I am planning on fitting 4 point harnesses in my R5 GTT however I am one bolt hole short. I was going to use the original seatbelt mounting points up front but seeing as my 5 never had rear seatbelts fitted the only available chassis hole was where the rear seat bracket was bolted in.
If I got a pair of THESE and had them welded in next to the two existing holes would that be sufficient or could I just drill a hole and bolt with big washers each side (doubtful)
That would do the job nicely, although surprised the rear seat-belt mounting holes aren't there, even if not fitted as standard (they're there on mine and thats a really early cup shell, would be really suprised if the same basic shell wasn't used across the range) might be worth having a look at another 5 with them in, may just have been filled in with filler or something, nothing that 5mins work with a drill\scraper and tap would sort out and a lot easier then welding near the fuel tank.

The car was 1st registered in '86, I did have a good look but the only obvious holes are where the brackets were buy i'll take a closer look.
If it does come to welding i'll drop the fuel tank down I think.
its not a good idea to mount the back of the harnesses on the floor behind you. you want to get a harness bar fitted and loop them on that.
harness bar? that similar to a boot brace?

I wasn't going to mount directly behind the seats so the straps pull down it was going to be where the rear seat mount points were which in that pic seem acceptable D+E ?
i fitted a bar directly behind my seats across my cage and the belts loop over that, ignore all the slack belt and it had just been fitted.
i suppose you could mount to the rear fixing but its a long way for the belt to run incase of any stretch in a accident. i suppose its a case of how safe do you feel with it?

what about using a rivnut tool or is that not up to safety/mot standards
I see what you mean Mark if there was a shunt on the rear the belts would go slack etc hhmm

I circled the only fixing hole of the right which was for the rear seat brackets, the circle on the left was where I was thinking of welding one of those mounting plates but i'll maybe have to reconsider then
Why not connect both straps to the same hole? It will be plenty strong enough. When I had 3 point harnesses I mounted mine there but they only have 1 strap instead of 2, not that it makes any differance.
I wasn't sure if it would cause only problems putting both straps to the same point
i have 4 points and have both straps of either seat going to one hole so 2 holes in total and that has been fine
Ah cool cheers for input guys, i'll start of trying that then and can always upgrade to harness bar later.
