    what cooler???

ok peolpe, ive got a standard position pace single core alloy intercooler running at the moment an a pace charge cooler kit up in me garage.. gonna be running approx 18-22 psi off a t25.. so the question is what to use, people say that the alloy intercooler will be fine an others say that the charge coolers aint that good, so which should i run? i think the charge cooler due to it being 3 times the cost ud think it would be better? want as much advice as possible please cheers

I used to have one of those Pace single core intercoolers years ago and it was pretty good at 20psi

both together i thoughtmight create a little more lag.. wanting to go one or the other really.. cheers, also heard that the single cores aint that efficient after about 18 psi ???

    Pace

Imho, you'd be better off flogging both of them, and sniffing out something more efficient.

    Re: what cooler???

There is no 'best' I'm afraid.

From 'testing' various 'coolers over the years, my humble opinion & selection would be...

o.e position: GT Tuning's double capacity intercooler.

Front mount position: Cut n' shut an o.e Mitsy Evo intercooler, or Escort Cosworth inter/chargecooler.

Chargecooler on its own: The PWR core/setup.

It mainly depends on your power goal, and what turbo you have in situ. As boost goes up so do charge temp's, and hence ideal intercooler placement then comes into question, unless of course you've got a suitable sized blower in situ that isn't struggling to produce the desired boost, but then you're adding spool lag/higher rpm peak boost to the equation.

    Swings & roundabouts.

    Re: what cooler???

ok so me turbo should manage a good 25-26 psi without sending the intake temps through the roof.. not that kean on the d c intercooler.. so poss a front mount setup could be more efficient u think then? wot- Chargecooler on its own: The PWR core/setup????? didnt understand

    Re: what cooler???

    What turbo is it? (don't say a T25 )

At that level of boost you're gonna need some work on the carb fuelling for sure (and I don't mean tuner off-the-shelf 'Group A' cr8p).

FMIC will always be more efficient than an o.e position intercooler, but of course, that also depends on what intercooler you've got sitting at the front.

PWR is a company who produce chargercoolers, intercoolers, radiators, etc. DaveAVT on here is one of the UK agents/distributors for them. If you Google them, you'll be able to have a read up on what their gear is like, and decide for yourself.

ok so its one of bb tunnings turbos an yes a form of a t25 lol , ok at the mo im running 16 psi on standard air corrector but larger main with i think some work to the 1st stage enrichment?? an standard venturi.. but obviously will be playing with fueling an monitoring on the wideband.. with the frontmount thats goin to add a little lag compared with pace cc.. do u not think pace cc would be at all efficient enough? cheers

I'm with Mart, flog the lot! I've had lots of problems with Pace (on a radiator, but hey ) Sunday I fitted a Frontera TDI intercooler to mine. It sits on the front crossmember and just squeezes in under the slam panel. Basically fills the entire gap between the headlights and goes behind the grill (just!). You need to bend the 2 triangular metal bits that the grill clips into outta the way too.

The pipe run round the alternator/oil filter is kinda tight, but its ok. Takes a bit of messing about, but not too bad.

Only gone round the block so far (need an MOT!), but first impressions are good. I ran a nicely modded standard cooler with a fan, so in reality prolly not much different to your pace.

I get another 4psi @ carb top and the same actuator setting = 24psi where I was 20psi before. Seems a real good and cheap alternative. The core's thin enough not to impact too much on the cooling of the rad. Suprised that I get a bit more lag tho!

Gimme a week and I'll tell you more

Can you recall the model number of it? I can't think of that many variations of a T25 blower that'll be happy & efficient at 26psi...

Your carb is defo gonna need some work. Save that for another thread

As you increase the boost circuit volume, then yep, lag will naturally increase, but it shouldn't be that noticeable, if at all.

Again, it depends on application, so an fmic isn't necessarily gonna be better to have in situ than a chargecooler. For example, on the 1/4 mile strip, I'd personally have a chargecooler - Shorter boost cct/more responsive, plus you can chill the water to slush puppy esque style to improve charge temp' reduction efficiency. The best intercooler in the world will probably only be circa 80-85% efficient. With a charge-cooler, it's possible to get 100% efficiency, if not a bit more, but then the downside & your next problem is keeping the water (that) cool.

Regardless of which type 'cooler you go for, I personally wouldn't be running Pace's core(s) on my car...

Are you going to hook up an act gauge & see how it fairs? ive been meaning to do it for a while on my frontera i/c setup, been on the back burner due to lack of cash though.

not sure of part number.. car is mainly gonna be road use so no real major major hammering like track, gonna be on off power alot so less lag more response the better, so charge cooler good but just not pace cc..??

I'd check before thinking of running 26psi.

If it's fast road, and if you aren't gonna run as much boost, as much as it pains me to say it, but I personally reckon you'd be better off with GTT's breadbin intercooler.

Don't knock it, it's a v good intercooler at mediocre boost levels.

As for increasing the displacement, unless you've got 4 figure moolah to throw at a crank, forget it.

watch out with advertised weights, they often don't include the covers and padding, which is why corbeau got back their 6Kg seat that weighed 9Kg out of the bag (that's plus brackets)

it's an old Corbeau prosport (like prorace, but a bit wider) I bought years ago, I'm thinking about replacing it. I'd like something light, that fits better, and that I'd be happy to crash in.
