    moving air filter

ive moved my header tank to the scuttle area, and ive also just got a front mount.

so was woundering where people think the best place to put my air filter would be? in the o.e intercooler place? or behind the headlight? and what pipes people use to get it up front in the o.e intercooler position? also could do with knowing what size silicone goes over the turbo inlet thinking its 51mm?

might be thinking of a new filter aswell does anybody recommend any to use?

    thanks alot.

Anything should do, just get a 90 degree bend. Location won't make much difference as air flow into the bay will still be the same and the suction of the turbo won't change either.

assuming you've still got the telephone hose, cut it in the middle and rotate on bend by 180degrees, and join with a bit of pipe so it looks like an 'S'
Should put the filter roughly where the OE intercooler sat

kool, cheers lads. might just go for a 90 degree bend then. ive got the telephone hose already cut in half but id still have to buy some tube to join them so might aswell buy a nice new pipe as the telephone hose looks tatty.

You might suffer with heatsoak from the radiator plonking the filter where the o.e intercooler locates, but it shouldn't be an issue when on the move.

I'd personally say cold air-fed & boxed/sealed in behind the headlight.

No, not on the compressor inlet.

Do you want me to tell you the diameter of the hose you need?

GTTNUTTER are you using the air box bracket to hold the head tank in that position or not? As thats what i want to do with mine but thought i might have to move the header tank bracket to mount it there.

I'd be interested to know the size also please........as i have been looking at some "universal" fitment K+N and Green filters but not sure what size to get...i thought it was either 51mm or 61mm.

Its 61 or 62mm (might get shot down on that )
I've done the same as Rich and put it on a 90 from the turbo.
But the ideal job is as Mart suggests, boxed in behind the light with a cold air feed

    Re: moving air filter

instead of starting a new thread.. i have just had to replace a boost hose with an alloy one as is was rubbing on bodywork.

and i used the joiner i took out to join the telephone hose and locate the air filter where the old intercooler sat. just a tempory fitment,

the joiner is for 51mm hoses. but for now i clapmed the telephone hose with it and the bore of that is alot bigger.

is this going to cause harm to the turbo at all? need to get some proper hose to fit the filter behind the headlight. wasnt sure the size of the bore or i would have ordered some the same time as my alloy pipe.

    any help appreciated ta

    Re: moving air filter

will get some pipe ordered for it then. also could anyone confirm if its ok to run it for a little while with the 51mm joiner in place? as im thinking it might damage something as its like haveing a restriction in the pipe.
