    std intercooler

I have the std intercooler,on my 11, cleaned it out & checked the operation of the the thermostatically controled flap,as recommended by haynes, had to dunc it in hot water before it opened, went on a 100mile trip the other day ,on arrival the intake pipes to ,and from ,the i/cooler,were warm but the i/cooler felt cold.Bit confused as to what this flap is for? and does this mean that the intercooler is only functioning in the hot weather? all seems a bit odd

    Re: std intercooler

Flap on the IC opens after certain intake temperature is reached. I think it is slightly over 40 celsius. The flap is placed with goal to help car reach working temperature faster and to avoid overcooling which is not so common case. It is not directly influenced by atmosphere temperatures but it is logical the higher air temp, higher intake temp.
