    Fuel pump issue?

Ever since I've owned my GTT, I've always felt the fuel pump was a little noisy. A strange whirring electrical noise from the rear that most people complained about when they cadged a lift.

Tonight on the way home I noticed that the noise was now more mechanical, and was now pulsating - a sinusoidal type pitch if you like.

This was then followed by a distinctive lack of power and cutting out - symptomatic of fuel starvation. It got progressively worse until I finally had to be towed home.

Does this sound like a faulty fuel pump?

I'm aware of other components that could possibly play a part - main pump relay, auxilary pump, aux relay, fuel pressure regulator, carb float...

    Re: Fuel pump issue?

If you need a decent upgrade use the mk1 golf gti pump from gsf more than up to your needs and not noisy (h and good price ans straight swap).

How you mount the pump makes a difference, can get a fair bit of vibration if not done correct. I need to get some bushes lol

Try running a bosch 044 pump then come back and moan lol

    Re: Fuel pump issue?

so... in amongst all those comments I guess you guys are trying to confirm that it is indeed the fuel pump that needs replacing?

Are there any ways of confirming/testing this?

Do a bench test, take the fuel pipe of and messure the flow rate then go from there.

I've got a spare pump that you can have for £25 + postage if it's any use to you - nothing wrong with it I just need a diffrent one for my 172 engine
