    16's on a 5

Does any one run 16's on their 5? If so what tyres can you get away with?

would they go on with 195/45's ?

depends on your drop, 195/45 are abit tight. my last 5 had 195/45's and the rear end was dropped and didnt catch at all. fronts would catch slightly on full lock but obviously that also depends on you wheel offset.

i use 195/40's 50mm drop up front but havent dropped the rear yet.

I ran 23.3" tall front tyres on mine, it was a lot of cutting though. It was pretty low, and the tyres rubbed on the bottom of the inner arch - you can hear it on some of my videos

    195/45/16 are 22.9"
    195/45/15 are 21.9"
    195/40/16 are 22.1"

I'm sure you can work it out

actually the 16's are on in the pic in my avatar <<<

Jaffa does mate, uses 40 profiles i think. Ive been thinking of going 16's for practicality but still want it to look 'lower' than standard. Been after a 'cheap' set of reno 16's for a while. Not sure what the offset is though.

I have used a 585mm diameter tyre which is about 23". They also scrub on lock to the inner arch, and the MoT tester was not happy. You can always fit rack stops (shims on the end of the rack inside the gaiter) to stop this though. Out of interest my R888 (195 50 15) were bottoming out on the rear arches on track (bottom of paddock hill last) and hitting the top of the inner arch. You might want to do the Doris mod to stop this also.

    Re: 16's on a 5

    good info, thanks guys!!

They are a 37mm offset, so if i go off this old thread HERE would that mean i'd need 2 mm spacers to bring them back inline?

If i jack the car back up and run 45 rubber on the 16's hopefully the million speed bumps round here will leave my exhaust alone!

    Re: 16's on a 5

question, most new rims are 7" wide 16 or 17" i seem to rember my 16s on my 5 were a 7.5" wide. I ran a 205 40 16, they caught front and back.

I fancy some oldskool rims like momo arrows or azev as, are the 7" or 7.5"?

I remember taking 2 lasses out with my kid, we all bundled in the 5 and it was jamed tight , it did look the nuts though.

Thanks for all your help guys, went to see the wheels last night and I think I'll be giving them a miss, the tyres aren't the best and the rims are in need of a re-furb... It'd probably be cheaper to buy new!! Plus the offset was E38.5
