This question was asked a couple of days ago, do a quick search, iirc it was liquid metal.
TBH i would be more interested as to find out why is it leaking? What kind of leak is it? Could be the petrol tank breather's are blocked...
Chris why would it leak if the breathers are blocked????
When air/vapour gets trapped due to breathers being blocked the tank becomes pressurised, causing leaks.
IIRC, I plastic welded the bung on mine and now it's good as gold.
Yeah, it seems to be a common problem.
I remember dropping the tank on the driver side just enough so I could get some access to the leaking spot. Was a bit of a work up, but then again... it always is.
thanks chaps, when I take cap off to put fuel in it doesn't blow air out so hopefully can rule out breathers
Wouldn't hurt to check over the fuel lines while you're under there.
already had a quick look last night when I changed the engine coolant. 99% sure it's the yellow bung thingy
i used a bronze metal looking plumbers putty from b&q for about £6......... sealed it with no more probs jim.
cheers Steve, that's exactly the answer I needed!!
i didnt even drop the tank..... was abit of a b****** mind. just jacked her up, got a big flat head screw driver and just kept pressin piece in at a time untill i used the lot. sorted. dry as a bone.
`Jesse, talk to me, this aint working,
`its your petrol tank, its got a nasty hole,
`bloody renault 5s,
`Shall i try that stixall sh1t in the yellow bung,
`yeah that is good sh1t, it calms me down
hahaha
pure ****in genius!!!
i need to sort mine out
whats the name of the sealant you chaps have used ?
Sikaflex 221. Black goo - use gloves
Go to your local builders merchants and ask for a cartridge of stixall extreme, its petrol resistant and supposed to stick anything to anything even under water.
costs 4 squid
Thanks gents
