    More how to guides...?

    Hi,

    I'm about to do my tappets one evening this week or this weekend and yes I do have a Haynes manual but was thinking wouldn’t it be nice for some more "how to"/maintenance guides on doing such a thing?

    Would it be possible to get a list generated with what how to guides people would like to see and think useful and address them?

    My list would be:
    *Adjusting Tappets
    *Fitting an external oil cooler (Mocal)

    Thanks,

    Ian

    EXT = Exhaust

    Inlet = Inlet

    Firstly i have numbered the valves 1-8 to make it easier to explain

    This is a ten minute job and you can do it comfortably by yourself but an extra pair of hands will come in useful when you come to turn the bottom pulley wheel

    1, Firstly remove the rocker cover and move any pipes or cables etc out the way so you have a clear area over the tappets

    2, Get your feeler gauges out and set to the correct size you need for your cam

    3, Get a 19mm Spanner or Socket (this is to turn your bottom pulley wheel) a pair of pliers and a 10mm spanner (i think) these last to items are for the adjustment of the nut on the tappet rail that sits on top of your push rods

    4, you can take a spark plug out or all spark plugs as this will help you turn the bottom pulley wheel

    5, Turn the bottom pulley wheel (clockwise) until you get number 1 & 2 valve "rocking" this means there will be a point that the push rods will meet 1 will be going up as the other will be going down, when you find this point just move your spanner forward and backwards a bit to confirm you can see this (this is the point another pair of hands come in useful)

    6, Once you have confirmed the "rocking" you then adjust the tappets 7 & 8 to correct clearance

    7, Repeat Step 5 on valves 7 & 8 so there "Rocking" then you set valves 1 & 2 to correct clearance

    8 Repeat Step 5 on valves 3 & 4 so there "Rocking" then you set valves 5 & 6 to correct clearance

    9 Repeat Step 5 on valves 5 & 6 so there "Rocking" then you set valves 3 & 4 to correct clearance

    And hey presto your done.....

    So in simple terms get valve 1 & 2 rocking then set valves 7 & 8....get 7 & 8 rocking then set 1 & 2....get 3 & 4 rocking then set 5 & 6...get 5 & 6 rocking then set 3 & 4

    put the rocker cover back on inspecting the rubber gasket and replacing if needed (do not over tighten the 3 nuts on the top of the Rocker cover as this can pull it out of shape and make it leak) also make sure you have the washers underneath the nuts as it can also leak from there too....

    I also after setting up the tappets turn the engine by the spanner as good few turns so i can see all valves and push rods moving freely and double checking everything is tight etc

    Hope this helps

    Rocker cover is held on my 3 nuts, dont need to change the seal, use a bit of oil on the seal to hold it in place better when trying to put it back.

    Yes, but they're conversions. The Clio 172 is not a turbocharged Renault

    Also, at a guess, I'd say that the people who are converting theirs, will know how to do a 'simple' cambelt change
