Re: JRP JERPA JERPA back in the game

At the request of several people, here follows an update.

To those of you that are actualy botherd, and for those of vain interest and following this cars progress, MOT time is around the corner.

The car is now as it stands (due to hard work by the following James5, Dave..H, philr5t, Fido's got a raidar) Mot ready more or less... some more gear box oil and its ready..

All the tiny small bits have been getting done over the past few weeks to which i owe thanks to the above mentioned for helping.

Once Mot'd (sat 17th 9am) and assuming it passes the tracking set up, it will be road tested fully, then sat until monday 19th when it goes to the body shop for the few finnishing touches... this is assuming it passes mot.

What with some rather testing times over the past year, back opperations and the like.... silly drug things blah blah, i just wanna say thanks to all involved in helping; wether it by giving of parts, advice etc etc and for those close keeping me on the straight and narrow... even to the extent they talked about building an engine for my wheel chair.

If it was not for certain people on here my car would still be the 300 quid wreck it was on day dot.. not the multiples or k it now stands at.

    cheers chaps.

The only things that can go wrong at MOT is the wheel bearings and co2. They should do the head light alignment for you.

Re: JRP JERPA JERPA back in the game

    A few pictures.

Had a few issues. Main one being the alternator is KAPUT, car would start then run up road, idle then die.... then not turn over just click.... leave it 10 mins its just about starts.

Put volt meter across alt running and got 11.26 v and same across battery, our guess alternator....

any way once thats done, all shall be ok...

only other issue was heater matrix pipe blew off and slight missing at about 3k revs,

    blah blah, blah blah

re: the alt / battery prob. be sure to check and re check all earths are good

I had an rac guy tell me 130miles from home, that my battery and alt are kaput. only to get relayed home and find my earth had came loose slowly over a couple of weeks untill the bolt feel out and was no longer attached to anything

fixed that and still have the same battery and alt that the guy tested and said was at fault.

missfire ? or just bogging down ?

Handbrake light system on the 5 is pretty simple there is a switch on the hand brake that sends a signal when the handbrake is placed in the down position to the dash to turn off the dash light, I am assuming either the cable wasn't put back on for the handbrake off switch or the switch is broken (the cable is lilac/ purple in colour with a spade connection on it) or it got knocked off when the carpet was put back in.

With ref to the alternator - Check the earths are actually to bare metal and not on paint so maybe a case of removing a couple to check and sanding down then putting the cable back with bolt and going voer the top of them with some of your por15 to give it some protection. Maybe worth putting an extra earth in place you can never have to many earths but they need to go to bare metal and from a bare metal part of the engine could just be due to the car being painted that nothing is going to a bare metal part of the car.

3k missfire could be a few things, spark plug gap incorrect, knackered dizzy + Rota arm, HT leads, Main HT leads, AEI, Fueling related, Timing (Dizzy gear), TDC.

With ref to the heater matrix pipe just get it on an tighthen it up

But top work guys I take it you done the gearbox fluid now? Shame I couldn't be with you all yesterday

    FAIL

    001. near side front (no beam image) needs adjusting (HOW?)

    002. offside front drives seat insecure (after a total tug)

    003. off side rear fuel system leaking (WILL NEVER FILL UP AGAIN)

    004. exhaust emmissions too high(DONE)

    005. engine idle speed to high (DONE)

    006. offside front tie rod nut loose. steering locking device insecure (DONE)

    007. offside lower ball joint nut/bolt loose locking device ineffective (DONE)

    008. offside rear inner wheel arch not welded to outer sill...(tiny gap)

    009. nearside front inner sill one little hole

    010. near side outer sill not welded to inner suspension comp (tiny amount)

Thing is i didnt bother with inner seals as they all appeared fine!...

    I HAVE THE FECKING NEEDLE

although the things wrong are very small in comparison to things that potential could be wrong.

Big thanks to all in volved to this point, your hard work has shown, and these silly fails are my piss poor fault.

At least we have a list Easy fix matey alot of that unfortunatly I can't weld (yet I plan on doing a course thus year) but I can sure sort out the rest of it and the emissions but I am sure we can get it to run leaner just need an emissions tester kit or a wideband to make sure fueling is find. Did they say were the leak of fuel was actually coming from at the rear?

Ok, i have done a fw of the bits, track rod, ball joint, emissions, idle speed.

Well i think ive done teh emmisions assuming the gas o tester is accurate.

Need to get a small thing for the drivers seat front screw, as the tiny block has gone missing. (not the big black things for the rear bolts on drivers seat)

Just burnt feck out my hand, saw heater matrix hose popping off again (after tightning) and as i poped hand down to nick it up it popped off! CNUT!

    anyway im getting there

With ref to the fuel tank leak I remember markeyb saying he got some kind of putty that he used on his fuel tank to stop leaks and it worked fine. Not to sure that Halfords will do this but a local motor factor may.

Could be a case of getting it online and getting it delivered and when you pic your 5 up putting it on then

    Drive to body shop...

    1. A new oil leak has sprung, and its a real leak not a drip. (possible the oil pressure sender thingy)

    2. gearbox oil leak still... where the feck is it comming from.

    3. need tank repair putty stuff!!! i belive the bung is to blame for my leak, lost alot of fuel on the road.

Apart from that it drives real nice, just needs some tracking doing.

Looks like when i get it back (errrrrrhhh) i'll remove all hoses from teh bay and find the leaks
