe, im guessing i can just go of mt inlet manifold from one of the spare blanked vac pipes instead?
phil
leave the water pipes, going off the plenum should be fine thats what im doing. you will need to make some brackets to hold the b18ft TP sensor in the right place
yep its larger has more pins for the connector, but also it sits a different way round. I used the b18ft shaft in the 2L tb and filed it to take the 2L butterfly, this was a lot of effort but did make it easier to mount up in the end and it sits how it should.
All fitted, i could not believe how much bigger the other one is.
I did what Gary said and started to take apart and swap the shafts to make mounting the sensor easier. Could not be bothered filing out the spindle to take the larger butterfly, so i set about making a bracket that would fit the new switch.
Here are a few pictures off the two side by side to give an idea of the difference in size.
I have added some pictures of my little bracket to.
well done matey glad you got it sorted half way through filing it i wished i hadnt bothered but it was too late looks smart tho
that seems to be the general thing with these cars you just need to keep on top of it
