Mk1 Clio
Ok, so if i was buying a 5 I would know what to look for. However I have just purchased a mk1 clio and im wondering if there are any problem areas to look at.
On a 5 i would check boot floor and boot sidewalls. Is this a good place to check on a clio?
Yes Yes I have bought a car without seeing it. Its a none runner and hasnt cost me the earth so its not a worry.

Re: Mk1 Clio
yeah, rear arches and sills are the main areas, structually they can also go on the floor too though this is harder to spot.
Other areas that are easier to fix are the boot, under the doors, the inner front arches and the slam panel...

Re: Mk1 Clio
Check for ....
rust on sills
holes in the floors
inside the arch area's of the engine bays rust aswell
rear arche's (ones on yours should be fine as dave got them replaced previously).
Rusty boot lids.
Boot floor also.
And the usual places for rust ...like round the window rubbers and scuttle panel.
Hope this helps

Re: Mk1 Clio
Is it a 16v Clio?
Sloppy steering wheel (lots of play before steering wheel makes the wheels move) usually means the rubber has gone in the joint between the column and the rack.
Manual opening roofs are leak prone.
You say its a non-runner......flat battery or something else?
